Chapter 113: An County Is My Territory
Second Period.
During class, Mr. Fu Peng said, “In today’s lesson, we’ll use an article written by Su He, a special correspondent for the local radio station, to explain how to develop themes and structure in essay writing…”
While explaining, Fu Peng showered Su He with endless praise—almost declaring her the most talented woman in all of An County!
Su He, sitting quietly in the classroom, scoffed inwardly. There were so many examples he could’ve used, yet he just had to choose hers. Who would believe this wasn’t intentional?
Clearly, Fu Peng must be someone sent by Shen Ruyi.
After all, Luo Xiaoling wouldn’t have made her enroll in night school for no reason. It had obviously been a carefully laid plan.
And this time, Shen Ruyi’s pawn was smarter—he was playing the long game.
By lavishing her with praise in class, Fu Peng would ensure that Cao Hongmei and Su Yongshi would hear about it and think highly of him. Then, when they “coincidentally” met again, his show of concern would feel all the more natural.
What Fu Peng didn’t know was that Su He was actually in the classroom. Zhu Yanli had told him Su He hadn’t registered for night school, so he had no reason to expect she’d be there. He had even checked the student roster—no mention of her name.
As Fu Peng was enthusiastically praising her article, Su He raised her hand.
A flicker of surprise crossed Fu Peng’s eyes. He hadn’t noticed earlier, but among this crowd of country bumpkins, there was actually a beautiful girl.
“Yes, student? Do you have a question?”
Su He stood up and said calmly, “Teacher, Su He’s article is decent, but it’s definitely not as amazing as you say. I doubt she thought about all those metaphors you mentioned. I think you’re overinterpreting it.”
Fu Peng frowned slightly. “You probably haven’t understood the article deeply enough. If you read more of Comrade Su He’s writings, you’ll see my interpretation is valid.”
Su He smiled with a hint of sarcasm. “Teacher, I won’t argue with you on other points, but this time, I’m absolutely right.”
Fu Peng’s expression instantly darkened.
In his class, he was the ultimate authority!
Not to mention—this was part of his plan!
He snapped, “You’re disrupting class order! What’s your name?”
Su He replied with a pleasant smile, “Su He.”
Fu Peng: “…”
The classroom erupted into laughter.
The students had been holding it in for a while. This Mr. Fu was just too funny—going on and on about how amazing Su He was, without realizing she was sitting right in front of him!
And now he was arguing with the original author about the meaning of her own article? Talk about digging your own grave!
Fu Peng’s face turned green, then white. He cursed Zhu Yanli silently for giving him false information.
Wait a minute… Her name wasn’t on the roster. How was she here?
Was she auditing the class?
Several thoughts flashed through his mind. Then, forcing a smile, he said, “Ah, Su He! What a misunderstanding. I was just so impressed with your writing that I overanalyzed it a bit. I hope you don’t mind.”
Su He replied with a polite grin, “Thank you for the compliment, but it’s better to be realistic when teaching. We don’t want to mislead the students.”
Fu Peng was seething inside but forced himself to nod. “I’ll keep that in mind. Let’s continue with the lesson.”
To be fair, Fu Peng did have stronger mental composure than Lin Bo.
After class, he returned to the office he shared with Teacher Zhou, the homeroom teacher for the advanced course.
Teacher Zhou, who appreciated talent, had always treated Fu Peng well. When he saw Fu Peng walk in, he asked, “How was class discipline? No troublemakers, right?”
Fu Peng smiled. “The students are eager to learn—very well-behaved. By the way, Teacher Zhou, Su He is in your class?”
Teacher Zhou nodded. “She’s an excellent student—both the class monitor and the student council president. She’s also hosting this year’s performance.”
He didn’t mention that Su He had also helped secure sponsorships. One, because he wasn’t sure the task was complete yet. Two, because he felt awkward talking about something that sounded like begging.
Fu Peng’s mind immediately jumped to a conclusion—Su He must be auditing the class, and neither Teacher Zhou nor Principal Chen knew about it.
That was a weakness he could exploit. It might come in handy later…
After school, Su He rehearsed for the performance before heading home with Su Yongshi and Cao Hongmei.
On the way, Cao Hongmei hesitated before speaking. “Little He, do you think there’s something off about that Teacher Fu?”
She had figured things out after the fact.
Her niece wouldn’t embarrass someone for no reason. Plus, Fu Peng’s flattery had seemed way too excessive.
Since the incident with Su Jinbao, Cao Hongmei had become extremely cautious.
Su Yongshi had the same thought. In his mind, he lit a candle for Fu Peng.
Of all the people he could’ve messed with, he chose their niece?
He basically dug his own grave and wouldn’t even know what killed him.
By now, Su Yongshi had blind faith in Su He. He genuinely believed there was no problem his niece couldn’t solve!
Su He didn’t hide anything and told them that Luo Xiaoling had pushed her to join night school.
Fu Peng was more cunning than Lin Bo and might try to target her aunt and uncle. Better to give them a heads-up.
After hearing the whole story, Cao Hongmei was fuming. “That snake Shen Ruyi really is determined to destroy us!
I just don’t get it. That baby switch had nothing to do with our family. What exactly is she holding a grudge over?
And back when she lived with us, she was lazy and greedy but not this malicious. How did she suddenly become so clever after moving to the provincial capital?”
Su He was struck by that.
She’d always assumed Shen Ruyi acted out of resentment. But after hearing this, that assumption didn’t quite hold up.
And in the book, Shen Ruyi’s cunning schemes were too intricate for a rural girl to have come up with.
Even if she’d gone to the provincial capital, it was unlikely she’d become that shrewd so quickly.
Could there be more to this?
She mentally reviewed the plot and ruled out the possibility that Shen Ruyi was also a transmigrator—she hadn’t done anything that defied the era.
Then how did she “awaken”?
Was someone guiding her behind the scenes?
To be honest, if it weren’t for the powerful Shen family backing her, Su He would’ve barged in to uncover the truth already.
She smirked. Things were getting more and more interesting.
No rush. Eventually, she would peel back all the layers and uncover the truth.
Turning to Su Yongshi and Cao Hongmei, she said, “Uncle, Auntie, don’t worry. An County is my turf. Shen Ruyi can’t stir up much trouble here.”
Su Yongshi and Cao Hongmei: “…”
Niece, isn’t that a bit of an overstatement?
When did An County become your turf?
Why didn’t we get the memo?!
