Chapter 33: Deadly Infection 18
Chu Yian never expected that they would one day be targeted for “showing off their wealth.”
The vehicles behind them kept following, brazen and unconstrained.
Lu Qingyuan originally intended to find a place to deal with these people, but their unbridled behavior attracted too much unnecessary attention along the way.
Lu Qingyuan frowned deeply and suddenly said, “Hold on tight.”
With that, he suddenly slammed on the brakes. If Chu Yian hadn’t been wearing her seatbelt, she would have been thrown out.
His sudden stop allowed the two cars behind to catch up. One of them nearly crashed into the back of his car, and the driver hastily swerved, driving onto the sidewalk.
“Damn it!”
The young hooligan cursed again, then immediately got out of his car, intending to confront Lu Qingyuan. But Lu Qingyuan didn’t wait for them; he drove off again.
Realizing he had been tricked, the young man immediately gave chase again. One of the cars turned a corner, taking a shortcut, attempting to block Lu Qingyuan from the opposite direction.
Chu Yian watched Lu Qingyuan maneuver around them, her hands tightly gripping the seatbelt. The buildings outside the window flashed by rapidly, and the car constantly turned and spun, bringing on a dizzying nausea.
However, before she could vomit, the two cars beside them violently collided. Due to the high speed, the hoods of both cars were directly caved in.
One person died on the spot, and two others were trapped in their seats, hit by car fragments and parts, wailing in pain. Three others, however, were fine. They got out of the car, somewhat weak-kneed, ignoring Lu Qingyuan, who had driven away, and frantically tried to rescue the injured.
Lu Qingyuan re-entered the main road but did not go directly to the Shopping Mall. Instead, he stopped two kilometers in diameter from there.
“Get out of the car. We’ll walk through these buildings.”
They had already attracted enough attention. If they drove the car directly, many people would notice. This area was full of commercial streets and public places, and fewer living people were still here than in the Residential Area since the pandemic.
After Chu Yian got out of the car, she followed closely behind him. The two entered the Shopping Mall building directly through a smashed glass, planning to pass through the interior of the Shopping Mall and then run to the other side via the underground pedestrian street.
Only emergency lights were on inside the Shopping Mall.
Although it was pitch black inside, scattered clothes were still visible everywhere. Counters for valuables had been smashed, and the gold jewelry, famous watches, and branded items inside had been looted. There were also dark brown bloodstains on the ground, and following the bloodstains, there was a rotting, foul-smelling corpse.
Now the entire city smelled like this, and Chu Yian had grown accustomed to it.
She only glanced at it, then quickly caught up with Lu Qingyuan’s footsteps.
Passing through the gloomy Shopping Mall, the underground pedestrian street was below.
The two moved quickly because they didn’t have much time left.
7:43 AM
They finally arrived at the agreed-upon location—the city’s tallest building, Fengyun Tower.
It had a total of 88 floors.
It was primarily for offices and commerce, with a hotel on the middle floors. The top floor was a helipad, and the plane was supposed to stop there, and if no one was there, it would leave.
They had agreed on 8:10.
The two, still on the first floor, began frantically searching for an elevator.
However, all elevators going up in the lobby had been deliberately destroyed without exception. Eighty-eight floors; twenty minutes was simply not enough time to go up. Chu Yian ran to many places and finally found a freight elevator in an inconspicuous small utility room that had been deliberately blocked but was still operating.
“Teacher Lu!”
Chu Yian shouted excitedly at him.
The two finally got into the elevator going up at 7:50. However, this elevator only went up to the 80th floor!
Watching the time steadily approaching and hearing the sound of helicopter propellers overhead, Chu Yian was so nervous her heart was in her throat.
With eight floors remaining, Lu Qingyuan exited the elevator and rushed up like a flying man, hoping to intercept the person before the helicopter departed.
They made it!
Chu Yian climbed up, panting heavily. The helicopter had already left, and she breathed a sigh of relief as she saw the white medicine box in Lu Qingyuan’s hand.
“Come here.”
Lu Qingyuan was about to open the medicine box when other voices echoed in the hallway.
“Our building, it’s our building!”
“I clearly saw the mark on the plane; it’s the logo of the World CDC. Everyone, hurry up, it might be a vaccine!”
Someone was coming up!
“Let’s get out of here first!”
Lu Qingyuan grabbed the box and led the way, running down.
The two of them ran very fast. By the time those people came up from Stairwell 1, they had already descended from Stairwell 2.
The rooftop was empty, which surprised the group of people.
However, leaving was easier said than done.
When the helicopter arrived, everyone in the city saw it. Among them were many well-informed people who recognized where the plane came from, thus inferring what was inside.
The special medicine held an unimaginable allure. Those who had already caught up were only the survivors originally in the building. Besides these people, a large wave of others followed one after another.
The two immediately headed for the elevator. Just as the group came up, the elevator stopped on that floor. They successfully got into the elevator and pressed for the first floor. Going up and down the stairs would take ten minutes. Chu Yian kept a close watch, worried about being intercepted on a certain floor.
The two were on edge, and finally, they reached the first floor!
As soon as they ran to the main entrance, a black figure suddenly pounced on Lu Qingyuan.
This was a young man.
He was gaunt, covered in red rashes, and oozing yellow mucus, clearly suffering from an infectious disease and critically ill.
His eyes were cloudy, but he stared intently at the box in Lu Qingyuan’s hand, “The special medicine, my special medicine!”
Lu Qingyuan tightened his grip on the box and kicked him hard.
The man was instantly knocked down, but he still crawled stubbornly towards Lu Qingyuan. His throat sounded as if he hadn’t spoken in a long time, hoarsely and sharply shouting, “Special medicine.”
These three words were like a bomb, instantly giving everyone else a target: “The special medicine is there!”
At once, everyone rushed over.
This scene was almost identical to the last round of zombies rushing towards living people! Lu Qingyuan and she were instantly separated by the crowd, and the medicine box in Lu Qingyuan’s hand became the object of everyone’s scramble.
Chu Yian was also tackled, but after realizing she had nothing on her, these people quickly rushed towards the crowd pressing against Lu Qingyuan.

Chu Yian watched this scene, crying out helplessly.
Just then, the box containing the special medicine was thrown out of the crowd, “Run!”
Chu Yian caught the box, her mind blank, with only his command remaining. She hugged the box tightly and rushed back into the building without looking back.
She exerted all her strength, rushed up to the fourth floor, and hid in a pantry in an office area. And those frantic crowds had already followed, sweeping through the fourth floor room by room like locusts…
