Chapter 26: Live Broadcast — The Demon King Eats Someone
Qin Yuexuan looked calmly at the newcomer and frowned slightly. “Why are you here?”
Zui Li Yue shrieked, “If I hadn’t come, how would I have seen the two of you being all lovey-dovey!”
Qin Yuexuan pulled her into his arms, wrapping an arm around her waist. “Good Yue’er, don’t make a fuss. I came here to humiliate this woman—how could I possibly be all lovey-dovey with her? She’s nothing but a ruined flower. How could she compare to you in the slightest?”
Nan Xun sighed inwardly. Women really were strange creatures. She watched as a smile immediately bloomed on Zui Li Yue’s little face, and she shyly hugged Qin Yuexuan. “Brother Xuan, is what you said true?”
“Of course it’s true.” Qin Yuexuan smiled, hooked her chin, and lowered his head to kiss her.
Nan Xun looked away, pretending not to see anything. Unexpectedly, this seemed to stimulate the two of them even more—their movements grew increasingly wanton, moans spilling out nonstop, nearly staging a live erotic scene right in front of her.
Nan Xun’s expression didn’t change at all. She even had the leisure to stare blankly at the stars in the night sky.
At some point, the lewd sounds stopped. When Nan Xun looked back, only Zui Li Yue remained.
She had originally been a sweet and pretty beauty, but jealousy had twisted her face into something particularly ferocious.
“Zui Li Xuan, let me tell you—stay far away from Cousin Xuan! In your current state, you’re not even fit to carry his shoes!” Zui Li Yue spat out these harsh words, then sneered and walked away.
Nan Xun sighed. “Do I really look like someone desperate to cling to powerful thighs?”
The Void Beast replied, “To rise from a junior Grand Mystic Master to a mid-level Mystic King in just a few years—this Qin Yuexuan truly is a once-in-a-generation genius.”
Nan Xun gave a noncommittal “oh,” gazed at the night sky, and grew drowsy again.
What exactly was wrong with her? Why did her body feel weaker and weaker?
Unknowingly, two months passed. It was said that chaos had erupted in the Demon Realm during these two months. The five great human clans, together with the divine beasts led by the Azure Dragon, seized the opportunity to attack. Leaderless, the demon beasts retreated again and again, until they were finally forced back to the summit of the Demon Realm. Only by activating the great defensive formation laid down by the Demon King were they able to halt further attacks from the humans and divine beasts.
The demon beasts soon realized that the Demon Realm’s defensive layout map had been stolen—there was a traitor among them!
Very quickly, they thought of the human woman the Demon King had taken as his wife. All accusations were instantly directed at Zui Li Xuan, daughter of the Zui Li clan head.
Listening to the Void Beast’s live report, Nan Xun felt so wronged she nearly spat out a mouthful of blood.
Damn it—why did every single blame land on her?
Thinking it over, she figured the defensive layout map had likely been stolen by her aunt, Zui Li Lan Xin, and given to the Zui Li clan. As for the severe poison in the Demon King’s body, no matter how hard she thought, she couldn’t figure out who had done it. With Xue Ming’s vigilance, no one should have been able to get close to him.
“Forget it. I’m going to get eaten by the Demon King anyway—if I have to take the blame, so be it,” Nan Xun said, taking it all in stride.
The Void Beast suddenly asked, “Do you know why this divine beast chose you in the first place?”
Nan Xun lazily yawned. “Because I’m devastatingly beautiful?”
The Void Beast fell silent for a moment, then spoke with unprecedented seriousness. “You seem carefree and easygoing, able to get along with anyone, but in truth you’re someone who doesn’t easily give your heart, who can sleep like a dead pig even if the sky collapses. However, once you truly care about something, you’ll give it everything you have—your persistence is terrifying. People like you tend to have a very high success rate when it comes to missions.”
“Aww, why are you suddenly praising me? You’re making me embarrassed,” Nan Xun said coyly, covering her face.
Void Beast: …
So everything it said before was automatically ignored?
“Little Eight, I’m really not dying of cancer or something, am I? I keep feeling like my body’s been hollowed out, like I’m about to run out of oil and my lamp’s about to go out,” Nan Xun said, clutching her chest.
She tilted her head slightly, propping it up with one hand. Her once ethereal face had lost all color, pale as paper.
This time, the Void Beast was silent for a long while. “Actually, I suspect you’ve been—”
Before it could finish, the Void Beast sensed something and abruptly changed its tone. “Holy crap! The Demon King has broken out of the Dragon Clan’s supreme treasure, the Nine-Heart Demon-Binding Prison, and has escaped!”
Nan Xun’s chest stopped hurting, her head stopped aching. With a trembling heart, she asked, “They say the Demon King was tortured terribly by the Dragon Beast clan while imprisoned. Little Eight, is there any way for me to see what he’s like now?”
The Void Beast’s tone turned strange. “Do you really want to see?”
Nan Xun nodded vigorously. It would at least help her prepare herself mentally.
“The Demon King is on his way back to the sleeping palace. I’ll give you a live broadcast right now.”
As soon as the Void Beast finished speaking, Nan Xun felt her eyes grow warm. Then she “saw” the Demon King’s sleeping palace.
“Why is there a woman inside the palace who looks exactly like me?” Nan Xun exclaimed in shock, but quickly understood.
Not just anyone could break through the Demon King’s barrier, so the woman inside was most likely Hong Chou. She must have used some secret technique to transform herself into Nan Xun’s likeness.
But didn’t Hong Chou know that the Demon Realm had been turned upside down? Or was she afraid that once she left the sleeping palace, she’d never be able to return—so she hadn’t stepped out in these two months and knew nothing of what was happening outside?
Nan Xun had no time to think further, because the palace suddenly shook. Space twisted violently, and a tall man in black robes appeared directly inside.
Nan Xun was startled.
Even wrapped in black robes, he couldn’t conceal the countless wounds covering his body. He was drenched in blood. Several whip marks marred his once peerlessly handsome face, cutting so deep they reached the bone—flesh torn open, white bone faintly visible. Paired with those blood-red eyes brimming with bone-deep hatred, he looked like an evil ghost risen from a sea of blood.
The “Zui Li Xuan” inside the palace was so frightened that her face turned pale. She staggered back a few steps and said in terror, “Y-Your Majesty, how did you end up like this?”
The Demon King’s hate-filled blood-red eyes locked onto “Zui Li Xuan.” In the next instant, they turned into vertical crimson pupils!
He suddenly opened his mouth, revealing two sharp venomous fangs on his gums. His mouth opened wider and wider, and in the blink of an eye, it became an enormous serpent’s head!
A long snake tongue shot out, instantly grabbing “Zui Li Xuan” into that gaping, bloody maw. First her head disappeared into the mouth, then her body, and finally her feet—one shoe still fallen off—were swallowed whole.
Everything happened within one or two seconds.
The image cut off.
Nan Xun grabbed the table beside her, bent over, and opened her mouth.
She vomited—violently.
Seeing the Demon King eat someone with her own eyes for the first time, Nan Xun felt everything in her stomach churn. She even threw up the food from the night before.
“Calm down, calm down—it wasn’t you who got eaten,” the Void Beast comforted her.
Nan Xun clutched her stomach, on the verge of tears. “The one he wants to eat is me. It’s me!”
