Chapter 44: Outside the Guesthouse
Bai Cha ran out without even thinking.
A feeling of being twined came from her neck. Bai Cha touched it; it was a strand of hair that was rapidly tightening.
This should be the mark of that female ghost. Bai Cha directly raised the sword and swiped it across her neck.
Her neck was cut, and blood flowed out instantly, but the strand of hair also fell to the ground.
She had already rushed into the corridor.
The terrifying aura behind her was spreading rapidly.
As Bai Cha ran, she only felt a shaking of the earth, and the entire ground completely collapsed.
She fell into the endless abyss.
*
“Are you awake?”
Bai Cha opened her eyes, startled by the voice she heard.
She subconsciously looked around.
It was a hospital.
She looked at the person who spoke; it was her roommate, Li Mengyao.
“What’s wrong? Still not feeling well? You don’t seem to have a fever anymore. Should I call the doctor for you?”
Li Mengyao reached out worriedly to feel her forehead, then stood up.
Bai Cha watched her get up and leave, a trace of confusion flashing in her eyes. Something felt wrong.
Why was she in the hospital? Oh, it was because she went to pick up a package. What package?
Bai Cha frowned, unable to recall any recent deliveries she was expecting.
Li Mengyao quickly returned with a doctor. After a brief examination and some simple questions, the doctor said, “It’s nothing serious. She might just be a bit slow to react after waking up. Keep her company and let her rest well.”
“Okay, thank you, doctor.”
After seeing the doctor off, Li Mengyao sat down by the bed.
“Bai Cha, why didn’t you say anything when you were sick and still ran out to get a package? You fainting at the delivery point scared people to death. A boy from our school brought you here and then contacted me and A Zhao. A Zhao went to get you food; it’s lunchtime now.”
Bai Cha nodded, her brow still furrowed. She sat up, but her hand suddenly touched something cold.
Li Mengyao helped her raise the back of the hospital bed while saying, “You must tell me if you feel unwell again in the future, okay?”
“The package?” Bai Cha touched the cold object, the strange feeling in her heart growing stronger. She didn’t show it, just asked casually.
“The package? It’s on the table. What kind of package is it? You should have said something earlier; A Zhao and I could have picked it up for you when we came back.”
Bai Cha looked at the delivery box on the table, picked it up, and opened it. Inside was a pure white statue.
A plaster statue, sculpted in her own likeness, very lifelike.
Why would it be her?
Bai Cha felt increasingly uneasy.
Li Mengyao had already exclaimed in surprise.
“Which store did you buy this from? It looks so real! Did you buy it yourself, or did someone give it to you? Don’t tell me another boy is chasing after you?”
Bai Cha watched her pick up the statue and suddenly snatched it back with a swift movement.
Li Mengyao was stunned.
But Bai Cha suddenly slammed the statue hard onto the ground.
Smash—
The plaster statue shattered instantly.
While Li Mengyao was taken aback, a look of horror also appeared on her face.
“Bai Cha, your body…”
Bai Cha had already felt the pain of being smashed.
She looked down and saw her own body also rapidly turning into chunks.
The hand under the blanket suddenly clenched the cold object.
The pain was too real. Bai Cha thought she was going to die.
But the intense pain finally made her realize what was wrong.
This was not the real world at all.
She wasn’t picking up her own package.
Bai Cha suddenly opened her eyes and saw that she was hanging outside a window.
Her heart jumped, and she fell towards the ground below.
She subconsciously raised her hand and thrust the sword into the wall.
The wall immediately began to writhe frantically, struggling to eject the sword.
Bai Cha pressed the sword down firmly until she was at a sufficient distance, then pulled it out and fell to the ground, rolling over once.
She looked up, and the Buddha statue stood outside the tall building, staring at her.
At the same time, one figure after another appeared on the silent street.
They were like the trapped souls of the dead, all waiting for fresh flesh and blood to arrive so they could devour it.
Without thinking, Bai Cha ran towards the guesthouse.
But the guesthouse door was locked.
“Open the door!” Bai Cha knocked on the door, but there was no response from inside.
And those figures had already surrounded her.
One of them closest to her had already lunged.
Bai Cha thrust her sword forward.
A dark light flashed across the blade of Frosty Mountain, almost instantly absorbing the ghost.
At the same time, Bai Cha also felt a force surge into her body.
Cold, carrying the aura of death, but it sharpened her five senses.
This was clearly the side effect Wang Xuming had mentioned.
While fighting, Bai Cha didn’t forget to continue knocking on the door. If she could find an opening, she would try to break the lock.
These ghosts were endless.
If no one opened the door, she might only have a dead end.
Bai Cha pursed her lips and looked at the statue again.
When she lit the incense, she had tried her best to avoid lighting it for this statue. But she didn’t expect that even running into the bathroom and dragging that female ghost in with her hadn’t helped her escape.
Bai Cha originally had no intention of exploring the relationships between these monsters. Because with her strength, exploring these was clearly meaningless.
But now she had been sent out by the tabletop game task.
The statue and the guesthouse…
Bai Cha suddenly burst forth, slashing and killing several surrounding ghosts.
More powerful forces merged into her body, but she began to feel her own body, like the shattered statue, about to break apart.
Taking advantage of this brief opening, she ran to the wall and slashed at the guesthouse wall.
After the sword pierced the wall, it was still that writhing, bleeding living thing, unlike the door.
Bai Cha began to attack the wall frantically at an extremely high frequency. The cost of doing so was that the ghostly aura on her body became increasingly dense, so dense that the ghost shadows attacking her stopped.
The ghost shadows stared at her with some hesitation and confusion, seemingly unsure if this person was already one of their own kind.
Bai Cha’s sword stirred within the wall.
“Let me in, or when you get hurt, I want to see if that Buddha statue will devour you!”
Bai Cha threatened in a low voice.
A strange change occurred in her body. Patches of cyan-gray color appeared on her skin, and her eyes turned crimson.
Coupled with her black hair and white dress, she looked no different from the ghost shadows outside.
“Don’t force me to take you down with me!”
Bai Cha once again violently thrust the sword into the wall.
The blood seeping from the wall increased, and the statue behind her emitted an even more terrifying aura, as if something was awakening.
Finally, in the process of wriggling, the guesthouse wall reluctantly opened a crack.
Bai Cha quickly squeezed through.
