Chapter 384: Beauty Trap
Su Tao jolted upright from the bed, drenched in sweat, clutching her chest while breathing softly.
The sun was already high in the sky, and a certain ghost had long since left.
She sluggishly got out of bed and, catching sight of herself in the mirror, gave her head a few firm pats.
What a terrifying dream…
How could Jiang Yu possibly harm the long-lost little sister he finally found?
If this was some kind of warning from her “premonition” ability, Su Tao was the first to not believe it.
Or… she didn’t dare believe it.
The logic of that dream just didn’t add up.
After freshening up, Su Tao groggily called Shen Wencheng to ask if he was available today to visit the Bone Wings.
She had promised Old Mei yesterday to take him there.
Shen Wencheng hadn’t slept all night—he was still holed up in the lab. When he saw her call, he immediately answered.
After hearing Su Tao’s request, he hesitated before replying:
“I suggest waiting a few days. It seems like the Bone Wings are showing signs of waking up today.”
Su Tao shivered. “Huh?”
That thing had left a serious psychological shadow on her. The mere mention of it waking up sent chills down her spine, like a scene straight out of a horror movie.
Shen Wencheng quickly reassured her:
“Don’t worry—it’s fine. Even if it wakes up, the most dangerous bone wings have already been dismantled, and we’ve injected a lot of suppressants. Even if it opens its eyes, it can’t do anything—it’ll just be able to move its eyeballs. I’m just thinking, since Old Mei is elderly, maybe it’s best to wait until it’s back in a comatose state before he comes to see it.”
Su Tao exhaled in relief. “That makes sense.”
After hanging up, Su Tao was about to inform Old Mei of the schedule change when the ever-energetic Wen Man burst through the door carrying several large bags.
“Tao, heading to work? Quick, give me a hand—this is frozen beef and seafood. My dad went through a lot of trouble to get these from all over the place. Have Chef Qin cook them up and let everyone have a taste!”
Su Tao scrambled to help with the bags, struggling to carry the heavy load upstairs.
The sheer weight of the goods made her feel guilty—these items were precious in the post-apocalyptic world.
Curious, she peeked into one of the bags, marveling at the fresh red-and-white beef.
She’d never actually seen raw beef before.
The other bag contained fish, shellfish, shrimp, and crabs—also a first for her.
The system’s store only sold cooked food; there was no raw produce available.
“This is too much,” Su Tao protested. “You should keep some for yourself—your dad bought these for you, and you’re giving them all to me. Aren’t you his rebellious little traitor?”
Wen Man waved her hand dismissively. “He’s known I’m a traitor for a while now. Besides, I have even better stuff for you—just help me stuff these in the freezer first. Don’t turn me down!”
Swayed by Wen Man’s sweet, sing-song tone, Su Tao relented. “Fine, fine.”
The stash overwhelmed her fridge, forcing Su Tao to order a large freezer from the system to accommodate everything.
Once the food was stored, Wen Man dragged Su Tao to the couch, pulling out a thick stack of photos.
“These are the properties my dad and Ah Yan got me. Pick two of your favorites—I’ll transfer them to you.”
Then she whipped out another set of pictures:
“And these are various models of mobile base vehicles produced by Qian’an. If you see anything you like or need, I’ll get one for you.”
Su Tao was dumbfounded. “What are you doing?”
Wen Man shifted awkwardly.
“Don’t tell Luo Yan, but I think he was too stingy with the Taoyang deal—he didn’t give you nearly enough. I thought about it for days and decided I should make it up to you, or else I can’t sleep soundly.”
Su Tao facepalmed.
Afraid of being rejected, Wen Man eagerly introduced the properties:
“This one’s a courtyard house in Changjing—it’s got a long history, a prime location in the city center, and it’s worth a fortune. Even if you don’t live there, it’s a great place to stay when you visit.”
“If you’re not into the city, there’s this seaside villa. It’s older, but you could tear it down and rebuild it however you like. The view is amazing.”
“And this mobile base—I highly recommend it. It’s a four-seater mini base vehicle with a hidden mechanical arm, perfect for off-road travel. You can even install cannons, and the exterior is reinforced with heavy armor and bulletproof glass.”
Su Tao’s eyes widened. “It has storage capabilities?”
“Yup! Plus, it doesn’t need fuel—you can power it with energy crystals.”
Suspicious, Su Tao asked, “Why don’t the publicly sold models have storage and crystal-powered features?”
Wen Man blushed.
“Ah Yan custom-made this one for me. He says those functions are too conspicuous for mass production. But it’s super convenient—I even drive it to Changjing to visit my dad.”
Su Tao couldn’t help but ask, “Did Luo Yan personally design these vehicles?”
Wen Man nodded enthusiastically. “Yep! He even handles repairs and upgrades himself if there’s damage.”
Hearing the word “upgrade” triggered a familiar feeling in Su Tao’s mind.
A suspicion formed—but she didn’t dare confirm it.
In the time it took her to space out, Wen Man had already selected two of the best properties and two custom base vehicles for her.
Su Tao was about to refuse when Wen Man’s delicate face tensed up, her breathing quickening as she anxiously awaited her response.
With a sigh of resignation, Su Tao gave in. “…Okay.”
In an instant, Wen Man’s face lit up like sunshine piercing through the clouds.
“I’ll start the property transfer tomorrow, and the vehicles will be delivered in a few days!”
With that, Wen Man left happily, leaving Su Tao in the living room, utterly confused.
Had she… just fallen victim to a beauty trap?
Wen Man’s happiness was obvious to anyone with eyes, which immediately put Luo Yan on edge.
That smile, that carefree demeanor… She must’ve just delivered some extravagant gifts to Su Tao.
He had anticipated this, which was why he had lowballed the price for the Taoyang land—if he gave too much, and Wen Man added more, the total value would be outrageous.
And sure enough, his wife had gone behind his back to increase the “compensation.”
When he finally pried the truth from her, Luo Yan nearly cried at the sight of the two luxury properties and custom high-end vehicles she had given away.
