Cannon Fodder in the 1970s: With a Sign-In System – CH134

This Is Absolutely Absurd!!

Chapter 134: This Is Absolutely Absurd!!

Wu Guifang was the first to stand up, utterly shocked, her face filled with disbelief.

“What? You’re getting married? To whom? Fenglan, are you joking?”

The news had hit her like a thunderbolt. She knew that Wang Fenglan, like herself, didn’t want to marry anyone from the team. The two of them had been in the educated youth compound the longest and considered each other friends.

But such sudden news — and right at the critical moment when they had just failed to get the worker-peasant-soldier university quota — completely blindsided her.

That very morning, she had gone to talk to Ning Xiyue, saying she was close to giving up and might just marry anyone. After that conversation, she’d thought things through and calmed down.

And now, that very afternoon, she heard that her comrade-in-arms — the one who’d been fighting alongside her — had already taken that next step and was about to discuss marriage.

She couldn’t believe it.

The others were also more or less shocked, though they didn’t show it openly.

Ning Xiyue, however, was deep in thought.

With a faint, calm smile, Wang Fenglan nodded firmly. “It’s true, I’m not lying. I’m getting married on the fifth day of the month — to Li Jiandang from our team. You all have to come. Here, you’re the only family I’ve got.”

The moment the groom’s name was spoken, everyone was even more stunned — too shocked to speak.

Wu Guifang especially felt that Wang Fenglan was doing this out of desperation — giving up on herself and acting recklessly because of the failure with the worker-peasant-soldier quota.

She wanted to say something to dissuade her, but when she saw the firm and serious look in Wang Fenglan’s eyes, the words stuck in her throat and she swallowed them back down.

If there was one thing everyone here remembered most about Li Jiandang, it was the relentless pursuit by Wu Xiuli — and, of course, the dramatic scene by the reservoir with Chen Yechu as one of the leads.

None of them could have imagined that the same Li Jiandang Wu Xiuli had failed to get would now be marrying Wang Fenglan.

Chen Yechu was the first to step forward and offer congratulations, smiling as she did so. “Congratulations, Sister Fenglan.”

“Thank you,” Wang Fenglan replied with a smile.

Ning Xiyue followed suit immediately, offering her own congratulations without a trace of awkwardness. “Sister Fenglan, let me wish you a happy marriage in advance.”

“Mm, thank you, Xiyue.” Wang Fenglan smiled gratefully, her expression calm, as if nothing had happened at noon.

With someone taking the lead, the others also stood up one after another, their congratulations echoing through the room.

Whether sincere or not, at least in that moment, everyone wore a smile and offered their blessings.

Wang Fenglan kept smiling and nodding, fully immersed in joy.

In truth, Ning Xiyue was also a little shocked. She really hadn’t expected things to move so quickly — she had seen them hugging just that morning, and by the afternoon, they were already announcing their wedding. It was faster than even the quickest modern-day flash marriage.

That afternoon, when she went to the clinic, Ning Xiyue had heard a few tidbits from Li Xiuxiu, and later, even more juicy details from the neighborhood “gossip auntie squad” who came to chat with her.

It turned out that Wang Fenglan and Li Jiandang’s marriage was arranged by none other than Li Jiandang’s mother — “Big-Mouth Wang.”

Wang Fenglan was straightforward, capable, and efficient at work — both inside and outside the home, she was a strong and capable woman. Big-Mouth Wang had long had her eye on her as an ideal daughter-in-law.

Previously, though, Wang Fenglan had made it clear she wasn’t planning on getting married anytime soon. Only recently had she hinted that she was open to meeting someone.

So Big-Mouth Wang had immediately rushed over to talk to her, eager to free her son from Wu Xiuli’s entanglement. They quickly discussed the bride price and then settled on a wedding date.

That very day, when Aunt Qiuju and the others went out looking for their ox, they’d run into Wang Fenglan and Li Jiandang — though not in the same place where Ning Xiyue had seen them.

The couple was just unlucky: first they were spotted by Ning Xiyue and Ning Qingyuan, then they were caught again by the women searching for the ox.

But instead of panicking, Wang Fenglan reacted quickly. She boldly announced their marriage on the spot and invited the aunties to their wedding banquet. Li Jiandang, smiling from ear to ear, chimed in happily beside her.

Li Xiuxiu whispered the real scoop into Ning Xiyue’s ear:

“Apparently, the original wedding date was supposed to be sometime after the tenth. I’m guessing that since they were seen together acting intimately today — and worried about rumors — they moved the date up by more than ten days.”

Ning Xiyue mulled this over. It was probably because they’d been caught twice that they decided to move the date up.

Who would have guessed that Wang Fenglan could be so ruthless? She cut off the gossip at its root — now people would only talk about the wedding itself.

“I wonder how Wu Xiuli’s going to react to this,” Li Xiuxiu said, looking like a spectator at a drama.

Ning Xiyue thought of Wu Xiuli too. That girl was far too extreme and unstable — a total wildcard.

Sure enough, when she returned to the educated youth compound that night, Ning Xiyue saw Wu Xiuli — who had been locked up at home and hadn’t shown her face in ages — burst into the courtyard like a madwoman.

But could someone please explain to her why the first person Wu Xiuli charged at wasn’t Wang Fenglan — but her, Ning Xiyue — who had just stepped into the yard??

This was absolutely absurd!!

She was just out having a meal when — poof — she disappeared. When Ning Xiyue opened her eyes again, she had already transmigrated into the 1970s — and worse, she was now a minor cannon-fodder character in a “lucky mascot + everyone dotes on the heroine” era novel, a love-brained side character whose only purpose was to deliver resources and equipment to the female lead. Ning Xiyue declares: “No way! I refuse to be a love-brain.” She will tear apart scumbag men and b*tchy women with her bare hands. If someone takes what belongs to her — they’ll return it. If someone eats what’s hers — they’ll spit it back out. Did someone give away something that might become her future “golden finger” (cheat item)? She’ll snatch it back. If the cheat isn’t useful to her? She’ll smash it to pieces with a brick rather than let anyone else benefit from it. The scumbag man who harmed the original owner? She’ll kick him all the way to the desolate northwest. And the “white lotus” cousin who conspired with him to kill the original owner — and who is supposedly the female lead? She’d better prepare to face Ning Xiyue’s wrath. Later, Ning Xiyue obtained a golden finger of her own — a sign-in system where everything in the world could be signed in and acquired. With this system, she happily went to the countryside as a “sent-down youth,” supporting rural development. But once she arrived, she realized that the novel she had transmigrated into wasn’t so simple after all. The scheming cousin isn’t the real female lead? There’s someone else who is? Ning Xiyue says: “I don’t care who the female lead is. That white lotus cousin isn’t escaping — I’m still going to beat her up and torture her.” As for the real heroine — why not just sit back, munch melon seeds, watch the drama unfold, and focus on building her own career? Note: The male lead is mostly a background character and doesn’t appear much.
