Chapter 134: This Is Absolutely Absurd!!
Wu Guifang was the first to stand up, utterly shocked, her face filled with disbelief.
“What? You’re getting married? To whom? Fenglan, are you joking?”
The news had hit her like a thunderbolt. She knew that Wang Fenglan, like herself, didn’t want to marry anyone from the team. The two of them had been in the educated youth compound the longest and considered each other friends.
But such sudden news — and right at the critical moment when they had just failed to get the worker-peasant-soldier university quota — completely blindsided her.

And now, that very afternoon, she heard that her comrade-in-arms — the one who’d been fighting alongside her — had already taken that next step and was about to discuss marriage.
She couldn’t believe it.
The others were also more or less shocked, though they didn’t show it openly.
Ning Xiyue, however, was deep in thought.
With a faint, calm smile, Wang Fenglan nodded firmly. “It’s true, I’m not lying. I’m getting married on the fifth day of the month — to Li Jiandang from our team. You all have to come. Here, you’re the only family I’ve got.”
The moment the groom’s name was spoken, everyone was even more stunned — too shocked to speak.
Wu Guifang especially felt that Wang Fenglan was doing this out of desperation — giving up on herself and acting recklessly because of the failure with the worker-peasant-soldier quota.
She wanted to say something to dissuade her, but when she saw the firm and serious look in Wang Fenglan’s eyes, the words stuck in her throat and she swallowed them back down.

None of them could have imagined that the same Li Jiandang Wu Xiuli had failed to get would now be marrying Wang Fenglan.
Chen Yechu was the first to step forward and offer congratulations, smiling as she did so. “Congratulations, Sister Fenglan.”
“Thank you,” Wang Fenglan replied with a smile.
Ning Xiyue followed suit immediately, offering her own congratulations without a trace of awkwardness. “Sister Fenglan, let me wish you a happy marriage in advance.”
“Mm, thank you, Xiyue.” Wang Fenglan smiled gratefully, her expression calm, as if nothing had happened at noon.
With someone taking the lead, the others also stood up one after another, their congratulations echoing through the room.
Whether sincere or not, at least in that moment, everyone wore a smile and offered their blessings.
Wang Fenglan kept smiling and nodding, fully immersed in joy.

Ning Xiyue mulled this over. It was probably because they’d been caught twice that they decided to move the date up.
Who would have guessed that Wang Fenglan could be so ruthless? She cut off the gossip at its root — now people would only talk about the wedding itself.
“I wonder how Wu Xiuli’s going to react to this,” Li Xiuxiu said, looking like a spectator at a drama.
Ning Xiyue thought of Wu Xiuli too. That girl was far too extreme and unstable — a total wildcard.
