Chapter 152: Comrade Ning Is Too Amazing… I’m Not Worthy!
That afternoon, Ning Xiyue and Chen Yechu walked together — Ning Xiyue was headed to the clinic, and Chen Yechu was too. Of course, her purpose was to pick up some Chinese medicinal herbs for her master, Old Man Chen, who had caught a cold. She planned to decoct the medicine there before bringing it back.
The old man didn’t trust Western medicine and only took traditional remedies. Since Chen Yechu’s Western medicines were useless, she had no choice but to ask Ning Xiyue for help. So, when Ning Xiyue went to the clinic, she simply tagged along.
Whether it was because Chen Yechu had the typical “female lead’s trouble magnet” aura, or because she herself was cursed with terrible luck — or perhaps both — they didn’t get far before trouble found them.
Ning Xiyue was in the middle of explaining how to properly brew the medicine when two unpleasant figures appeared ahead.
It was Wu Laogen and Li Cuihua — the couple who had just finalized their divorce.
Wu Laogen looked unhappy but somewhat relieved. All he wanted now was a peaceful life without gossip or drama, away from the villagers’ scrutiny.
Li Cuihua, on the other hand, was crying as she walked. Gone was her former arrogance and pride — her face was now filled with fear and confusion about the future.
As they passed Ning Xiyue and Chen Yechu, Li Cuihua shot them a venomous glare and spat bitterly, “What are you looking at? Are you happy now? You forced us into this! Are you satisfied? We’re divorced — just like you wanted!”
“If you put it that way, then yes, I am happy. I wish you a lonely old age — with no one to rely on and nowhere to call home.”
Ning Xiyue’s lips curved into a cold, radiant smile as she uttered the vicious words in an almost casual tone.
Li Cuihua shook with anger, which only made Ning Xiyue’s smile deepen.
She wasn’t about to indulge Li Cuihua’s foul temper. Like mother, like daughter — both of them lashed out blindly, venting their frustration and slinging accusations at whoever was nearby.
Chen Yechu wasn’t about to back down either. Rolling her eyes, she shot back sharply, “Who’s looking at you, you ugly hag? Your divorce has nothing to do with us. Don’t go dumping your crap on our heads. Your whole family’s insane — barking all day long. My dog’s more obedient than you. Come on, bark again.”
“Ahh! You little bitches! I’ll tear your mouths apart!”
Completely losing her mind, the freshly divorced Li Cuihua forgot that Ning Xiyue was not someone she could provoke — and that Chen Yechu wasn’t one to go easy either.
Like a madwoman, she lunged at them, swinging wildly in an attempt to vent her divorce rage and humiliation.
“So obedient,” Chen Yechu muttered with a click of her tongue, pulling out the trusty brick she’d learned to carry from Ning Xiyue. Her expression looked almost excited.
“Li Cuihua, that’s enough! Haven’t you embarrassed yourself enough? If you’re going to fight, then fight properly!”
Wu Laogen yelled from a short distance away — but made no move to stop her. In fact, he seemed to be egging her on.
He let Li Cuihua act out however she wanted. Now that they were divorced, her trouble wouldn’t implicate him.
Deep down, Wu Laogen harbored resentment toward Ning Xiyue, Chen Yechu, and the other educated youths. After all, their family had been caught and humiliated because of them, and everything that had happened since was, in his mind, their fault.
Ning Xiyue glanced coldly at Wu Laogen. Then, as Chen Yechu swung the brick and smacked Li Cuihua’s hand away — purposely driving her stumbling right into Ning Xiyue’s reach — the furious woman, seeing that Ning Xiyue held no weapon, reached out her claws again.
Ning Xiyue raised an eyebrow and gave Wu Laogen a meaningful smile. “I’ll send you two on your way.”
The words made Wu Laogen’s breath hitch — an inexplicable fear rising in his chest.
With a flick of her wrist, Ning Xiyue whipped out her own “phantom” brick and gently smacked the lunging Li Cuihua — sending her flying.
“Ahhh—!”
Li Cuihua screamed as she soared through the air.
Wu Laogen’s eyes widened in horror as he realized her landing trajectory — directly toward him. He tried to run, but unfortunately, his reaction time was no match for gravity.
BANG!
Li Cuihua crashed into Wu Laogen.
“AHHH—!”
The force of the impact sent them both toppling backward — straight into a nearby manure pit filled with half-liquid, half-solid pig dung. The muck exploded upwards like a foul fountain before raining back down and coating them from head to toe.
“Ah… ugh… cough…”
The pig manure had saved their lives, raining down like a twisted blessing. It even “sacrificed itself” to enter their wide-open mouths, sliding gracefully down their throats into the acidic sea of their stomachs.
“Cough cough—”
“Gag—GURGH—”
“Want to fight me? Try again in your next life.” Ning Xiyue stared coldly at the two of them, now lying in the pit, wheezing, coughing, and dry-heaving.
The pain in their bodies left them unable to move, lying helplessly in the filth.
Chen Yechu walked over and stared down at the scene — the two of them looked like corpses buried in a manure grave, their bodies unrecognizable under the thick coating of pig dung. They were even filthier than Xia Zhipeng had been.
Her stomach churned violently, and she barely held back the urge to vomit — until she ran right up to the edge of the pit and let it all out.
“Uuurrgh—”
Only after vomiting all over the motionless pair did she feel satisfied. She returned to Ning Xiyue’s side and together, they admired their “masterpiece.”
A young man who had been spreading fertilizer in the field had witnessed the entire scene. His eyes were wide as he muttered, stunned, “These two educated youths are way too fierce… Comrade Ning is terrifying — absolutely terrifying.”
That young man’s name was Zhang Jianguo — one of Ning Xiyue’s admirers. Back when she had captured a wild boar, he had deeply admired her. And over time, he had grown fonder of her.
But now, after seeing this… every ounce of courage he had to confess his feelings evaporated.
He definitely didn’t want to be sent flying and dumped into a manure pit.
Just the thought of his tiny crush on Comrade Ning made his body tremble. He slapped himself twice and tearfully whispered,
“Comrade Ning is far too amazing… I’m not worthy!”
