Road to Survival 2

Chapter 3: Road to Survival 2

“Students and teachers, a large-scale riot has broken out in the city. All personnel still outdoors, please seek shelter in the nearest indoor location. All personnel indoors, please close your doors and windows and wait for rescue!”

“Repeating the announcement: All personnel still outdoors, please seek shelter in the nearest indoor location. All personnel indoors, please close your doors and windows and wait for res— Close the door! Quick, close the door!”

The sound of frantic footsteps came through the broadcast, followed by a piercing scream that pierced through the tense nerves of everyone in the school.

“Ah—!”

With a terrified scream, everyone began to panic.

Chu Yian dragged her only remaining roommate as they sprinted. However, her roommate suddenly stopped at the second teaching building. “Yian, the broadcast said we should seek shelter in the nearest building.”

She pointed to a nearby classroom where someone was closing the windows and waving for them to come inside.

“There are too many people.”

Chu Yian took a glance and continued rushing toward the Dormitory Building.

But her roommate didn’t want to go any further.

“Yian, I can’t run anymore. Besides, there are so many people in the classroom; we’ll definitely be safer if we organize together than if it’s just the two of us.”

She shook off Chu Yian’s hand and ran straight to the window, reaching out for the people inside to pull her in. Then she looked at Chu Yian. “Come over here!”

Seeing this, Chu Yian shook her head. It really wouldn’t work.

Those lunatics were reckless; they could smash car windshields with their heads and break the classroom windows just as easily. The teaching building wasn’t much safer than being outside.

Their dormitory room was on the sixth floor, and there were no windows in the hallway. If they blocked the door with something, they could observe the situation downstairs from a distance. Plus, there was enough drinking water for basic needs. That was the most suitable place for shelter.

But everyone makes different choices.

Let go of the urge to help others and respect their fates.

As screams and footsteps drew closer, Chu Yian could no longer worry about her. She took off and continued running forward.

Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a bicycle parked under the teaching building. It wasn’t locked.

I’ll borrow this!

She hopped on the bike and pedaled vigorously toward the dormitory.

“Yian!”

From the classroom window, the roommate watched Chu Yian departing back with both blame and worry, but mostly with the terror and fear of having just escaped death.

“It’s okay, it’s okay.”

Seeing this, other students came over to comfort her. “It’s safe once you’re in the classroom.”

However, no sooner had they spoken than more people came running toward this teaching building.

“Ah—!”

“Help!”

“Open the door!”

Just as the students inside were about to save more people, a man with a face covered in blood ran to the window and slammed into it violently. Blood gushing from his forehead and mouth instantly smeared onto the glass, yet he continued to bash against it tirelessly. Soon, more people were slamming into the windows.

The classroom didn’t even hold out for half a minute before they broke in… On the other side…

Chu Yian pedaled hard all the way and finally reached the bottom of the dormitory building.

At this time, many people were also rushing toward the Dormitory Building. She blended into the crowd and charged back at her top speed. She closed the door and locked it.

She pulled out all the stools and suitcases in the room and piled them up against the door. Then, she collapsed onto the floor, gasping for air. Escaping from the streets had exhausted all her energy.

Chu Yian didn’t dare rest for long. She stood up and began to observe her current surroundings.

This dormitory had only six floors and no elevator; she was currently on the top floor. The building was somewhat old, but the walls were snowy white and the doors were modern security doors—it had likely been recently renovated.

She glanced at the remaining third of the water in the dispenser, then found a basin and turned on the tap.

While the water was running, she stepped onto the balcony to look outside.

The view was wide here; she could see the Sports Ground and the main paths leading to the cafeteria and Phase 3 of the teaching building.

Downstairs, many people were still searching for shelter like headless chickens. Some, having not faced those lunatics directly, lacked a sense of crisis, looking back as they ran.

The crisis was still spreading.

The number of crazed people outside the teaching building had grown to a terrifying amount. They were rushing toward the Dormitory Building in groups. Chu Yian saw an idiot who was not only running slowly but was also filming them with his phone.

Then, he was tackled.

At least three people were biting him. Someone tried to save him but was also tackled. Standing upstairs, Chu Yian watched as the person in the center was bitten and devoured by the lunatics. A bloody severed arm was tossed onto the lawn.

Yet, after a few seconds, the person who had been devoured until only one arm remained came back to life and began to crawl with that remaining arm.

Not lunatics, but Zombies!

The faint scent of blood hung in the air, and her stomach churned. Finally unable to control herself, she ran to the toilet and vomited.

After vomiting, she returned to the balcony.

The Zombies downstairs split into two groups: one headed toward the Cafeteria and Sports Ground, while the other rounded the Dormitory Building.

The thumping sound of people running upstairs echoed, and cries for help could be heard throughout the building.

Chu Yian didn’t dare open the door.

She quickly turned off the lights in the room and retreated to the point furthest from the door, gripping a clothes drying pole tightly in her hands.

Footsteps sounded outside; people fleeing for their lives had made it upstairs.

Those outside were banging on the doors frantically, hoping the people inside would let them in.

It was afternoon, but poor lighting in hallways was a common problem in almost all school dormitories. Because Chu Yian had turned off the lights in advance, everyone who came up bypassed her room without exception.

She didn’t dare go near and listened from a distance.

Quite a few dormitory rooms chose to open their doors. However, while those who came first were seeking help, those following close behind were the lunatics.

Low growls and roars rose and fell, and screams from those being attacked echoed from the hallway and several dormitory rooms.

In an instant,

The Dormitory Building also turned into a living hell.

Chu Yian’s palms, gripping the clothes pole, were sweating, and her mind went blank until voices came from the next room—

“Block it! Use more strength!”

“Don’t come in! We’ve already called the police!”

The door of the next room was being slammed by the Infected outside. Their threats only resulted in even more frantic pounding.

Chu Yian ran to the balcony to check on the neighboring room. However, below her, students on every floor were being forced onto their balconies by the intruding lunatics. Some students, with nowhere left to run, jumped straight off the building.

“Help! Help!”

The cries for help came from next door.

The door of the next room was smashed open, and the people inside were also forced onto the balcony.

Only a glass sliding door separated the balcony from the room, and such a thin door wouldn’t stop the Zombies for long. After leaning most of their bodies out, they saw Chu Yian on her balcony and treated her as their last lifeline.

However, the dormitory balconies were inset. Not only was there a thick wall between them, but they were also two or three meters apart, with no way to climb across.

Just then, the Infected burst through the door.

From Chu Yian’s perspective, she saw many blood-stained hands drag the two people down from the railing…
