Calling the Front Desk

Chapter 7: Calling the Front Desk

Xiao Xiao thought for a moment and shook her head.

“Didn’t notice any time anywhere.”

Bai Cha seemed thoughtful and suddenly picked up the landline phone.

There was a time displayed on the phone.

3:52.

It wasn’t yet four o’clock.

Bai Cha’s eyes flickered, and she said, “Should we call and ask?”

Xiao Xiao immediately took the landline from her and put it back.

“You’re really bold. Do you know how dangerous it is in here? Let’s go get someone.”

Bai Cha lowered her head as if embarrassed.

Xiao Xiao shook her head and didn’t say anything more.

Bai Cha then glanced at the Buddha statue.

The Buddha statue at the front desk was making the teaching mudra.

The hand gesture of the package she picked up for Yu Zhenzhen was the tarjani mudra.

Actually, she had a vague guess in her heart.

But it was indeed unnecessary to risk herself; it was best to call everyone over.

Everyone gathered quickly.

Brother Cai took the flyer from their hands to look at it, his tone unfriendly as he said, “Didn’t I tell you to check the kitchen? What are you doing at the front desk?”

A hint of resentment arose in Xiao Xiao’s heart, but there was nothing she could do. The other party’s strength was so much higher than hers, and the level represented the number of instance clears.

Bai Cha spoke softly.

“We’ve already checked the kitchen. There was nothing unusual inside, except…”

She lowered her head somewhat shamefully, her voice delicate.

“I accidentally vomited into the pot.”

Everyone’s expressions varied.

Wang Xuming’s mouth twitched, then he took a deep look at the seemingly frail girl and asked before Brother Cai could speak, “Did you notice anything else unusual after that?”

Bai Cha shook her head, looking even more ashamed.

Brother Cai snorted coldly. He had finished reading the flyer in his hand and then passed it to others.

“What time is it now?” he also asked this question.

Xiao Xiao didn’t speak.

Bai Cha also shook her head.

Brother Cai’s expression was unfriendly, and he looked at the others.

Wang Xuming said, “When I was checking the faucets in the bathroom just now, I casually glanced at the landline, it was almost four o’clock, maybe just two minutes away.”

A glint of light flashed in Brother Cai’s eyes.

He realized that this might be the only time before tomorrow morning to verify the front desk.

So he pointed at Bai Cha and said, “Then you go call the front desk.”

Bai Cha’s face instantly turned pale, looking very fearful.

She wrung the corner of her clothes and said, “Can… can someone else go? You’re the strongest, can’t you go?”

“Of course…” Before Brother Cai could speak, she quickly added, “I know I can’t resist you, you’re strong so you get to decide, but what if something happens, I’m afraid I’ll mess it up… like going to the kitchen to look at some meat and accidentally vomiting into the pot…”

As she finished speaking, tears welled up in her eyes.

Brother Cai gritted his teeth, looked at her frail and pitiful appearance, and sneered.

“If the game didn’t prohibit players from killing each other, someone like you, I would have killed you right now.”

But what Bai Cha said obviously made sense, regarding the food. Because Bai Cha had vomited into the pot, it probably couldn’t be verified for a while.

So Brother Cai turned his gaze to the other C3, Zhong Man.

“Then you go.”

Zhong Man’s face also instantly turned deathly pale.

But he didn’t even have the courage to refuse.

His hand trembling, he picked up the landline and dialed the number printed on the folder.

A sound quickly came from the other end of the line, crackling and hissing, as if the signal was bad.

“Hello, do you need any hissing… assistance hissing…”

Listening to the hissing sound, Zhong Man felt a stinging pain in his eardrums, as if another voice was faintly entering his mind.

Gritting his teeth, he quickly asked, “I want to know where the front desk is?”

“Hissing… there are still three minutes before closing time, is the front desk not there? Hissing… okay, we understand…”

“Please rest assured, the front desk just went to the restroom. Turn around and look, he’s back.”

The last sentence was exceptionally clear, without any stuttering.

Zhong Man’s hair stood on end instantly, and he turned his head back.

The others also followed his movement and looked towards the stairwell.

“Tap… tap…”

The sound of footsteps descending the stairs came from the shadows.

A man wearing a Chinese-style black cotton and linen outfit came down.

He looked to be in his twenties, with a very stiff face. And he was as white as a plaster statue, perhaps because he completely lacked the luster of human skin.

His pupils were particularly black. As he walked over, his eyes swept over everyone in the room, and those who were looked at felt like they were being stared at by a wild beast.

Especially Zhong Man.

He saw the front desk staff walk up to him and ask in a strange voice,

“May I ask if the guest needs any assistance?”

Almost instantly, Zhong Man only felt a sharp stinging pain spread throughout his brain. His face turned pale, cold sweat seeped from his forehead, and his vision blurred. He couldn’t say a single word.

The landline phone in his hand slipped and fell onto the table, but as it touched the table, it was caught by a pale hand.

The front desk staff gently put the phone back in place and then looked at the remaining players.

“May I ask what business the guests have with me? I only have one minute left before I get off work.”

The players’ faces also turned pale.

That strange shockwave made it feel like someone was stirring their brains with an awl.

Bai Cha, however, was fine.

She adapted quickly.

One advantage of being frequently ill was that, despite the frequent illnesses, she could endure pain more easily than ordinary people.

She glanced at the silent players and simply spoke up.

“I… um… I accidentally vomited into the pot in the kitchen, and I wanted to ask what to do?”

The front desk staff’s head moved slowly until his gaze landed on Bai Cha.

“You don’t need to worry. The food in the kitchen is not clean anyway. But rest assured, I will help you clean it up.”

He spoke in that slow, strange tone, and then the expression on his face suddenly became lively again.

“But I’m sorry, it’s already closing time for today. I will help you deal with the unclean food in the kitchen when I come to work tomorrow morning. Goodbye.”

After speaking, he went upstairs again.

But no one knew where he lived.

Instead of leaving the guest-house after getting off work, he went upstairs.

“There doesn’t seem to be any staff dormitory upstairs. Or is one of the rooms used as a staff dormitory?” Wang Xuming spoke.

Bai Cha glanced at him without any change in expression.

This person definitely had secrets.

As an acting expert, Bai Cha knew from the moment Wang Xuming opened his mouth that this person was acting, but not entirely.

If Brother Cai was famous among the players, then as a player not much weaker than Brother Cai, the name Wang Xuming had never appeared in her comments.

Admittedly, she didn’t understand the livestreaming format of this game.

But using Brother Cai as an example, Wang Xuming was too low-key.

Perhaps sensing her brief scrutiny just now, Wang Xuming looked at her and gave her a friendly smile.
