Chapter 125: Checking the Warehouse
After speaking, Chen Xing naturally wrapped her arm around Huai Yu’s neck, “What do you want to buy? I’ll take you to the warehouse to pick up a bit.”
She glanced again at Uncle Zaozi, whose face looked like a colorful painter’s palette, and couldn’t help but smirk, eyeing him up and down, “Tsk, looks like yesterday’s beating was pretty flashy.”
Uncle Zaozi’s face turned dark, but unfortunately there were so many layers of color on him that you couldn’t tell much anymore.
Huai Yu sweetly greeted her, “Sister Xing Xing.”
Then she put down her basket, “I brought the tuan tea Uncle Zaozi mentioned yesterday, but I’m not sure if it’s drinkable…”
Uncle Zaozi’s eyes lit up and he quickly lifted the cover of the basket, “Why are there so many colors? Do they taste different? What flavors are these?”
Although Huai Yu knew the ingredients, she had never actually tasted it, so she could only smile awkwardly.
But Uncle Zaozi had his own priorities, “Little Yu, you see, I’ve been running around with you all morning, haven’t I done my part? If this turns out to be drinkable later, you’ve got to save me a portion.”
Huai Yu nodded firmly, “Okay!”
Chen Xing also leaned over to take a look, then picked up a pink tuan ball and sniffed it, “There’s a faint floral scent—Fanta, go turn on the detector.”
Huai Yu looked over and saw a young man in an orange jacket get up from the sofa and head into the next room. Not long after, he called out, “All set, let’s test it.”
Chen Xing proudly lifted Huai Yu’s basket with one hand and kept her other arm around Huai Yu’s neck, “This is a detector we spent a fortune on. It can test for toxins, mutation levels, basic medicinal properties—everything.”
“If it wasn’t so big and hard to transport, we’d bring it on our expeditions. That way, we wouldn’t keep bringing back useless junk.”
She glanced at Uncle Zaozi again, “By the way, I never asked you—those mutant green dates you took from me before, did you eat them?”
At this, Uncle Zaozi’s expression turned a bit sour. He pressed his chest, feeling a wave of nausea rising again.
Huai Yu suddenly laughed, “The ones with a mutation value of 23? He did eat them. I saw it with my own eyes.”
She hadn’t expected that those dates had come from Chen Xing. From the way they bickered and teased, their relationship actually seemed pretty solid.
Hearing this, everyone who had been busy with their own stuff turned to look at them, eyes filled with admiration and curiosity.
Huai Yu slowly added, “Uncle Zaozi ate half and threw up, said not even a dog would eat it.”
“Pfft!”
Chen Xing immediately burst out laughing, and everyone eavesdropping couldn’t help but laugh too. Uncle Zaozi didn’t feel embarrassed at all. He lifted his chin and pointed at Huai Yu, “And you’ve got the nerve to tease me. Sure, I ate it, but hey, you can’t catch a wolf without risking the kid. No pain, no gain. I couldn’t eat the dates but I still scored some points—you don’t remember you bought that batch of dates from me for four points?”
“How was it? Good or not? Don’t tell me you bought it and didn’t try it.”
Now everyone turned to stare at her.
That was a mutation value of 23! One dared to sell, and one dared to buy!
Huai Yu thought, well, she had tasted it, but back then she didn’t understand her powers and had accidentally purified it. By the time she ate it, it was sweet, crisp, and delicious.
But right now, she just smiled happily, “It was great. I really love these high-mutation things no one else can sell—they’re really useful for me.”
Chen Xing thought for a moment, “Then you’ve come to the right place. We just got back yesterday afternoon and didn’t have time to sort the stuff at the highway station because we had to rush to the hospital…”
She didn’t say why they were in a hurry.
Huai Yu guessed from their appearance at the hospital what it might have been about.
Chen Xing seemed used to this kind of thing and casually added, “There’s a bunch of stuff that failed the tests this morning still piled up in the warehouse. Take a good look later.”
As they spoke, everyone entered the testing room.
Only after going in did Huai Yu realize why they said the machine couldn’t be transported—
It was huge.
About 2.5 meters long, nearly 2 meters wide, and about 2 meters high—almost taking up the whole little room.
With this thing, you’d even have to be careful going over bumps—how could you bring it on an adventure?
This machine was different from simple mutation testers. Once it was powered on, an enclosed chamber popped out, and the items to be tested were placed inside.
The full analysis took around 15 to 30 minutes.
“Can it really detect all ingredients?” Huai Yu was a bit nervous. What if it found something like dung beetle saliva?
Chen Xing laughed, “If it were that good, I couldn’t afford it. It just gives a rough idea.”
“Come on, while the machine is still warming up, I’ll take you to the warehouse.”
Before they left, Huai Yu seriously asked, “Sister Xing Xing, I live a bit far out. If I buy stuff from you, do you deliver?”
Chen Xing looked her over, then pulled her closer, “Alright, since you’re cute—as long as you buy at least 1,000 points worth, we deliver for free, as long as it’s within Flower City.”
Huai Yu was thrilled! She nodded eagerly, “Definitely within Flower City!”
…Though it was right on the edge.
But once the delivery arrived, she’d sort things out with the Rose Corridor.
Since the Defense Force already knew about her living situation, a few more people knowing didn’t really matter.
As for how to buy 1,000 points worth… well, with only one or two thousand points left, it was clear Huai Yu was experienced at spending.
She followed Chen Xing to the warehouse with great anticipation.
This warehouse was attached to the shopping mall supermarket—a big square room, messily piled with all kinds of things. Near the entrance, a big white plastic bin was even filled with a basket of peaches.
They looked like May fairy peaches—big, round, with green and red skin, and smelled wonderfully peachy.
But after sitting out overnight, the leaves attached had wilted.
“Are these over the mutation limit too?” Huai Yu felt bad—these peaches looked so good.
Chen Xing’s face darkened, “Yeah. A whole group fought for ages, finally beat the peach tree and picked them all—and turns out they mutated to be disgusting.”
“We tested them back—mutation value 27!”
Infuriating, right?! If Chen Xing wasn’t so calm, she’d have tossed them on the spot.
Uncle Zaozi stood at the door laughing like crazy, earning several eye-rolls from Chen Xing.
Huai Yu patted her chest, “It’s okay, Sister Xing Xing. If they’re not too expensive, I’m willing to buy!”
Mutation direction: disgusting—how bad could they be?
