Chapter 57: Lighting Up
As the speed of the spinning wheel gradually slowed down, Ning Xiyue’s heart rose to her throat. She stared at the pointer intently as it moved bit by bit.
It slid past the industrial vouchers section, then gave a slight wobble and landed on the next section — strawberry seedlings…
“Come on… just a little more…”
Ning Xiyue’s eyes were practically glued to the pointer. She wished she could reach out and nudge it over to the cherry tree section herself. This slow creeping movement was torture.
Finally, the pointer stopped — right on the thin dividing line between the cherry tree and strawberry seedlings sections.
Was this thing serious?
Don’t be ridiculous.
But the pointer had indeed come to a complete stop, firmly planted on the black line separating the two areas.
Ning Xiyue couldn’t accept this. Pointing at the wheel, she looked at the little turtle with burning eyes. “System, how does this count? Since it’s on the line, does that mean the entire wheel is mine?”
The little turtle couldn’t help but complain, “Out of so many sections you could’ve landed on, you just had to land on the line. I finally understand why you were the one who got hit by that jumper.”
Ouch, that stung.
One hand clutching her wounded heart, Ning Xiyue stretched the other tremblingly toward the turtle. Her gaze dimmed.
“Don’t mention the jumper… we’re still good partners.”
Damn it, now she was thinking again about that mushroom rice bowl she had paid for but never got to eat.
System No. 3333 knew its host was acting again and played along, stretching out one turtle leg. “Host, I’m not just your partner. I’m your golden thigh.”
Ning Xiyue disdainfully pushed its paw away, “Please don’t. I don’t want athlete’s foot.”
System No. 3333 condensed two digital tears and let them hang from its bean-sized eyes. It stretched out a paw pitifully: “I want to lodge a complaint. The moment you got me, you started despising me. I’m no longer your most beloved baby. I’m so sad… so heartbroken~”
Hands on her hips, Ning Xiyue snorted arrogantly. “My baby can give me the entire wheel. Can you?”
Unable to outsmart its host, System No.3333 immediately became serious again, regaining its cold and aloof demeanor.
“Ding. According to the lottery system’s judgment, this draw is invalid. The host may spin again.”
“Ding. If the pointer lands on the dividing line, you may redraw up to three times. After three times, no more spins are allowed, and no prizes will be awarded.”
Ning Xiyue huffed lightly. “Fine. You’re still my baby.”
Having secured another chance to spin, Ning Xiyue was delighted. She rubbed her hands together and started the lottery again. No way she’d have such bad luck twice in a row.
The pointer started spinning… and stopped on the line again.
Ning Xiyue hadn’t expected the slap in the face to come so quickly — her cheeks felt hot.
“One more time. I refuse to believe this.”
She gave the wheel a casual spin. This time, the pointer stopped quickly.
“Tears of joy! That was tough.” Ning Xiyue’s eyes were full of emotion as she watched the pointer stop on cherry sapling. “Good things really do come after a struggle.”
“Ding. Congratulations, Host, you’ve drawn cherry sapling. It has been placed in your system backpack. Please plant it promptly.”
Even System No.3333 was happy for her — finally, no more landing on dividing lines.
Ning Xiyue took out the cherry sapling she had finally won after such a dramatic lottery session and examined it.
A one-year-old sapling, Lapins variety.
“God of Wealth is really looking out for me,” she murmured, gently stroking the plant.
Her eyes drifted back to the remaining prizes on the wheel. Her heart started itching again.
“System, do I get a spin every time I achieve ‘Excellent’ on an assignment?”
Could she possibly farm lottery chances by doing lots of exercises?
Ding! [Each exercise that achieves an ‘Excellent’ result will only trigger one lottery spin. Achieving a perfect 100 will trigger a super lottery, with richer and more luxurious prizes. Please keep up the good work.]
A little disappointing… but acceptable.
Ning Xiyue remembered that she hadn’t triggered the lottery from the first lesson’s exercise yet, so she carefully put the sapling away and eagerly went to the simulation room for that exercise.
As soon as she entered, she started weaving a vegetable basket. After who knew how long, she finally triggered the lottery again.
“God of Wealth, please bless me with something. Anything will do.”
Possessed by the God of Wealth, Ning Xiyue spun the wheel. Perhaps the deity hadn’t left since last time, because with double blessings, she won on the very first try — and it was a Great Unity prize under the God of Wealth’s domain.
“These 150 yuan — I’m going to enshrine them. This is money blessed by the God of Wealth.”
Ning Xiyue beamed as she caressed the money in her hand, feeling as if she was radiating wealth herself.
The little turtle rolled its eyes. “Host, your devotion to deities is really something.”
After two draws, Ning Xiyue calmed herself and took out a book titled Postpartum Care for Sows to read.
Despite its name, the book actually contained three sections:
1. How to properly care for a sow during pregnancy.
2. How to assist in sow delivery.
3. The largest section — how to care for sows after birth and how to look after piglets.
It covered everything from pregnancy to feeding, providing full protection throughout the process.
Accepting her fate, Ning Xiyue started studying the first section. If she wanted to eat meat, she had to work for it.
After finishing one chapter, she had learned quite a few practical and simple pig feed recipes for pregnant sows.
Only after finishing all the content of the first section did she put the book down.
But she didn’t stop studying. She picked up a high school math textbook next and continued reading.
After completing the two chapters she had set for herself for the day, she put it away.
She then did a set of eye exercises to relieve the fatigue from studying math. Finally, she took out a Herbal Compendium to refresh her mind with the illustrated content.
Flipping through the pages quickly, she skimmed past what she had already learned until she stopped at the page on Han Xin Grass.
“Huh? Why did the photo of Han Xin Grass change from black-and-white to color?”
Ning Xiyue reached out and touched the picture. Unexpectedly, her finger pressed down on a raised “button,” sinking into the page.
“Ding. Han Xin Grass has been lit up. You have obtained: one scroll of Han Xin Grass processing methods and one set of herb processing tools.”
As the system’s voice fell, the items appeared in her backpack.
Ning Xiyue took out the roll of parchment and found that it contained various methods for processing Han Xin Grass, each accompanied by a study link.
Among them, the recipe for a salve that treated mosquito bites caught her eye the most.
There were many mosquitoes in the countryside, and getting bitten was inevitable.
She had several itchy red bumps on her body right now — all from mountain mosquitoes that had attacked her while she was sitting under a tree watching drama unfold.
They itched like crazy.
If she learned how to make this salve, she’d never have to worry about mosquito bites again while eating melon seeds and watching the show.
