Chapter 223: Today Really Is a Good Day
Qiao Yabin was furious!
Didn’t you say that at the main factory no one should call you “Director”?
Didn’t you say that the Huaihua branch was just a workshop, nothing worth bragging about?!
Then why do you let me call you “Little Director Su”?
Isn’t this just a double standard—letting the official set fires but forbidding common folk to light lamps?!
“Old Qiao, you think I’m being two-faced? Honestly, I’ve got no choice!
The Huaihua branch might be equivalent to a workshop, but it still carries the title of a branch. It has to have a director, doesn’t it?!
To keep people from mixing me up with Director Feng, I just added a ‘little’ in front. That way, no one will misunderstand.”
Su He then turned to Director Kong and the others: “Doesn’t that sound reasonable?”
Director Kong and the others: “…”
Do we dare say otherwise?!
Everyone present was a shrewd old hand, and of course they understood—Su He was putting Qiao Yabin in his place. So they all just smiled politely without answering.
Su He carried on: “Old Qiao, I know why the director asked you to come here. He just wants you to be more attentive in the future, report diligently, right?”
Qiao Yabin: “…”
Aren’t these things you’re only supposed to think? How could you blurt them out loud like that?!
Before he could reply, Su He pressed on: “Director Kong, tell me, compared with Old Qiao, where are my strengths?”
Director Kong: “…”
Why me, in front of so many people?
But recalling Su He’s usual style, Director Kong could only force himself to say: “Little Su, you’re young and promising, courageous, capable. You personally built up the headwear business, so naturally the Huaihua branch needs you as its top leader!”
Su He nodded and turned to the head of security, Director Fan: “And you?”
Director Fan: “…Director Kong is right. Little Su, though you’re young, you’ve got the drive of youth. Plus you understand foreign trade. Only you are fit to head the Huaihua branch.”
Su He nodded again, then looked at Director Hong from procurement: “Director Hong, you used to be Old Qiao’s superior. What do you think?”
Director Hong, unwilling to see his old subordinate outshine him, still forced a smile: “Little Su, no need to say more! The votes speak for themselves. You becoming the branch director is the will of the people!”
One by one, Su He asked, and everyone was forced to give her empty praise.
Then she turned back to Qiao Yabin: “Old Qiao, did you hear the voice of the masses?
I’ve no other intention, really—just don’t want you to take it the wrong way or feel burdened.
Oh, and since the director asked you to report more often, just chat with him more. I don’t mind in the least.”
Qiao Yabin: “…”
Now he understood. Whatever Director Feng’s original purpose, Director Kong and the others were clearly all on Su He’s side.
If he followed Feng’s orders, he’d probably be finished at the textile factory.
Forcing a laugh, he said: “Little Director Su, what are you saying? You’re my superior, how could I bypass you and report over your head?! Matters of the Huaihua branch still go by your word.”
Su He smiled: “Good. In that case, get started according to the schedule here.”
She pulled a few sheets of paper from her small bag and handed them over. At the top it read: Huaihua Branch Textile Factory Opening Progress Schedule.
Qiao Yabin and the others: “…”
Hadn’t she only just been appointed?
Why did she already have a detailed progress plan—pages long?!
That sort of thing couldn’t be written in a day or two.
Thinking back over recent events, they finally realized—Su He had been plotting this all along!
Step by step she’d dug a pit, and now they had all fallen in.
Worse still, while trapped in the pit, they’d even helped her drag in more people!
Qiao Yabin’s heart went cold.
With this kind of scheming and method, how could he ever beat her?!
And Feng still thought he could use him to take away her power, to sideline her? What a joke!
If he tried, he wouldn’t even know how he died.
“Little Director Su, don’t worry. I’ll carry out the schedule and report to you at once.”
Only then did Su He nod in satisfaction. She gave the orders, Old Qiao did the grunt work—that was how a director and deputy director should operate.
After a few polite words, she walked off with her hands behind her back.
The thorn of the textile factory—Su He—had made her name in a single battle!
Once she was gone, the others all gave Qiao Yabin sympathetic looks.
You want to scheme against her? That’s like bargaining with a tiger!
Qiao Yabin was on the verge of tears. Was it still too late to resign as deputy director?
Meanwhile, Su He hummed a little tune as she walked to the food factory.
“Secretary Su, you’re here?”
“Secretary Su, that white dress looks great on you—just like a movie star!”
“Secretary Su, can you stay a little longer today? I’ve got some questions to ask.”
…
Peeking out from his office doorway, Director Tian felt a pang of jealousy.
People say, “New king, new courtiers.” But he hadn’t even stepped down yet, and already his people were currying favor with the heir apparent!
When Su He strolled into his office, Director Tian was back behind his desk. Sour inside but smiling on the surface—after all, you couldn’t offend the heir.
“Little Su, all dressed up so pretty—meeting someone for a movie tonight?”
At that thought, inspiration struck him.
This girl wasn’t interested in university, but maybe she could be distracted with romance!
A young woman in love would pour all her energy into her boyfriend and wouldn’t have the mind to usurp power anymore!
He admired his own brilliance—who else could come up with such a clever plan?
“Little Su, you don’t have a boyfriend yet, right? Want me to introduce you? I know lots of excellent young men, both from An County and the provincial capital. Guaranteed you’ll find one you like!”
Su He blushed and smiled: “Director, I already have a boyfriend.”
Director Tian froze: “You do? How long have you been dating?”
“Not long. We kept in touch before, but only recently made it official.”
Director Tian brightened—recently? That meant she’d soon be hopelessly smitten!
Heaven itself was helping him!
He didn’t even bother asking about the boyfriend’s background. Just knowing she had one was enough.
Today really was a good day!
He was still basking in the thought when Su He added cheerfully: “Director, I came to tell you some good news.”
“What good news?” he asked with a broad smile.
“The textile factory held a meeting this morning and appointed me director of the Huaihua branch!”
His smile froze on his face.
“What did you say?”
Su He repeated herself.
Director Tian thought Director Feng must have lost his mind!
Making Su He a branch director? He’d have done better to keep her as a secretary—secretaries had no real power.
But a branch director was different!
Especially since Su He was a local of the Huaihua commune—wouldn’t that make the Huaihua branch entirely her domain?!
