Chapter 1: This Father Is Something Else
A midsummer evening.
The wind was scorching.
The cicadas chirped and the frogs croaked incessantly.
Jiang Mianmian had a satisfying sleep, and then, feeling a bit hungry, she woke up.
She opened her eyes to see a woman with a round face smiling at her.
“Little one is awake, you must be hungry.”
The round-faced woman picked her up and skillfully lifted her clothes.
She opened her mouth by reflex and suckled hard.
The process was smooth and seamless, with perfect cooperation.
Jiang Mianmian thought while she swallowed.
For some inexplicable reason, she had been transmigrated as a baby for a month now. At first, she couldn’t see anything; a baby’s eyes weren’t very good, and everything looked blurry.
Once she could see a bit more clearly, her heart sank.
It was a very ordinary household; the room was simple, with a stone bed and basic farming tools…
Her luck with this reincarnation was just average.
Fortunately, Mother in this body was gentle and gave her a sense of security.
Mother had an ordinary appearance with a large, round face, though perhaps that was just because she mostly saw her from the angle of nursing.
After suckling for a while, she grew tired, feeling like someone trying to suck the last bit of a drink through a straw, exhausted, and stopped.
Mother picked her up, gently rocking her while stroking her back, which felt so comfortable that, even though she hadn’t eaten her fill, she began to feel drowsy again.
“Creak.” The door was pushed open, and a gust of hot air rushed in.
Jiang Mianmian opened her eyes alertly, her head still resting on Mother’s shoulder.
Then she fell into another embrace.
It was her father.
She could tell by the scent; there was the smell of herbs.
Lying in a different embrace, she became energetic again.
She tried hard to open her eyes to see her father clearly, looking up from the “death angle” of the chin, but she only had one thought: handsome.
Her father’s appearance was unexpectedly striking.
With long black hair, soulful eyes, and a straight nose bridge.
Though dressed in coarse linen, he had an indescribable air of elegance.
When he entered the room, it felt as if the room instantly brightened.
She didn’t know if she resembled Mother or Father, but she silently prayed that girls should take after their fathers more.
As usual, she tried hard to prick up her ears, preparing to listen to her parents chat.
She wanted to get some useful information.
For this past month, she had only eaten, pooped, and slept, completely in the dark about everything else; she only knew this body had parents, a brother, and a sister, but no other information had been gathered, and she hadn’t received her special ability yet…
“Was Mianmian good today? Did she fuss?”
“Very good, much easier to care for than the first two, but my milk supply is insufficient, so she’s still thin.”
“Why are you off work so early today?”
“Someone stole medicinal herbs, and the superior was furious, saying they would crack down on it, so we came back early.”
When Jiang Mianmian heard about stealing medicinal herbs, her ears perked up; she wanted to know if there was any inside story and if her father might be unlucky enough to get implicated.
Then she heard Mother ask in a low voice: “Did you take some and get caught? I told you not to take it, not to take it!”
Jiang Mianmian:… ( ⊙ ▽ ⊙ )???
My father looks so handsome, yet he actually does things like this? What kind of insane plot twist is this?
“It’s fine, you can rest assured when I handle things; I only took one-third, the bulk was taken by the people above.”
“That’s still dangerous, what if something happens!”
The two were still whispering, quietly exchanging tips on theft??
Jiang Mianmian’s heart was in turmoil; she couldn’t believe it. What kind of person was her own father!
He looks so delicate and handsome, who would have thought he’d do something like this??
Jiang Mianmian’s heart had yet to settle.
Footsteps sounded outside the door.
Then, there was a knock.
“Knock, knock, knock.”
