Old Uncle Ge looked at the items in his hands, his eyes crinkling with a massive smile.
“Xu Hui!” he said.
“Her third uncle is Director Xu from the main office.”
Thinking of Lin Wan’s exceptional generosity, Old Uncle Ge threw in another piece of advice. He wasn’t afraid of Lin Wan selling him out either—who in the entire bureau didn’t know about this matter anyway? “Hello, Big Sister Gao! Hello, Officer Jiang and Officer Cui! I’m here to complete my onboarding procedures!” Lin Wan played absolute dumb.
Officer Cui and Officer Jiang exchanged a swift glance, completely ignoring her. This girl truly knew how to keep her composure; her skin was remarkably thick. Clearly, her mother was a peasant and her aunt was a peasant too, yet she had the nerve to spout absolute nonsense, leading them to assume her aunt was some sort of formidable, great figure. They truly didn’t know how on earth she had managed to sneak in to take the exam.
Big Sister Gao, however, waved her over. “Little Lin, come over to my desk. I’ll handle it for you.”
Lin Wan quickly walked over to Big Sister Gao’s desk. Reaching into her canvas satchel, she fished out a small paper packet and secretly shoved it into her hands. “My second aunt grew these date trees herself and dried the dates. They are incredibly sweet!”
It was a small packet of red dates. The quantity wasn’t large, but this stuff was exceptionally hard to come by.
Big Sister Gao quickly stowed it away. “Oh, how embarrassing!” She asked with feigned casualness, “So, your second aunt lives in the countryside?”
Lin Wan nodded. “Yes, right in Wuhuai Village on the outskirts of the city. My mother is a peasant too. She only managed to marry into the city because her sworn older sister introduced them. My biological father was a university graduate, a technician at the Red Star Machinery Factory. It was all thanks to my mother’s sworn sister pulling the strings; otherwise, a peasant girl like my mother could never have married into the city.”
“After my father sacrificed his life performing a righteous deed, my mother took me and remarried. She married a worker from the Red Star Machinery Factory as well, a level-seven worker.”
Lin Wan’s words were a seamless blend of truths and fabrications, leaving massive room for imagination! For a technician at a massive state-owned factory, if the matchmaker’s social status and position were low, it would be absolutely impossible for him to marry a peasant girl! The lingering irritation in his chest from feeling fooled by Lin Wan vanished into thin air instantly. Any thought of giving Lin Wan a rough time or pulling a power move on her disappeared completely.
“To be honest with you, my partner was also introduced by my aunt,” Lin Wan said with a shy smile on her face, simultaneously reaching into her pocket to pull out some wedding candy for Big Sister Gao. She spoke in a thoroughly lowered voice. “Twenty-six years old, a deputy regimental commander…”

“We registered our certificate just recently too.” Lin Wan pulled out her marriage certification documents and handed them to Big Sister Gao.
