Chapter 180: Winter Break Summary
During the winter break, aside from the New Year cleaning, Gu Qinghuan spent her time properly resting.
The first semester of high school had passed smoothly. No matter how one looked at it, it had been quite lively. And judging from the task progress, she would have to work even harder going forward.
The system wanted to correct her misunderstanding—although the students of Class Three were indeed all “potential rebirth candidates,” it didn’t mean Gu Qinghuan had to complete everyone’s tasks.
Generally speaking, as long as the completion rate reached a passing level, even if a few people’s tasks weren’t finished, that level of loss was still within what the world could tolerate.
But thinking about Gu Qinghuan’s personality, the system felt there was no need to correct her.
She was just that kind of person. Since she could bring a turning point to others’ fates, she would naturally do her utmost.
Gu Qinghuan had also carefully thought through her plans.
First, regarding the rewards from Bao Qingsong and Xie Xiangxue’s tasks—she already had some ideas, just waiting to put them into action.
Second, for the other classmates’ tasks, she planned that starting next semester, she would create a file for each classmate and analyze the reasons behind their “despairing fates.”
It would take a lot of time and effort, but no matter how she thought about it, it was worth it.
According to the system, all of Class Three’s task progress had increased to varying degrees. Gu Qinghuan concluded that class cohesion and friendly relationships among classmates were also important factors affecting fate.
As class monitor, she had done quite well. Whenever something happened, everyone would discuss it in the group chat, offering support and advice—preventing anyone from getting stuck in their own head.
Speaking of the class group chat, after the final exam results were released, it had been “lively” for a few days—but not in a good way.
As expected, the average score of Class Three had dropped this time—there had simply been too many things going on, making it hard to stay focused.
The class average ranking fell from third in the grade to fifth, essentially returning to their ranking from the first monthly exam.
Individual scores also declined slightly. Fortunately, Yu Xin still firmly held third place in the grade and was practically worshipped by the whole class.
As for Gu Qinghuan, her ranking dropped to 12th in class and 105th in the grade—falling out of the top 100 entirely.
When Gu Haiyan and Wang Jia’an found out, they comforted her not to dwell too much on temporary results. She had been distracted by filming the program, and as long as she worked hard next semester, it would be fine.
Though touched, Gu Qinghuan still felt quite ashamed. During the break, whenever Su Lin had time, she would ask her questions and make up for her weak points from last semester.
Speaking of Su Lin, her mother was now much better.
Following Gu Qinghuan’s suggestion, Su Lin had persuaded her mother to move to a place more suitable for recovery. At her pre-New Year check-up, the doctor said she was recovering well and would be able to resume normal activity by spring.
As long as she didn’t take on overly strenuous work, there wouldn’t be much impact.
Su Lin mentioned that during her mother’s hospitalization, she heard several patients say that their plants and pets at home had no one to care for—so she planned to try offering in-home pet and plant care services.
On that note, Su Lin’s mother, Lin Lingshan, was extremely confident—she had always been good at raising anything.
Dyed chicks bought from street vendors could grow under her care and even lay eggs; a nearly dead asparagus fern tossed out by a neighbor could grow to half a person’s height in her hands.
Gu Qinghuan: Why can’t I even keep a cactus alive?
In any case, Lin Lingshan now had motivation, which was a great comfort to Su Lin. With a good mindset, life would only get better.
And as for the final exams, Su Lin remained firmly in first place in the grade, maintaining a large gap from second place.
Aside from studying, Gu Qinghuan also kept an eye on Yu Yuan during the break.
According to Jiang Chuchu, although Wei Xiao didn’t show any obvious issues for now, based on Yu Yuan’s description of his behavior as a child, he was definitely not a good person.
She had even repeatedly warned Gu Qinghuan to stay highly vigilant and not be deceived by Wei Xiao—which left Gu Qinghuan quite puzzled.
Why worry about her being deceived? Not to mention she didn’t think she’d be easily fooled—what about her would even attract Wei Xiao’s attention?
Still, seeing Jiang Chuchu so on edge, she obediently agreed.
According to Yu Xin and Yu Yuan, Wei Xiao visited the Yu family twice during the break.
The first time, he came with his mother, Xu Zhishu. The second time, he visited alone—both after the New Year, four days apart.
If the first visit was just a holiday courtesy call, the second felt much more personal—mainly chatting with Yu Yuan alone.
But the conversation topics were ordinary—asking about Mingde School, since he would be transferring there next semester.
There was still too little contact. In fact, Gu Qinghuan hadn’t even met Wei Xiao in person, so she couldn’t form any judgment yet—she would have to wait until school started.
With Bai Hanshan’s help as vice president of the student council, she easily found out which class Wei Xiao would join.
Class 2 of Grade 1—right next door to Class 3, and the same class as Su Lin.
Class 2’s situation was… somewhat peculiar.
Perhaps because Su Lin’s “top student aura” was too overwhelming, the other students had almost no motivation to study.
Coincidentally, their family backgrounds were all quite well-off, so they cared even less about their grades—after all, even without university, they could still live comfortably.
Fortunately, while they didn’t study much, they didn’t resent Su Lin either. When others mentioned her, they would just say, “Yeah, yeah, our class has this genius named Su Lin—she’s amazing.”
Their homeroom teacher found their attitude amusing. Once, another teacher showed her a video of capybaras, and she immediately exclaimed, “Isn’t that just my class?!”
The students of Class 2 wholeheartedly agreed, dubbing themselves the “Capybara Class,” even filling the back blackboard with capybara drawings.
After seeing it, their homeroom teacher had to lean against the wall when leaving the classroom.
Thinking about it this way, Gu Qinghuan couldn’t help but wonder—would someone like Wei Xiao also turn into a “capybara” after joining Class 2?
…Probably not.
All in all, Gu Qinghuan had a very fulfilling winter break—she was even a little excited for school to start again.
However, three days before the new semester, seeing the class group chat filled with wails of despair, she was so speechless she didn’t even send a meme—just six dots.
Yu Xin: [Why haven’t you done your homework?]
Some Class 3 students: The class rep’s words hit straight to the heart, waaaah!
Jiang Chuchu: [Why haven’t you done your homework?]
Some Class 3 students: …Same words, same punctuation—why does the discipline officer sound so terrifying?!
Qin Yue, caught in the middle, bravely said: [The break was only about a month… it went by too fast… we just kept playing and forgot to do it…]
Jiang Chuchu: [And you think that’s a valid excuse?!]
Qin Yue immediately shut up.
Jiang Chuchu: [Start writing now! Even if the teachers don’t check, I will!]
Some Class 3 students: It’s over. We were planning to secretly copy homework from the class rep—now that’s definitely impossible.
Gu Qinghuan rubbed her temples and sent a message:
[For humanities subjects, just write key points, or underline information from the question. At worst, note the answer’s page number in the textbook or notes.]
[For science subjects, if you know how to solve it but just need time, put any answer. If you’re unsure, write it properly—if you still can’t solve it, come ask.]
Song Yi: [Sis! As expected of you!]
Ming Xiaolan: [Makes sense. Homework is mainly to maintain study habits and reinforce knowledge. Since the first goal isn’t achievable now, at least we can still achieve the second.]
Lin Zhulu: [Looking at it this way, there’s suddenly way less homework! Class monitor, you’re the best!]
Gu Qinghuan: [Then hurry up and write.]
Some Class 3 students: [We’re going now!]
