Chapter 193: Taking It Seriously
This Saturday morning, the students of Class Three all woke up earlier than usual. No one even needed an alarm—thinking about Wei Xiao’s ill-intentioned invitation, they were already reaching for their phones before fully opening their eyes.
Song Yi: [How’s the situation over there with Wei Xiao right now]
Xie Xiangxue: [Song Yi, what are you even typing?]
Yao Shali: [I think he used the 26-key pinyin keyboard and blind-typed “Wei Xiao, what’s going on over there now.”]
Xu Xinghe: [That input accuracy is actually not bad?]
Ai Ning: [Bro… if you’re this out of it, just go back to sleep.]
Ming Xiaolan: [It’s almost 8. Ji Tianxiao, are you in position yet? @Ji Tianxiao]
Ji Tianxiao: [Selfie.jpg]
Zhan Chuchen: [You actually look pretty handsome.]
Ji Tianxiao: [Hehe, as expected of Yunjin Tower—even the spare uniform fits this well.]
Ji Tianxiao: [I’m going to follow the floor manager and learn the ropes first. Chat later if I have time.]
He went off to work, while the others were still idle. So by the time Gu Qinghuan woke up, the group chat had already exploded to 99+ messages.
Gu Qinghuan: [You guys are up so early…]
Yu Xin: [Qinghuan, you should take this more seriously! You’re the one facing Wei Xiao head-on!]
Gu Qinghuan scratched her head. If she remembered correctly, she was going to eat a meal, not fight a battle… right?
But since Yu Xin said so, she obediently replied:
[I am taking it seriously. I even washed my hair last night.]
Class Three: …Well, you can’t say she’s not taking it seriously.
Jiang Chuchu, busy checking today’s guest list at Yunjin Tower, glanced at the chat and saw that message. She was speechless.
Jiang Chuchu: [Did you get styled? What are you wearing?]
Gu Qinghuan: [Styling… isn’t necessary, right…]
Jiang Chuchu pinched the bridge of her nose and called over Jin Jubao. “Assistant Jin, please pick Qinghuan up and take her to Merriness for styling.”
Merriness was a styling studio co-founded by her mother Zhu Qinglan and Qin Yanxia. Though it had an English name, they preferred calling it “Kuaihuo”—meaning both “joyful” and “living happily.”
It was Saturday. Gu Qinghuan couldn’t show up at Yunjin Tower in her Mingde school uniform—especially not when facing someone like Wei Xiao.
Even if he already knew her family background, once Jiang Chuchu intervened and he saw how she was dressed, he would understand how seriously Jiang valued her—and would act more cautiously toward her.
Jin Jubao acknowledged and hurried off to pick her up.
To be honest, Jin Jubao was quite curious about Gu Qinghuan. She had watched Walking with Light and gathered plenty of information, roughly guessing what they had accomplished through the show.
Even if she didn’t know exactly how much Gu Qinghuan contributed, she still wanted to meet such a bold girl.
When Gu Qinghuan opened the door, Jiang Chuchu had already informed her, so she wasn’t surprised to see Jin Jubao—just a little shy with a stranger.
“Hello, I’m Miss Jiang’s assistant, Jin Jubao.” Jin Jubao smiled warmly.
She was a little nervous. Growing up, she had often heard people say her name sounded “too tacky.” She didn’t know if girls this age would think the same.
Gu Qinghuan’s eyes lit up. “What a lucky-sounding name!”
Wang Jiaan came out after hearing the noise. “What’s lucky?”
Seeing Jin Jubao, he quickly greeted her. “Hello, may I ask who you are?”
“I’m Miss Gu’s classmate—Miss Jiang Chuchu’s assistant. My name is Jin Jubao,” she introduced herself again.
Wang Jiaan nodded. “Oh, hello, Assistant Jin. You’re here to take Qinghuan to meet Chuchu, right?”
Jin Jubao glanced at Gu Qinghuan, who was desperately blinking at her.
She understood and smiled. “Yes, Miss Jiang asked me to pick her up.”
Hearing his daughter called “Miss Gu” felt a bit novel to Wang Jiaan. He nodded. “Alright. Could I have your contact information?”
Jin Jubao readily gave her number. After confirming it worked, Wang Jiaan waved them off and went back to mopping the floor.
Once in the car, Gu Qinghuan let out a long sigh.
If her dad found out she was going to Yunjin Tower for lunch with a boy, he would definitely worry himself sick.
And since Wei Xiao truly had ill intentions, she had selectively kept this from her family.
Sitting in the back seat while Jin Jubao sat in the front, Gu Qinghuan’s sigh caught Jin Jubao’s attention. She turned slightly and smiled. “Miss Jiang told you already? I’m taking you for styling.”
“She did,” Gu Qinghuan nodded, looking as if she were heading into battle. “I’m mentally prepared.”
She lacked awareness in this area, but after Jiang Chuchu pointed it out, she understood.
Just like you wear surgical scrubs in an operating room or body armor when facing firearms—your outfit should match the situation. It’s protection, not compromise.
In normal situations, she could wear whatever she liked.
But facing Wei Xiao, she needed to be fully equipped.
After all, someone like him judged people by appearances.
Gu Qinghuan originally thought styling would be exhausting like in TV dramas. But after arriving at “Kuaihuo,” she fell asleep not long after.
When she woke up, everything was already done—she just needed to change into the prepared outfit.
Looking at herself in the mirror, she puffed her cheeks, raised her brows, and exclaimed, “Is this really me?”
Jin Jubao laughed at her expressions. “Alright, it’s almost lunchtime. Let’s go.”
At their age, youth itself was already radiant. With just a bit of refinement, they could shine brightly.
When Jiang Chuchu saw her, she immediately raised her phone and took a picture.
Jiang Chuchu: [Image.jpg]
Yu Xin: [Qinghuan looks amazing like this!]
Shi Guanghui: [Discipline Committee, your photography skills aren’t great though.]
Qin Yue: [Cover Shi Guanghui’s mouth and drag him away.]
Xie Xiangxue: [The makeup isn’t as heavy as the New Year performance, but it looks very comfortable.]
Stage makeup was always heavier—otherwise strong lighting would blur facial features.
It was Gu Qinghuan’s first time dressing like this, and she felt a little shy. “How is it?”
“Perfect!” Jiang Chuchu praised sincerely.
Ji Tianxiao also came over after seeing the chat. He gave a thumbs-up. “Class monitor looks very sharp today!”
Gu Qinghuan relaxed a bit and returned the gesture. “You look convincing too!”
“Of course. I’m a professional—whatever I play, I become,” Ji Tianxiao lifted his chin proudly.
Listening to their mutual compliments, Jiang Chuchu checked the time. “It’s almost 11. According to etiquette, Wei Xiao should arrive soon. Qinghuan, why don’t you wait in a lounge first and go in after he’s seated?”
It wasn’t that she couldn’t arrive first—but given Wei Xiao’s personality, who knew if he’d interpret it as her being eager?
Gu Qinghuan agreed. Ji Tianxiao volunteered to guide her.
“You’ve memorized the layout already?” she asked curiously.
“Just the first floor and the floor with Wei Xiao’s reserved room,” he replied. “I used to work as an NPC in escape rooms—those layouts are way harder.”
Gu Qinghuan waited in the lounge on the first floor—chatting in the group and even watching Yu Xin help others solve two problems.
At 11:20, Wei Xiao sent her the room number.
She stood up, smoothed her clothes, and her fighting spirit surged.
Time to see what tricks Wei Xiao had prepared today.
