Chapter 10: Come On—Let’s Hurt Each Other
“Sweetheart, please stop talking. Let me be alone for a bit,” Nan Xun said. She really didn’t want to hear any more—she felt that if she kept listening, she’d end up slapping herself to death first.
“Try to think positively. What’s done is done,” the Void Beast advised.
Suddenly thinking of something, Nan Xun accused it at once. “You knew all along that the long-eared rabbit was the Demon King, yet you didn’t warn me?”
The Void Beast cleared its throat lightly. “I didn’t expect the Demon King to be this powerful either. If I’d spoken up, he definitely would’ve discovered me.”
“So you just stood by and watched me kill myself over and over?” Nan Xun said gloomily.
“I didn’t just stand by and watch,” the Void Beast replied. “I took advantage of this time to study knowledge from your world. I’m a Void Beast that keeps up with the times, hehe.”
Nan Xun: “Sweetheart, have you really never considered showing yourself?”
The Void Beast snorted. “Do you think I’m as dumb as you? Show myself just so you can beat me up?”
Nan Xun: “…Sweetheart, you’re really smart.”
“Luckily, the Demon King attached himself to a long-eared rabbit, not something like a little wild boar,” Nan Xun said, patting her chest in relief.
“What’s the difference?” the Void Beast asked, puzzled.
“If it were a little wild boar, I wouldn’t be raising it—I’d have roasted it and eaten it already.”
Void Beast: …
Suddenly remembering something, Nan Xun pinched her fingers and did a quick calculation, then cried out in alarm. “Little Eight, tomorrow seems to be the last day! Oh no, oh no—I’m going to be swallowed alive by the Demon King tomorrow!”
The Void Beast gave a hum in response.
“I think we should just go straight to the next world,” Nan Xun suggested very seriously.
The Void Beast immediately replied, “Never give up until the very last moment. I believe in you~”
After saying that, the Void Beast went back to playing dead.
No matter how passionately Nan Xun called out to it, the Void Beast stubbornly kept pretending to be dead.
Nan Xun had hoped she could stay holed up at home tomorrow as well, but clearly her wish was doomed to fail. Early the next morning, a large group of people arrived at her small courtyard with great fanfare.
As the daughter of the family head, her private courtyard was already quite spacious, but once this crowd arrived, it instantly felt much more cramped.
Several elders walked in front, followed by her parents, then a whole swarm of uncles, aunts, cousins, brothers, sisters, servants, and attendants.
Nan Xun had no idea what was going on. She only felt that the gazes of the old men at the front were bright enough to eat people alive, while her parents looked like they were on the verge of tears.
After the elders solemnly explained the matter, Nan Xun was still a little dazed.
The Demon Beast King had actually sent a minor demon to deliver a message, saying that he would send people tomorrow to fetch the bride.
Originally, this political marriage had been nothing more than wishful thinking on the part of the great families. They planned to put the person in a bridal sedan and send her straight to the entrance of the Demon Domain, after which it would depend on whether the Demon King was willing to accept the bride.
No one had expected that upon learning of this, the Demon King would actually take the initiative to send people to welcome the bride!
Didn’t this mean that the Demon King was quite satisfied with the chosen bride?
Nan Xun finally let out a breath of relief, feeling a little excited. “Little Eight, the Demon King is only coming to get me tomorrow. Does that mean I won’t be eaten today? I’ve changed Zui Li Xuan’s fate of being eaten!”
The Void Beast snickered. “Congratulations. But who knows—maybe you’ll be eaten tomorrow instead? Have you forgotten all those outrageous things you did to the Demon King?”
Nan Xun: …
“Heh, sweetheart—if I get eaten, your merit points will be gone too,” she said. Come on, let’s hurt each other.
The Void Beast immediately wilted.
