Chapter 132: A Thrilling Noon
“Alright.” Ning Qingyuan wasn’t afraid of anything. Even though Ning Xiyue had only been joking, he still cheerfully agreed and obediently sat down on the back seat.
One dared to say it, and the other dared to do it.
Ning Xiyue suddenly lost her nerve and waved her hands repeatedly. “Brother, no, I was just joking. If we fall, we’ll both crash together.”
“We won’t. You just ride. With my weight in the back, it’ll be more stable and less likely to tip over. I’m heavy to carry — it won’t fall.” He’d even thought it through: if she really did lose control, he could use his feet to help steady them.
Feeling his confidence only made Ning Xiyue more anxious. With her strength — from bricks, Taichi, and the energy potion — she had more than enough power to carry her brother with ease.
“Then I’ll only take you on flat ground. Nowhere else. I’m still a bit scared.”
“Okay.”
Once they’d agreed, excitement bubbled up in Ning Xiyue’s chest. “Brother, hold on tight. Your sister’s strong now — let’s go!”
Easily carrying Ning Qingyuan behind her, she started pedaling and shot forward — fast.
The sudden burst of speed made Qingyuan lurch forward with the basket in his arms. Only then did he fully believe that his sister was indeed very strong.
Feeling the rush of life and death at top speed, he couldn’t help but respect her strength. He obediently strapped the basket to his back and grabbed tightly onto the bike’s support bar under the seat, staring tensely ahead.
He gave a friendly reminder: “Sis, you can slow down. We’re not in a hurry. I’m not even that hungry yet.”
“Okay, I’ll slow down.” Ning Xiyue obediently reduced their speed and started pedaling more gently.
Feeling the bike slow down, Ning Qingyuan quietly wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. He decided then and there that he would never ride with his sister again — too terrifying.
“Brother, hold tight, we’re going downhill.”
Still not recovered from earlier, Qingyuan immediately snapped into high alert, gripping the bar with both hands.
If she was that fast on flat ground, he didn’t even want to imagine how fast she’d go downhill.
“Slow—! I mean, sis— use the brakes, don’t coast— br—”
The last word was carried away by the wind.
It took less than a second for Qingyuan to understand just how fast downhill really was.
He shouted with all his might into the rushing wind.
“Oh, okay, got it, don’t worry.” Ning Xiyue lightly tapped the brakes — though not much.
She knew that if she braked too hard all of a sudden, the wheels wouldn’t adapt and they’d flip over.
The slope was steep — and Qingyuan, sitting in the back, felt his heart leap into his throat, terrified they’d go flying. He craned his neck to look ahead.
“Sis, there’s a turn ahead, pay attention!”
“Got it. Brother, hold on tight.”
It was her first time going downhill and making a turn, and she’d be lying if she said she wasn’t nervous. Her palms were drenched in sweat. But outwardly, she looked composed, which calmed Qingyuan a little — he figured his sister had things under control.
But sometimes, that confidence comes too early. As they approached the turn, a cow suddenly appeared — the team’s big yellow ox, for some reason, had wandered right into their path.
The massive animal completely blocked the road. They couldn’t just crash into it — it was too valuable, and they’d lose that battle anyway.
They were about to collide.
Both Ning Xiyue and Ning Qingyuan’s eyes widened.
“Sis, steer right, avoid it, don’t panic!”
“Got it.”
The closer they got, the calmer Ning Xiyue became. With a steady hand, she sharply turned the handlebars to the right. The bicycle skimmed past the cow’s side with barely a centimeter to spare and continued downhill to the right.
But this was just the start of the danger — a new challenge. The right side was a slope with no clear path. They’d have to carve their own road with the bike.
“Ahhhhh—!”
“Brother, don’t worry! As long as you hold on, we’ll be fine!”
Ning Xiyue focused her Taichi-trained inner strength into protecting them both.
Gritting her teeth, she held the handlebars firmly and steered them down the steep incline on this wild, exhilarating ride.
Ning Qingyuan clutched tightly at her clothes and closed his eyes. Since he was terrified anyway, he might as well shut his eyes and leave his fate to his sister.
For several long minutes, they danced on the knife’s edge between life and death.
Finally, they reached the bottom of the slope. Ning Xiyue started thinking about how to slow down and stop.
She spotted a large haystack ahead — an opportunity.
“Screech— skrrt—”
The tires squealed as they rubbed against the ground, slowing them down. They successfully stopped beside the haystack.
“Ah~”
“Ah—!”
Just as Ning Xiyue was about to breathe a sigh of relief and get off the bike, two shrill screams rang out — not from her brother, but from a man and a woman.
She turned her head and saw Wang Fenglan and Li Jiandang hugging each other in front of the haystack, their faces pale with fright.
When her gaze met theirs, the two scrambled apart, dropping their hands in a panic.
Well… this was awkward. What an unlucky coincidence to stumble upon such a compromising scene. She supposed she should be grateful they were only hugging — if they’d been rolling around, she’d need eye bleach.
Ning Xiyue rubbed her nose and forced an awkward smile. “Carry on, carry on. I didn’t see anything.”
She quickly sat back down, placed her feet on the pedals, and started the bike. “Brother, hold on. Let’s go.”
“Yeah, hurry up, let’s go eat.” Ning Qingyuan, equally embarrassed, urged her to ride faster. All the fear from their near-death experience had vanished.
No matter what those two behind them were thinking or how embarrassed they felt, Ning Xiyue’s bike shot off again. Before they even had time to react, the siblings were already far away.
Once they were well clear of that awkward scene, both Ning Xiyue and Ning Qingyuan let out a long sigh.
Qingyuan patted his still-pounding heart, which had been racing the entire noon. “Sis, you can slow down now. Let’s take it easy.”
