Chapter 171: You Gotta Use Your Brain to Work
After Su He paid the phone bill, Principal Chen asked, “What did Old Feng say to you? Weren’t you just telling him about the train schedule? Why did it take so long?”
Su He smiled with pursed lips. “Nothing much—just that I’ve been promoted to Deputy Director of Sales at the textile factory. What do you think? I accidentally became an official, and honestly, I’m still not quite used to it!”
Principal Chen: “……”
“Oh, right. Director Hu from the machinery factory also said they’re giving me Mid-Autumn Festival benefits. Don’t you think he’s jumping the gun a bit?”
Principal Chen: …I’m dying of envy here!
Since it wasn’t rush hour, Su He took the bus with Principal Chen to pick up the photos they’d taken two days ago by the river.
Principal Chen was very satisfied with the pictures and slightly regretted not taking more. After all, it was Old Tian footing the bill—he should’ve struck a few more poses.
Then they headed to a nearby department store.
Su He had promised to buy some clothes for Teacher Yuan on behalf of Nie Wenjie, and she intended to keep her word.
This time, she didn’t use any tricks—just lined up properly and had Principal Chen wait off to the side.
Principal Chen found it a bit strange!
Ever since they got to S City, Su He seemed to be capable of anything and had been enjoying all sorts of “privileges.”
After a while, Su He squeezed out of the crowd carrying several sets of clothes.
Principal Chen was puzzled. “Why did you buy so much?”
“I thought the quality was good and the price reasonable, so I bought a few more sets.”
Principal Chen figured Nie Wenjie’s money surely wasn’t enough, and this girl must’ve chipped in from her own pocket again.
This child may be cunning, but she has a truly kind heart!
That’s exactly why he was willing to cover for her—or even take the fall if necessary.
Back at the Jinxiang Hotel, Su He spoke to the trading system: “Doggie, help me search for instant noodle production line blueprints appropriate for this era. Then look up this fall and winter’s international fashion fabric trends…”
Trading System: …Not only are you freeloading, now you want me to be your search engine too?! I’m a trading system, not your personal assistant! I’m not doing it. Absolutely not!
Su He: “ Doggie, this is for your own good. You’ve been conserving energy by not using your brain when you talk—keep that up, and you’ll turn into a total fool! So you need to learn how to use your brain without energy. Like me—The Art of War and Thirty-Six Stratagems flow through my blood, I just naturally use them. Helping me search is a great way to train your brain. Think about it—one day, you’ll be the smartest system in the entire system world. How cool would that be…”
The trading system got more excited the longer it listened—transforming from a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle into a full-blown stewed snapping turtle!
The host was right. I do need to train my brain. I want to be the intellectual icon of the system world!
Its screen flashed madly as it began searching for the information Su He requested.
Su He crossed her legs, sipped tea, and snacked contentedly.
Just like the Su family, Doggie was the kind that couldn’t be spoiled. Give it an inch and it’d take a mile. You had to keep it on a leash—with a carrot dangling in front—if you wanted it to work hard.
The trading system was much faster than Su He at searching. It soon gathered a huge pile of data for her.
Su He frowned. “Doggie, how many times have I told you—use your brain when you work! You dumped a mountain of stuff and expect me to pick through it? If I had the time for that, what would I need you for? Trim it down!”
The trading system scurried off to filter the results.
Finally, Su He got the streamlined materials she wanted and praised the trading system.
The trading system was thrilled—felt like all its hard work had finally paid off!
Su He then organized the information and copied it onto a blank sheet of paper.
The next morning, she called Section Chief Yu at the textile factory.
“Section Chief Yu, based on some conversations I had with foreign guests, I’ve compiled this year’s overseas fall and winter fashion trends. I’ll take the bus over shortly. But I’ll have to go a bit later—Principal Chen’s getting older, and he has trouble getting on crowded buses… Huh? You’re sending a car for me? Well then, alright!”
Principal Chen, standing next to her: “……”
Su He and Principal Chen arrived at the textile factory in a sedan.
As they passed the front gate, Su He—as usual—rolled down the window and nodded at the gatekeepers.
They quickly nodded back, and two even saluted her.
Principal Chen: …This is ridiculous.
After meeting with Section Chief Yu, Su He handed over the information she had compiled.
Section Chief Yu treated it like treasure!
Although things had eased up a lot in the past two years, information from overseas was still hard to come by.
And since it was currently peak production season for fall and winter fabrics, Su He’s data couldn’t have come at a better time.
He thought Su He was the best part-time sales hire ever!
After some small talk, Su He said, “Section Chief Yu, the team from An County Textile Factory led by Director Gao will depart tomorrow morning. They should arrive the morning after. Could you help arrange their accommodations? You don’t need to do it as a favor to me—just follow the factory’s standard policies. Whatever the costs are, they’ll pay.”
Section Chief Yu: “……”
That felt like a subtle jab.
No wonder she dropped off the report first thing in the morning—this was what she was leading up to!
He felt a little sour—Su He clearly treated the An County folks better than she did him!
Honestly, the An County side were like legitimate heirs, while their S City team were just the side branch.
But Section Chief Yu was broad-minded. This was an easy favor to grant.
“Little Su, you’re one of us at No.1 Textile. The An County Textile Factory is affiliated under our umbrella. Director Gao and his people are no different from our own employees. We’ll take care of their meals and lodging! Also, don’t worry—I’ll instruct the relevant departments to teach them the ins and outs of foreign trade. No one will give them a hard time.”
Principal Chen stood quietly off to the side: “……”
Old Feng must’ve done some serious good deeds in a past life—how else could he have ended up with someone like Su He?!
Not only did she help land the export order, she was also handling every detail of the travel arrangements for their staff. Not even a daughter would go this far!
After expressing her gratitude, Su He rubbed her hands together and said, “Section Chief Yu, I have one more small, shameless request.”
Section Chief Yu chuckled. “What is it? Just say it!”
Su He laughed awkwardly. “I’m a bit vain and like to make an impression. Could we have two sedans to pick them up the day after tomorrow?”
Section Chief Yu: “…Sure.”
When someone is capable, even their unreasonable requests are hard to turn down.
Right now, Su He was basically the goddess of wealth—of course she had to be pampered.
Might as well consider it an early wedding motorcade!
It had become trendy in S City these past two years for people of status to borrow factory sedans as wedding cars, and No.1 Textile’s cars were in high demand for that.
Meanwhile, Director Gao and his team were already on the train.
They were riding in hard sleeper class—a special approval from Director Feng.
“I have high hopes for all of you. If you don’t learn foreign trade properly, the sleeper ticket cost will come out of your pay!”
Director Gao had no confidence. Even though the team he brought were all college grads and had learned English, they knew nothing about foreign trade.
He’d even heard the folks in S City—especially those at No.1 Textile—were super arrogant and might give them a hard time…
