Chapter 167: A Joyous Occasion
Director Gao listened to Su He’s almost boastful report over the phone, feeling like he was in a dream.
“Little Su, this—this isn’t a joke, right? Are you serious?”
Su He’s tone turned serious too. “It’s true. The purchase contract is already signed. The order is for 21,000 units, with a total value of $31,518 USD. The delivery timeline is 90 days. Since our An County Textile Factory doesn’t have import-export rights, I partnered with No.1 Textile Factory in S City to temporarily operate under their account. Once our documentation is complete, we’ll renew the contract with the foreign buyer under our own name.
Please report this to Director Feng immediately, and send someone to S City No.1 Textile Factory to learn about foreign trade procedures—production can’t be delayed. Also, I had a train conductor I know take the samples and design drawings that the foreign buyer approved, so the factory can start procuring materials right after receiving them. Oh, and I designed a trademark label myself. Please begin trademark registration right away, and in the future, we’ll handle overseas trademark filings too…”
Director Gao hesitated. “Little Su, do we really need to register a trademark?”
“Of course! Director Gao, this isn’t just a one-off deal—it’s a goldmine for sustainable growth!
Let me put it this way: there’s huge demand overseas for hair accessories, and prices can go very high. What we’re doing now is only the low-end product line. In the future, we’ll launch mid-to-high-end jewelry like pearl accessories, which require brand recognition. That makes trademark registration essential…”
Director Gao didn’t fully grasp it all—after all, he was just a sales head in a small county and had limited exposure to global trade. But the big vision Su He painted was simply too tempting, and he quickly said, “We’ll follow your plan! By the way, what’s the name of our brand?”
“When the foreign buyer asked about our brand during the contract signing, I couldn’t say we didn’t have one, so I blurted out ‘He’ brand. It’s the ‘He’ in grain seedlings.
Later I thought, using that as our trademark actually works well. ‘He’ originally refers to mature grain, symbolizing abundance and prosperity. Its extended meaning, as in young shoots, conveys growth and vitality—it’s auspicious and sounds nice.”
Director Gao: …You could’ve just said it’s your own name!!
But compared to the contract she secured, this detail was nothing.
Then something struck him belatedly. “Right, Little Su, how did you even get in touch with S City No.1 Textile Factory? Why did they agree to let us operate under them? And why are they letting us study their export business?”
S City First Textile Factory was a top-tier leader in the industry—maybe not number one in the country, but definitely top three! They were a big deal. Why would they be so accommodating?
Su He answered casually, “I’m now a part-time salesperson for them. We’re all one family—no need to distinguish between us.”
Director Gao: “…”
Are they that desperate for employees? Otherwise, how did Little Su become a part-time salesperson the moment she arrived?
He felt like there was more to the story, but it wasn’t appropriate to ask further. He just said, “Little Su, I’ll report to Director Feng right away. How do I contact you?”
“Write down the phone number for Jinxiang Hotel. Just ask the front desk to find me.”
Director Gao thought it was just a small guesthouse and didn’t think much of it. After jotting down the number, he hung up and rushed to find Director Feng.
Director Feng had just come out of his office, holding a thermos and a briefcase, when he saw Director Gao dashing over like a rabbit.
“Director! Director! Big news, big news!”
Director Feng frowned. “Little Gao, you’re in your forties. Can’t you act more composed? What’s the big news?”
“Little Su—Su He—closed a foreign trade deal in S City worth over $30,000!”
Clunk! Clatter!
The thermos and briefcase both hit the floor. Director Feng grabbed Director Gao by the collar. “What did you say?!”
Director Gao: …You were the one who said to stay composed!
After confirming several times that it was real, Director Feng’s eyes turned red with emotion.
“Little Gao, I never thought I’d live to see the day I could earn foreign currency for the country. My life hasn’t been in vain!”
This generation’s love for their country was something hard for later generations to truly understand. Though they had personal interests too, when the country needed them, they were willing to give everything.
It took a while for Director Feng to calm down enough to ask for details. Director Gao relayed everything Su He had told him.
Director Feng nodded repeatedly. “I always thought Little Su was a rare talent—turns out I was right! I’ve got a sharp eye!”
Director Gao: …Excuse me? I was the one who discovered her first!
As for Engineer He, who introduced Su He to the factory, Director Feng conveniently left him out.
Director Feng continued, “I’ll handle the trademark and export license paperwork. As soon as Su He’s samples arrive, we’ll procure the materials immediately. Also, you’ll lead a team to S City No.1 Textile Factory to study—depart no later than the day after tomorrow. If you don’t learn well, don’t come back!”
Director Gao: “…Got it.”
“And another thing—Su He’s a hot commodity now. We must keep her! Immediately raise her compensation—match yours!”
Director Gao: “…Got it.”
So much for working hard for twenty years—it couldn’t even compare to that girl’s one month!
Meanwhile, after paying the phone fee, Principal Chen said sourly, “I bet the folks at the County Textile Factory are over the moon right now.”
Forget the factory—the county leadership was probably ecstatic too!
Until now, An County had never had a single case of earning foreign currency through exports. Su He had just made history.
Su He grinned. “I don’t know if they’re going crazy, but Director Gao dropped the phone several times. By the way, I need to go to the train station tomorrow morning to send the sample accessories and design drawings back to the county textile factory.”
Principal Chen didn’t question why the factory didn’t have the samples or blueprints. He figured Su He had designed everything herself, so it made sense the factory didn’t have them.
What he did worry about was: “You’re shipping them? That’s risky—things could get lost.”
Su He laughed. “I asked someone to carry them for me—Conductor Yue Zhongcheng. Even if he’s not on duty, I can just use that train ticket stamp he gave me last time as a bluff. From now on, whether it’s An County or S City, if we need to send stuff, we can do it this way—fast, convenient, and free.”
Principal Chen: …
So that’s why you had him stamp your letter of proof before—you were planning to pull rank and get free delivery!
