Chapter 162: Can Do It
When Gu Qinghuan followed Jiang Chuchu and rushed to the livestream location, a crowd had already gathered.
Bai Qingyin immediately spotted Xu Hanhai and Wu Changxiao, but didn’t see Bai Hanshan. She rushed straight toward the two directors, calling out anxiously, “Director, where’s my brother?”
Xu Hanhai’s expression was somewhat complicated. Even though she had received prior notice from the authorities, she hadn’t expected the Bai siblings’ acting to be this good.
She grabbed Bai Qingyin’s wrist and said steadily, “Listen to me—Bai Hanshan has been sent to the hospital.”
The cameraman who had just arrived captured that sentence perfectly in Bai Qingyin’s livestream, and the audience heard it clearly.
Gu Qinghuan immediately scanned the surroundings. Bai Hanshan had been sent to the hospital—then where was Ye Weiyu? He didn’t seem to be here either.
Could it be that the plainclothes police lurking on campus had already taken him away?
She exchanged a glance with Jiang Chuchu. Jiang Chuchu stepped forward to draw the camera’s attention, bringing the cameraman closer to Bai Qingyin to understand the situation, while Gu Qinghuan slipped to the back and opened the class group chat.
Gu Qinghuan sent a “grabbing popcorn” emoji, and Yao Shali immediately forwarded a timeline of events.
First, in the official livestream, everyone saw Ye Weiyu walk toward Bai Hanshan.
Because Bai Hanshan was standing farther away, viewers could only see Ye Weiyu grab his shoulder, turn him around, and speak face-to-face.
The distance was too far for clear audio, but when Ye Weiyu raised his voice, fragments could be heard—roughly accusing Bai Hanshan of obstructing him.
Bai Hanshan remained calm the entire time, while Ye Weiyu grew increasingly agitated, eventually shoving him hard.
On camera, Bai Hanshan fell to the ground, landing on his left shoulder. Covering it with his right hand, he struggled to get up and even shouted, “I think it’s broken—call an ambulance!”
Ye Weiyu seemed startled, stepping back as if intending to flee.
But at that moment, Xu Hanhai and Wu Changxiao arrived. Wu Changxiao immediately called emergency services, while Xu Hanhai approached Ye Weiyu and sternly questioned him.
After only a few questions, Ye Weiyu suddenly shouted, “It wasn’t me!” and turned to run.
He had barely taken a few steps before a bystander grabbed him, skillfully pinning him to the ground. Then another person wearing gloves searched his pockets, pulled out a cigarette pack, and placed it into an evidence bag handed over by someone else.
Those “bystanders” took Ye Weiyu away, while others stayed behind to investigate and coordinate with the directors. It was at this moment that Bai Qingyin and the others arrived.
Gu Qinghuan: [This is insane…]
Qin Yue: [Class monitor, I saw people in the comments saying those were plainclothes police—and that Ye Weiyu was using drugs. Is that true?]
Gu Qinghuan: [Let’s wait for the official police report.]
She didn’t know the full truth yet and couldn’t give any conclusions.
The classmates, who had been speculating wildly, calmed down after seeing her response. Right—since it was already trending, the police would definitely release a statement. Guessing here was pointless; better to wait.
Gu Qinghuan put away her phone, walked to Jiang Chuchu’s side, and quietly explained the situation.
By then, Xu Hanhai had finished coordinating with the police. Turning around and seeing the crowd, she felt a headache coming on.
Cooperating with the authorities was necessary—but now Bai Hanshan had been sent to the hospital, and Ye Weiyu had been arrested. What were they supposed to do about tonight’s program?
During this time, Bai Qingyin had made several calls. When she returned, she appeared much calmer. “I’ve sent my assistant over. The initial diagnosis isn’t a fracture, but the doctor said to rest and observe for now.”
Lou Zheng let out a sigh of relief, then frowned. “What should we do now?”
Xu Hanhai frowned deeply. “Lou Zheng’s performance is a duet recitation—losing one person ruins half of it. As for Ye Weiyu’s performance, the dance and calligraphy were meant to accompany the singing. Now that’s ruined too.”
The three of them discussed solutions. Removing Ye Weiyu’s program alone could be justified—after all, he’d been taken away by the police. But they would still need to reassure the participating students and their parents.
However, if Lou Zheng’s performance was also canceled, they wouldn’t be able to answer to Jinding.
They all understood—tonight, Yan Guanglei would likely be taken down as well.
The problem was that the livestream was still ongoing. Netizens didn’t know the full situation yet. Ye Weiyu’s fans aside, Lou Zheng’s fans would definitely start attacking. They had to find a way to stabilize things before moving to the next stage.
“Can I make a suggestion?” Gu Qinghuan raised her hand.
“Go ahead,” Xu Hanhai turned to her.
“The song Ye Weiyu was supposed to sing—it’s not his original, but a cover, right?” Gu Qinghuan asked.
Xu Hanhai nodded, and Gu Qinghuan continued, “Then, can Sister Bai sing it?”
Bai Qingyin thought for a moment and shook her head. “That song is widely known—I can sing it. But it’s a Jinding artist’s program, and I’m from Wuyin Entertainment. It wouldn’t be appropriate for me to replace him.”
“In that case,” Gu Qinghuan blinked, “can you teach Ning Fu to sing it before the performance?”
All three were immediately surprised.
The livestream chat became lively:
[Yes! If a Mingde student sings it, it becomes a school performance—Jinding can’t really complain.]
[Anyone who’s watched Bai group’s stream knows Ning Fu’s level. It’s rushed, but she should manage.]
[She might even sing better than Ye Weiyu!]
Xu Hanhai nodded. “That could work. Ye Weiyu’s situation is Jinding’s problem. This is originally Mingde’s gala—if a student fills in, Jinding won’t have grounds to make trouble.”
“As for my recitation program,” Lou Zheng looked at Gu Qinghuan, “do you have any ideas?”
Gu Qinghuan scratched her cheek. That one was much harder—memorizing lines in such a short time and having the composure to perform under pressure.
The recitation itself wasn’t the biggest issue—given the situation, the audience probably wouldn’t be too strict.
Just as she was thinking, her phone rang. It was Su Lin.
He got straight to the point. “Gu Qinghuan, turn on speaker.”
She did as told. Su Lin’s voice remained as calm as ever. “I saw your situation through the livestream. I’ll help.”
“Really?!” Gu Qinghuan was delighted.
Su Lin hummed in acknowledgment. “I mainly don’t want the filming to drag on too long. If it’s just stepping in temporarily, for one day, that’s fine.”
“Will it trouble you?” Gu Qinghuan asked.
“No,” Su Lin said firmly. “You all spoke up for me before—I want to show my gratitude. This is everyone’s gala. I don’t want it to have any regrets.”
“Can you memorize and rehearse within half a day?” Gu Qinghuan asked, already smiling.
“I can do it,” Su Lin replied, his words resolute.
