Chapter 29: Bear and Wolf
The evening breeze was thick and humid.
Jiang Mianmian was sweating.
Her hair was damp and sticky.
It wasn’t very comfortable.
She was also a bit hungry, because there hadn’t been time at home to make her rice paste, so she had drank some fine-grain meat broth porridge instead.
It was a treatment exclusive to her and her injured older brother.
Her older sister, Jiang Yu, was drooling at the sight of it, but she was very sensible and firmly refused to drink any.
She walked with her head held high in her new embroidered shoes, like a proud little hen.
Then she went to drink the water used to rinse the bowls.
She was also very stubborn; no matter what her older brother said, she wouldn’t drink it.
Jiang Mianmian felt that her older sister was a person of great character. In some aspects, she was particularly vain, for instance, always liking to compare herself with her plastic friend A-Cui, but in other aspects, she was incredibly persistent and treated her family exceptionally well.
She was a bit careless, though; her older brother had just gone through a life-or-death crisis and was even delirious from fever…
She hadn’t panicked as much because she had the spiritual spring water, but her older sister, after going through such a night, still remembered to wear her new embroidered shoes the very next morning.
Jiang Mianmian quite envied her older sister’s personality.
She should be able to live well wherever she went.
She felt sticky and uncomfortable, missing Mother, wanting milk, and thinking about this life.
No air conditioning, no fans, no refrigerator, no Aptamil, Wyeth, Similac, Feihe, Friso…
She could only drink breast milk, and Mother wasn’t even home. o(╥﹏╥)o
Jiang Mianmian couldn’t help but pout.
Then she felt her body lift into the air; her older sister had picked her up and buried her face into her body to take a deep sniff.
Jiang Mianmian looked helpless yet secretly pleased.
She felt a tiny bit comforted inside.
“My older sister really likes me.”
Was her older sister treating her like a cat to sniff?
“My older sister is really clingy towards me.”
Jiang Yu took a sniff; she smelled fragrant, with no scent of poop or pee. She said, “Is Mianmian missing Mother? Mother will be back very soon. Older sister will rock you.”
Jiang Yu held her younger sister, rocking her gently at first, then swaying her more vigorously. Sure enough, she saw her younger sister open her mouth and start to laugh, so she laughed heartily too.
Jiang Mianmian was rocked so much that she couldn’t even close her mouth.
Sometimes when an infant opens their mouth, it’s not because they’re laughing; it’s really just that they can’t control their muscles.
She had even been rocked until she was drooling…
“Oh, Mother, Mother is back, she’s really back!” Jiang Yu suddenly shouted.
She finally stopped the rocking.
Jiang Mianmian looked into the distance, feeling dizzy.
She saw a strong figure sprinting over. Was the speed a bit too fast?
It was as if a bear were pouncing over.
Jiang Mianmian was startled.
She felt she had been rocked dizzy by her older sister.
She tried hard to reach her eyes with her hands, rubbed them, and opened them again to see the person approaching—it was Mother.
She had indeed been seeing things.
Mother’s figure was now right before them. Oh no, Jiang Mianmian smelled that pungent, heavy scent of blood again, even stronger than last time.
It was so foul, it definitely wasn’t human blood.
Mother must have gone hunting again.
Jiang Mianmian felt a bit guilty. She had fed both Mother and her older brother the spiritual spring water; if their bodies started to change, would they be suspicious?
In this family, only her older sister seemed a bit lacking in intelligence; the others were quite shrewd.
Since she hadn’t heard them say anything, Jiang Mianmian just pretended not to know. Anyway, she was still a baby who couldn’t even speak.
What kind of bad intentions could a baby have?
When Jiang Feng saw Mother coming with a bamboo basket on her back, he stood up to help her take it.
Qin Luoxia hurriedly refused.
“You’re still injured, don’t move.”
The bamboo basket was extremely, extremely heavy. That giant python was truly heavy, and she was worried about crushing her son’s small frame.
Besides, her son was still injured.
Jiang Feng felt that he had truly mutated because, just a moment ago while lying on the bamboo chair, he had casually picked up some stones to test it.
Except for those round pebbles that he couldn’t crush, he could throw them incredibly far—he even felt he could use them as weapons to hit prey—and he could crush irregular stones if he exerted force.
This certainly wasn’t the strength a normal person could have.
He dared not expose it casually; it would be hard to explain.
Besides, he was still injured; once he recovered, perhaps his strength would be even greater.
However, when he saw Mother returning with the bamboo basket on her back, he stood up to help instinctively.
Mother and son grabbed the bamboo basket at the same time.
They tugged.
At the same time, there was a sense of surprise, strangeness, and composure.
They tugged again.
Jiang Feng let go, and Qin Luoxia held onto it.
It was a very ordinary process.
Jiang Yu didn’t even notice.
Jiang Mianmian hadn’t really cared either, but for some reason, seeing the strange aura between Mother and her older brother in that instant felt like watching a black bear tugging with a wolf.
What kind of hallucination was she having in broad daylight?
She felt she might have drunk too much spiritual spring water.
It was clearly just Mother and her older brother.
She called out, “Iya yayaya.”
Mother and her older brother both looked over at the same time.
The smile on Mother’s face was warmer and gentler than usual.
Her older brother’s smile was even more honest and simple.
“Iya iya.” Jiang Mianmian danced with joy.
