Chapter 302: [Unswerving Devotion] Found You
Xu Taotao first returned to her own room.
She discovered that the situation inside the room was actually identical to when they had run out earlier.
The stool was tilted on the ground, and the porcelain pillow lay shattered all over the floor.
Xu Taotao fell into deep thought.
So had she actually returned, or… had she been trapped here from the very beginning?
If this was a place designed to trap her, then there must be something—a power keeping her locked here.
Originally, she had intended to leave, but as things stood now, perhaps she ought to take a look around the home in her memories after all.
Xu Taotao stood at the doorway of her room and lifted her head to glance at the sky.
A layer of red fog seemed to hover above her head, through which she could vaguely discern a round moon hanging in the heights.
Suddenly, the mist dispersed a little.
The round moon grew somewhat clearer—sure enough, it was still that giant eye, and it had opened a slight slit.
Xu Taotao knitted her brows. Setting aside the eyeball floating overhead for the moment, she searched thoroughly through the room first.
To tell the truth, there was nothing.
Which was only natural.
Xu Taotao forced herself to calm down and not grow anxious.
Since something was trapping her here, it could only be a special power.
And within this house, the entities possessing special power were the people.
Her parents, her maid, her servants.
Xu Taotao thought of Biyun.
Biyun never referred to herself as a maid.
So, could it possibly be Biyun?
Regardless of whether it was or wasn’t, Xu Taotao looked down at her hand. She would know once she killed her.
The thought arose with such utter decisiveness that she felt no hesitation or conflict whatsoever, nor did she find anything cold-blooded or dreadful about acting this way.
Removing one of her earrings, she walked outside.
Biyun was actually standing not far away; despite being told not to follow, she had still trailed after her.
Xu Taotao looked at her and said, “Biyun, come here. I can’t find something in my room.”
Biyun walked over, the red embroidered shoes on her feet glaringly conspicuous with every step she took.
“What are you looking for, Miss?” Biyun asked, staring at her.
“One of my earrings. I only have one left—find the other one for me,” Xu Taotao said impatiently.
Biyun stepped into the room.
At that exact moment, the dodder vines in Xu Taotao’s palm surged out rapidly, plunging straight into Biyun’s body.
Biyun let out a shriek as her body dissolved into shadows, which then turned into countless black threads.
The dodder vines wrapped furiously around those line-like shadows, leaving them not a single chance to escape.
Xu Taotao’s gaze was exceptionally resolute. She was able to control every single inch of every dodder vine, binding, twisting, and completely shredding all the shadows to pieces.
Clack. An eyeball dropped to the ground. Turning around, it was about to fly upward, only to be impaled by a dodder vine.
The eyeball spun frantically on the vine in an attempt to take flight, but the dodder vine coiled around it like a snake, stabbing into it repeatedly before finally crushing the entire eyeball into a burst.
A pink fragment flew out, shooting straight toward the space between Xu Taotao’s eyebrows.
The fragment moved with extreme speed. Even though Xu Taotao reacted and controlled her dodder vine to block her front, the fragment penetrated straight through the vines and entered her body.
Xu Taotao’s eyes widened slightly as memories came rushing into her mind.
Outside, the fog was slowly dissipating, and the giant eye was gradually opening.
It was Bai Cha’s eye.
She saw it too—below lay the dungeon’s Love City.
From a bird’s-eye view of the entire city, it resembled two loverbirds flying wing-to-wing, with the connecting Biyi Building serving as the intersection of their beaks.
Bai Cha didn’t know why she had ended up with an overhead perspective, but at the same time, she realized her current position and feeling felt just like that previous eye.
She attempted to control it, only to discover that aside from opening and closing her eye, she couldn’t control anything else at all, nor could she return to her own body.
It was just that she seemed to vaguely understand something. A certain piece of information entered her mind, letting her roughly know that this eye seemed to be a form of pollution.
These originally somewhat normal NPCs were indeed ghosts and monsters themselves, but they weren’t eyeballs. Yet under the illumination of the eyeball she now inhabited, these NPCs would gradually be reduced to nothing more than a pair of eyes.
Under the rules, however, as long as this eyeball of hers didn’t appear overhead, those NPCs would still act according to the original rules.
That was all.
While Bai Cha was contemplating, a streak of light shot directly toward her.
It was likely an attack from a player.
Instinctively, Bai Cha closed her eye.
A yellow net blocked the area in front of her eyelid.
Feeling a familiar power, Bai Cha opened her eye.
Xu Taotao was standing at a high point at some unknown moment, gazing right at her.
Xu Taotao had changed.
Bai Cha could clearly see the facial expressions on Xu Taotao’s face. Her original expressions had been very easy to read, but now they had become exceedingly complex.
Looking at her, Xu Taotao’s gaze gradually softened.
“Bai Cha, I found you.”
The eyeball in the sky trembled slightly, seemingly unable to comprehend the meaning of her words.
“You might not remember me, but it doesn’t matter. You’ve already met me, and I think you’ll eventually remember.”
As Xu Taotao spoke, dodder vines continuously sprouted from her body.
An endless, ceaseless stream.
That was a level of power that Bai Cha couldn’t possibly possess even if she received sacrifices from a dozen people.
“Look closely. This is your true power.”
The dodder vines continuously twisted together, gradually growing thick and stout until they filled the entire dungeon.
The dungeon began to quake.
Bai Cha felt her consciousness starting to gather back together.
She still had so many questions she wanted to ask, but she was merely an eyeball right now, entirely unable to voice them.
Xu Taotao’s figure also began to turn transparent.
She reached out her hand and made a hushing gesture.
“Be yourself.”
[Warning! Warning! Force majeure has occurred within the dungeon. All players will be teleported out in three seconds!]
By the time Bai Cha heard the system’s voice, her consciousness had been dragged back completely.
The moment she opened her eyes, she was already back in the teleportation space.
Bai Cha was still somewhat bewildered by everything that had happened inside the dungeon.
So, they didn’t need to merge after all.
Then who on earth was Xu Taotao?
Was it her?
But what state of her was that?
So was there really another Bai Cha in this world?
[Dear, welcome back to your senses.]
The pixelated grimace spoke. Surprisingly, it was quite calm, showing no anger whatsoever, completely unlike its usual self.
Bai Cha looked at it.
“How come you aren’t angry this time?” Bai Cha asked directly.
[…]
[Dear, the things I get angry about have never been what you think, okay~]
The pixelated grimace rolled its eyes as it spoke.
“Is that so? Meaning you’re different from what I imagined?” Bai Cha narrowed her eyes slightly. “I always thought you were a petty, vicious, and disgusting existence. Turns out you’re not?”
[…………]
The calm expression on the pixelated grimace finally broke, giving way to a look of fury.
[You are maliciously speculating! How can you judge me based on a single side?]
“Then go ahead and adjust my game entry time back to normal. Do that, and I’ll admit I was judging a gentleman’s heart with the belly of a villain.”
