Doomsday: Scavenging in a Survival Game – CH14

Meaty Chickens, Terrifying Feed

Chapter 14: Meaty Chickens, Terrifying Feed

Su Ning didn’t care about other people’s lives; her only concern was completing her own tasks.

If even picking fruit was this dangerous, then surely her own tasks wouldn’t be simple either.

“My two tasks are: protect the flowers in the garden from insect attacks and feed the Meaty Chickens.”

Su Ning made her way toward her farm.

The farm was divided into two areas: a garden and a livestock pen. Every flower in the garden was about as tall as she was, and she noticed over a dozen Giant Flowers blooming among them.

“What kind of insects could possibly threaten those?” Su Ning couldn’t help but wonder.

Even plants like the Giant Flower were so dangerous she didn’t dare get close. She suspected that the “insects” in this game weren’t the same as what she remembered from the real world.

She needed to arm herself for self-defense.

There were throwing knives prepared in her inventory.

But while inside the farm, she also found a room filled with various tools.

Upon entering, she saw all kinds of farming tools she’d need for work, and to her surprise, quite a few weapons too.

“Is that a bow?”

What delighted Su Ning the most was a dark-colored bow hidden among the tools.

[Blackrock Bow]: A bow made from special materials, with long range and high damage. A highly practical weapon.

After scanning it with her Scavenger’s Eye, she confirmed that this bow was no ordinary item.

Su Ning tested it out. With her skill Perfect Aim, the bow’s power increased significantly, instantly making her a sharpshooting archer.

“Now I’ll know how to fend off those insects.”

She stashed the arrows into her scavenger’s backpack for quick access.

“Once I finish these tasks, I can explore this survival dungeon. Who knows what kinds of treasures I’ll find with my scavenger’s bag.”

But all of that would have to wait—she had to complete the system-assigned tasks first.

At the moment, the garden was peaceful. Beautiful flowers bloomed under the breeze, releasing a fragrant aroma. The scene was serene.

Then, the crowing of chickens broke her thoughts.

Su Ning turned her gaze to the Meaty Chickens on the other side of the farm.

[Meaty Chicken]: Tender meat, delicious flavor, rich in nutrients, excellent for health. Suitable for a variety of cooking methods.

Looking at their plump bodies, Su Ning finally understood why they were called Meaty Chickens.

She almost started drooling.

“Fried chicken, chicken drumsticks, wings, cola chicken, spicy chicken pot, chicken and mushrooms…”

Mouthwatering chicken dishes floated through her mind.

Meaty Chicken: I suddenly feel a chill down my spine…

Su Ning sighed, “I wonder when I’ll get to eat one of you.”

She got ready to feed the Meaty Chickens.

But upon arriving at the feed storage area, she discovered that their feed was anything but ordinary.

Staring at the twisted black creatures wriggling inside the boxes, Su Ning’s vision nearly went dark.

The constantly squirming worms gave her a full-body shiver.

“This… this is their feed?”

She activated her Scavenger’s Eye.

[Death Worm]: A deadly parasite. Each one can grow 10–50 cm. It loves fresh raw meat and prefers to burrow into living hosts to parasitize them. However, it has extremely high protein content, making it an ideal feed for certain growth-type creatures such as: Meaty Chickens, White Ducks, Giant Geese, and Goo Pigeons.

Faced with dozens of boxes filled with Death Worms, Su Ning nearly fainted.

She immediately retreated and pulled out a raincoat and mask from her backpack. Only after fully gearing up did she dare approach the boxes.

“Of course this feeding task couldn’t be simple!”

Without the Scavenger’s Eye, she might’ve just assumed the worms were gross, but after reading their profile, she knew they were highly dangerous. Getting parasitized while lifting the feed boxes? Just imagining it gave her goosebumps.

“There’s always a trap behind every task!”

Su Ning could already imagine the fate of clueless players.

“So this is what an official survival instance looks like… horrifying.”

With full gear on, she cautiously carried the Death Worm boxes to the Meaty Chicken coop.

Sensing food nearby, the chickens grew visibly excited.

Su Ning set down the boxes and took out her All-Purpose Shovel from her inventory, using it to fling the worms toward the chickens.

As soon as they saw the worms, the Meaty Chickens began gobbling them up.

She fed them one box after another—ten in total.

Once the last box was emptied, her feeding task was complete.

Su Ning let out a long breath. But just as she was preparing to head over to check the garden, she noticed something strange with the chickens.

The freshly-fed Meaty Chickens had lined up in a corner, squatting and trembling as if… laying eggs?

Sure enough, the next moment, one by one, ostrich-egg-sized white eggs popped out from under them.

“Eggs?”

Su Ning was surprised.

[Meaty Chicken Egg]: Laid by Meaty Chickens. Unlike their delicious meat, the egg’s taste is rather plain—but with the right recipe, the flavor can be elevated to the next level!

She was excited. She rushed to collect the eggs. The chickens were very docile despite being larger than her, and she realized that the real danger wasn’t the chickens themselves—but their feed.

Su Ning boxed up the eggs. She wasn’t sure if hiding them would trigger a warning from the Moke tribe.

So she set most of them aside, but still secretly stuffed a few into her backpack.

She looked like a little hamster hoarding snacks.

Just then, a buzzing sound echoed from the horizon.

Su Ning immediately looked up—and saw several dark shadows flying toward her.

The direction: the garden.

“Oh no!”

She dropped the eggs and grabbed her bow, sprinting toward the garden.

When she saw the “insects” that posed a threat to the flowers, even Su Ning was shocked.

[Moke Giant Bee]: Loves fresh flowers. A diligent worker bee and the perfect laborer for the Queen Bee. However, for you, it’s deadly. Because of its long-term honey gathering, it often attracts even more dangerous pests.

There were five of them, each the size of a basketball.

“The danger isn’t just the bees—they attract more insects!”

Su Ning had no desire to meet more of those creepy bugs. The Death Worms alone were already a nightmare.

Without hesitation, she drew her bow and began firing.

With her Perfect Aim skill, each arrow whistled through the air and hit its target. Within seconds, all five Giant Bees were dead.

Their bodies were immediately devoured by the Giant Flowers in the garden.

The sound of chewing echoed from their mouths.

Su Ning finally exhaled in relief.

“As a rookie breeder, it seems like you’ve done a fine job!”

Suddenly, a rough voice startled her.

She turned to see a Moke tribesman standing behind her. He was three meters tall and radiated pressure.

He was holding a clipboard and writing rapidly.

Clearly, he was a supervisor.

“Breeder Su Ning, your tasks for today are complete.”

As he turned to leave, Su Ning quickly pointed to the Meaty Chicken eggs she had collected.

“What should I do with these eggs?”
