Chapter 54: The Destroyed Shelter, Animals Gaining Talents!
Su Ning took a deep breath. Though the seven-day dungeon life felt like an eternity, as she felt the shift in the surrounding environment, she couldn’t help but sigh with relief, “Finally, I’ve left that terrifying world filled with zombies.”
Now back in reality, she felt the scorching heat, but it was still far better than living among zombies.
Su Ning quickly took out the temperature-controlled flower from her storage space and placed it in her room, then began cleaning herself up.
In the “Corpse Hell” dungeon, she had no choice but to live among real corpses and constantly deal with zombies—either busy killing them or scavenging their bodies.
The stench on her body was nearly unbearable.
Heart aching, Su Ning took a basin of clean water and a pile of wet wipes from her scavenger backpack and carefully wiped herself down.
“Water is way too scarce. I wonder if I’ll be able to collect more in the next dungeon.”
Even if not drinkable, just having enough to wash with would be fine.
After some effort, Su Ning finally managed to clean herself.
Just as she was about to check her loot from the last dungeon, there came a sudden urgent knock on the dorm room door.
Su Ning opened it, confused about who might be looking for her.
Standing outside was Jiang Nana, her face full of panic.
Seeing Su Ning, Jiang Nana let out a sigh of relief, “Thank goodness you’re back too. That last dungeon was terrifying—all zombies. I was scared to death.”
Su Ning looked at the girl rambling nervously and raised an eyebrow, “What’s the matter?”
Jiang Nana slapped her own forehead in frustration, “I can’t believe I almost forgot the main thing! Something serious happened!”
Su Ning’s heart tightened, “What happened?”
Then, from Jiang Nana’s mouth, Su Ning heard some shocking news:
The Ninth Shelter had been destroyed!
Even more unbelievable—it wasn’t destroyed by humans, but by a huge swarm of terrifying rats.
Su Ning’s eyes widened, “Rats? Are you kidding me?”
Jiang Nana trembled all over and curled up slightly, her voice shaking, “It was a group of mutated rats…”
She was clearly terrified and unsettled by the news herself.
Su Ning frowned and pressed for more details. She learned that the higher-ups had confirmed:
Humans aren’t the only beings capable of entering the dungeon worlds. Animals can enter too.
This information deeply shocked Su Ning.
If animals could also enter dungeons, that meant they could gain talents from the dungeons too.
Thinking of this, a chill ran down Su Ning’s spine.
The outside world was already plagued by natural disasters, and now these unknown, talent-wielding animals posed an even bigger threat.
The one responsible for destroying the Ninth Shelter was a Rat King that had obtained a powerful ability. Leading a horde of mutated rats, it had annihilated the entire shelter.
Not only that—it had built its own nest on the ruins.
“Did you hear all this from your father?”
Jiang Nana nodded, “Yes, he told me.”
“Did he say anything else?”
Jiang Nana continued, “Yes. What’s more important is what’s coming next: the remaining shelters are organizing a joint expedition to attack the Rat King at the Ninth Shelter. Our Sixth Shelter will also send a team.”
Su Ning nodded in understanding, “That’s good. They can save more people that way.”
But Jiang Nana frowned in worry, “Here’s the problem—we staff members might be selected.”
Su Ning didn’t quite understand.
Jiang Nana explained, “Due to the urgency, the shelter will pick whoever’s most suitable for the task.”
A bad feeling rose in Su Ning’s chest.
Could she be on that list?
She cautiously asked, “So…?”
Jiang Nana looked at her helplessly, “You and I are both on the list.”
Su Ning was speechless.
What are the odds? She sighed in frustration.
Jiang Nana added seriously, “Your talent and mine are both really useful, that’s why we were picked.”
“Oh?” Su Ning was surprised—she still didn’t know what Jiang Nana’s talent was.
Maybe it was because Jiang Nana had always come across as a spoiled young lady, Su Ning had never imagined her being serious.
But now, hearing her talk like this, Su Ning couldn’t help but look at her with curiosity.
[Player: Jiang Nana]
Talent: Weight Imbalance – Can alter the physical weight of objects, either increasing or decreasing it.
Skills: None
Su Ning was slightly stunned. She hadn’t expected such a practical ability.
Jiang Nana explained aloud, “My ability is to change the weight of objects.” She even looked a bit disgusted saying it.
Su Ning didn’t know what to say.
She sighed inwardly, feeling that such a useful power was completely wasted on someone like Jiang Nana.
If she had it herself, she’d definitely make the most of it.
But alas—it wasn’t hers.
“I’m telling you all this so you can get ready. We’ll be leaving soon,” Jiang Nana said helplessly.
“That fast?”
“Yes. It’s urgent.”
Watching Jiang Nana walk away, Su Ning couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with thoughts.
She had never imagined animals could enter the dungeon worlds. It was incredibly surprising.
But thinking carefully, maybe it was fair.
After all, Earth needed saving—not just for humans, but for all lifeforms.
The arrival of the survival game was meant to save all beings, not just mankind.
Suddenly, Su Ning remembered the Beast Taming skill she’d just obtained and felt a spark of excitement.
Could she possibly tame animals with talents?
Could they become part of her own power?
Su Ning’s thoughts swirled, and a hint of anticipation appeared on her face.
She could already imagine herself as a top-tier tamer—after all, she already had a few examples under her belt.
The corners of Su Ning’s lips curled up, eyes glinting with light, her mind recalling those fun games she used to play.
She knew the journey to the Ninth Shelter would be full of hardship and danger.
So, Su Ning had to prepare well in advance.
Taking a deep breath, she began sorting her gains from the “Corpse Hell” dungeon.
First, the Planting Space—a valuable item, though she hadn’t had the time to inspect it yet.
Then, the five zombies with special talents. With the right setup, they would be her ultimate life-saving cards.
Su Ning was fully aware of their value—unless absolutely necessary, she wouldn’t use them easily, to avoid unnecessary danger and trouble.
Bosses, if there are any mistakes, please feel free to point them out.
