Chapter 245: Trouble
No one could understand why Xu Youyou, who had seemed to hesitate just a moment ago, suddenly became so eager.
Shen Wenxing had to explain, “Youyou, I just feel that this technology is more suited for you to operate and profit from. You shouldn’t feel burdened.”
Xu Youyou shook her head vigorously. “I don’t feel burdened. I trust you, Aunt Shen. You wouldn’t deceive me. As a friend, I certainly won’t deceive you either. I’ll offer you a fair price. Just agree to it.”
Shen Wenxing looked into the sincere eyes of the young woman before her and finally nodded, “Alright.”
Xu Youyou saw the system prompt saying the task had been completed, and she breathed a sigh of relief. Curiosity got the better of her, and she couldn’t help but ask, “Aunt Shen, were you planning to sell this technology to foreigners? A French person?”
Shen Wenxing nodded, then shook her head. “Yes, it was supposed to be sold to a foreigner, but the agreed location was Paris. I had promised to sell it to him last year, but I couldn’t find the time to travel abroad, and he couldn’t come to China to finalize the deal.”
“Then why did the deal fail?” Xu Youyou asked, very curious.
Shen Wenxing replied, “People’s hearts change. I thought he was serious about the transaction, but it turns out it was all a scheme.”
Xu Youyou suddenly remembered the robbery incident involving Shen Wenxing and her nephew right after they had landed at the airport. “Could the robbery have been part of this person’s scheme?”
Shen Wenxing nodded.
What she didn’t mention was that the buyer Xu Youyou was referring to wasn’t someone she had personally selected.
“Youyou, don’t blame me for treating you as a lifeline. We can discuss the price; I won’t ask for an unreasonable amount,” Shen Wenxing said.
Xu Youyou waved her hand. “Aunt Shen, you’re underestimating both me and yourself. How could the technology you have be anything less than excellent?”
Shen Wenxing’s eyes softened. Although she had only interacted with Xu Youyou a few times, each time she felt incredibly comfortable.
If it weren’t for someone coming to find her for preparation before her speech at the meeting, Shen Wenxing would have loved to chat with Xu Youyou for a little longer.
After Shen Wenxing left, Lu Jingyao, seeing that Shen Juan’an was still standing by Xu Youyou’s side, couldn’t help but ask, “Mr. Shen, don’t you need to provide personal protection for Mrs. Shen?”
Shen Juan’an replied, “I’m off today. Someone else is protecting her.”
Xu Youyou was puzzled. “When we were in Paris, there was only you with Mrs. Shen.”
Shen Juan’an replied, “In London, there are others assisting.”
Had Xu Youyou not known that these two were both of impeccable backgrounds, she might have suspected them to be spies.
As more and more people arrived outside the venue, the exchange meeting was about to begin. The three of them stopped chatting outside and entered the main hall.
Xu Youyou marveled at Shen Wenxing’s importance in the scientific community. At this exchange meeting, Shen Wenxing, as a Chinese national, was the first to speak.
Watching the foreign audience around her listening intently to Shen Wenxing’s lecture, Xu Youyou couldn’t help but feel a surge of pride.
After Shen Wenxing finished speaking, the applause was deafening.
Xu Youyou watched as Shen Wenxing, bypassing the white faces that congratulated her, strode toward the three of them.
It was at this moment that she noticed Shen Wenxing’s other security personnel. Some unfamiliar faces were keeping their eyes fixed on Shen Wenxing.
Among these faces were both Chinese and Western ones.
“We didn’t cover any real content, but we managed to bluff them through,” Shen Wenxing said with a mischievous wink at Xu Youyou.
Although Xu Youyou’s English was decent, she had been lost in a sea of technical terms during the lecture. Even though her mind translated the words into Chinese, she still felt completely confused.
Looking around at the other attendees, who were utterly captivated, Xu Youyou had thought Shen Wenxing must have been imparting some incredible skills. She hadn’t expected that even in such a professional setting, things could be pulled off with such a clever deception.
Unable to hold back, she gave Shen Wenxing a thumbs up. “Aunt Shen, you’re amazing!”
To be honest, Shen Wenxing was the most outstanding female elder Xu Youyou had ever met.
Shen Wenxing had her own career, was respected by almost everyone, and had a strong sense of self. Every time Xu Youyou met her, she felt like Shen Wenxing was glowing with brilliance.
Shen Wenxing smiled and said, “Every profession has its expertise. You think I’m amazing because you couldn’t understand it. I heard from Juan’an that Youyou, you’re very good at identifying antiques and cultural relics, even better than many professionals.”
Xu Youyou’s ability to identify antiques came from the system, so she felt a little embarrassed by the praise.
Feeling guilty from the compliment, she quickly changed the subject, asking, “Aunt Shen, I noticed you have foreign security personnel. Were they specially hired?”
Shen Wenxing was taken aback. “No foreign bodyguards…”
Xu Youyou paused. She had caught a glimpse of one of the foreign faces earlier, and it seemed that the person was reaching into his jacket.
Her reflexes were faster than her thoughts, and she immediately grabbed Shen Wenxing and pulled her down to the floor. “Be careful!”
A gunshot rang out.
The main hall was instantly thrown into chaos.
Shen Wenxing reacted swiftly, following Xu Youyou’s lead to avoid danger. She heard the gunfire but was only momentarily startled, quickly returning to a calm expression. It was as if she had experienced such things countless times before and had long since passed through the stages of panic and surprise.
“Dirty bitch from China! Stole our technology!” Xu Youyou heard the shooter’s curses.
She couldn’t help but curse inwardly. The situation abroad was indeed chaotic. Everyone had gone through security checks when entering, so how could there still be firearms?
“Youyou, watch out!” Lu Jingyao suddenly shouted.
Xu Youyou had been distracted for a moment, and her position had become dangerous.
After shouting, Lu Jingyao immediately reached out to pull her to safety, distancing her from Shen Wenxing.
When Xu Youyou turned around, she saw that, at some point, Shen Juan’an had firmly shielded Shen Wenxing.
Gunshots continued to ring out.
It was unclear how much time passed, but eventually, it seemed like the terrorist’s bullets ran out.
The security personnel finally arrived, fully armed, and subdued the terrorist without much effort.
The lunch Xu Youyou had planned was ultimately never eaten.
Shen Juan’an had been shot while protecting Shen Wenxing, with a bullet wound on his left arm.
“I’ve called an ambulance, and I’ve arranged for a doctor. He’ll be sent directly to the hospital for surgery to remove the bullet,” Lu Jingyao said, having made all the necessary arrangements in the shortest time possible.
Shen Wenxing nodded, and everyone moved quickly to the nearest hospital.
Sitting outside the operating room, Shen Wenxing suddenly spoke to Xu Youyou. “The process of my return to the country wasn’t exactly glamorous. I didn’t expect that because of my matters, I would bring trouble to Juan’an.”
