Chapter 130: Interview
After finishing her homework at night, Gu Qinghuan stretched and picked up her phone, seeing a message Jiang Chuchu had sent her half an hour ago.
The message contained two documents: summarized profiles of Le Yi and Ye Weiyu, compiled by Jiang Chuchu.
Jiang Chuchu: “Concise version: Le Yi is fine, Ye Weiyu is trash. Done.”
Gu Qinghuan: “So concise!”
Even though it had been half an hour, Jiang Chuchu immediately replied when Gu Qinghuan responded:
Jiang Chuchu: “You can check the detailed info yourself. My summary is mainly to help you judge quickly.”
Gu Qinghuan: “Got it~”
Gu Qinghuan: “By the way, that Miss Tang Huocai—what’s her deal?”
Jiang Chuchu: “The Tang family originally dealt in jewelry. The family is matriarchal—capable female descendants can choose to inherit the business or take start-up funds from the family and go out to explore opportunities.”
The Tang Huocai Gu Qinghuan had met today belonged to the branch of the family that ran the jewelry business. According to Jiang Chuchu, Tang Huocai was extremely talented and hardworking. It was almost certain that she would eventually inherit that branch of the business.
Jiang Chuchu: “I asked my mom, who knows the Tang family better, though she isn’t fully clear why Tang Huocai became a minor celebrity’s assistant. She just heard that Tang Huocai had a conflict with her family.”
Gu Qinghuan thought it sounded like a runaway-for-love scenario, but since she didn’t know the full situation, she decided not to comment.
Gu Qinghuan: “I’ll take a look at the data first. If I have questions, I’ll trouble you.”
Jiang Chuchu: “No need for thanks. Oh, and don’t forget to watch the trailer. It’s supposed to be released at nine.”
Gu Qinghuan hadn’t really been paying attention to the trailer. She went through the data instead, pondering whether to join Le Yi’s or Bai Qingyin’s team.
With several minutes until nine, Yu Xin brought Sesame to the living room, turned on the TV, switched to the proper channel, and focused intently on the upcoming trailer.
Strictly speaking, what would air at nine was a promotional interview for the whole show, released officially. The real trailer would likely appear in the middle or at the end of the interview.
Although it could be watched on a phone, the TV screen was much larger—of course it was better to watch it there.
Yu Yuan, hearing the noise, ran out and immediately guessed Yu Xin’s plan.
Thinking the house was empty tonight, she pretended to eat a late-night snack, sneaked into the living room, and tried to coax Sesame to play with her.
Yu Xin didn’t comment, just loosened her hold, letting Sesame be drawn to the cold dessert Yu Yuan had dropped on the floor.
“Why aren’t you watching in your room?” Yu Yuan teased Sesame while quietly asking.
“I took the TV down at first and felt it wouldn’t matter,” Yu Xin replied. “Do you know the name of the show?”
“I know!” Rarely able to show off in front of Yu Xin, Yu Yuan immediately perked up.
Although she had heard the name from Yan Zhengqing, she just needed to avoid mentioning him.
“The show is called Walking with Light. First, our school is called Mingde, which means ‘virtue of light,’ referencing the filming location.
“Second, it refers to teenagers as light, illuminating the world. Celebrities in the show collaborate with teenagers to perform.”
Yu Yuan explained the meaning, then added somewhat critically: “But I think the show’s name is a bit too formal. Oh well, it’s an official collaboration—it can’t be too abstract.”
Yu Xin just nodded as she listened, but as soon as the interview began, she focused entirely on the TV.
It started with the reasons for initiating the show. Interviews were with relevant departments and entertainment company officials—even the principal of Mingde appeared briefly.
Next came an introduction to the show, and the four celebrity guests were presented.
The guests were interviewed individually. The first to appear was Lou Cheng.
Lou Cheng had a striking, glamorous appearance—arched eyebrows and prominent phoenix eyes gave her a bold beauty. Her demeanor was mature, though opinions in the industry were mixed.
Some said she was pretentious, while others called her a rational ambitious person. Regardless, her popularity was high, so it made sense she went first.
The interview questions were the same for all: “Why do you want to participate in this show?” followed by “What performance do you plan?” and finally “What kind of students do you want to collaborate with?”
Lou Cheng answered the first two well, with her personal style shining through. The last answer, however, was vague.
“Since the show is called Walking with Light, naturally the students I collaborate with should reflect ‘light.’
“In fact, from my preliminary observations at Mingde, I already have candidates I want to invite. Whether I can get them into my team is uncertain. Everyone can look forward to the result.”
Yu Yuan propped her chin on her hand. “I saw Lou Cheng these past two days. She deliberately came to our class… uh, I mean, she probably didn’t choose anyone from our class.”
Halfway through, she realized Lou Cheng had come to Class 11 because of Yan Zhengqing, the eldest son of the Jin Ding family. Mentioning this would upset Yu Xin, so she quickly changed the topic.
Yu Xin said nothing. “So far, I’ve seen Le Yi and Ye Weiyu.”
Yu Yuan had wanted to ask about those two, but the TV then shifted to Bai Qingyin.
Unlike Lou Cheng, Bai Qingyin had a more independent and stylish image—sharp and eye-catching. She answered questions frankly.
Thus, when answering the third question, Bai Qingyin’s dilemma was more apparent:
“I’ve considered the show mostly, but the students I want to invite haven’t replied, which is troubling.
“Although they aren’t absolutely necessary, it would be more comfortable to have them… Ah, I’ll wait until filming officially begins.”
Le Yi’s performance was very professional; he answered every question seriously, with a natural, generous attitude.
His answer to the third question was:
“I will invite students who suit the nature of my show to participate in performances. The specific requirements will be clear once the show begins.
“But I do want a ‘stabilizing presence,’ someone capable of leading and coordinating… If I can invite them, that would be perfect.”
Yu Yuan hesitated. She had seen the school’s display wall and knew Le Yi wanted to invite Gu Qinghuan. “Uh, is he talking about your class rep?”
“Definitely,” Yu Xin replied firmly. In her mind, Gu Qinghuan was the strongest stabilizing presence.
Yu Yuan thought of Class 3’s previous plans against Class 11 and her own interactions with Gu Qinghuan, silently nodding in agreement.
Finally, it was Ye Weiyu’s turn. Yu Xin frowned, listening reluctantly.
Compared to the previous three, Ye Weiyu’s answers were slippery and vague, seeming unplanned.
Yu Xin thought he was indeed a lightweight, then heard his answer to the third question:
“I hope to collaborate with students to create beautiful memories from this show.
“Everyone is part of the performance; no one is more outstanding or special. So I want students who can understand each other and get along well.”
Yu Xin remained silent for a few seconds and took out her phone.
[Mischief Squad]
Yu Xin: “Everyone watching the interview? Did you hear Ye Weiyu’s answer?”
Bao Qingsong: “Heard it…”
Xie Xiangxue: “I suspect he’s being sarcastic at us.”
Qin Yue: “Don’t suspect it! That’s exactly it!”
