Chapter 294: A Perfect Ending
After hearing Yu Zhiyu’s heartfelt confession, Ning Xiyue, who had been secretly “eating melons” (watching the drama), was thrilled—
but unfortunately, the main character Chen Ye Chu was already leaning drowsily against the door, eyes closed, slowly sliding down to the floor.
She didn’t see the deep affection in his gaze, didn’t respond at all—
and whether she even heard his words was anyone’s guess.
Yu Zhiyu looked at her indulgently, smiling softly as he crouched in front of her.
“Yechu, the floor’s cold. Let’s not sit here.”
“No, I want to wait here for Xiyue. Xiyue hasn’t come back yet—I want to talk to her.”
Chen Ye Chu clung stubbornly to the doorframe, refusing to get up, twisting her body in protest.
“Alright, alright—we’ll wait for Xiyue together. She’ll be back soon. Once she’s here, you can talk to her, okay?”
He coaxed her patiently, finally taking off his jacket to spread it on the ground so she wouldn’t catch a chill, then sat beside her to wait.
Meanwhile, the very person they were “waiting” for, Ning Xiyue, was squatting a few meters away, nearly bursting with excitement.
In her mind, she was replaying what she’d just witnessed: Yu Zhiyu had basically announced that tomorrow he’d officially confess to Chen Ye Chu.
A confession with a preview—now that’s a first!
She couldn’t help but imagine what tomorrow’s scene would look like.
This Yu Zhiyu really was something—an absolute gentleman, not taking advantage of her while she was drunk.
Ning Xiyue was genuinely happy for them. After all, she was the only audience member of this live romance drama tonight.
Luckily, most people in the courtyard were already asleep, and their rooms were at the very back—no one else came out to interrupt.
After tonight, their relationship would surely take a big step forward,
perhaps even move into the next stage.
The male and female leads were finally about to come together!
Compared to reading about it in a novel, watching it unfold live was a thousand times better!
System glanced at the two sitting on the ground nearby and reminded Ning Xiyue,
“Host, your cue’s coming up. They’re both waiting for you.”
“Right, my cue! I’ll step in now and give this wonderful night the perfect ending.”
Ning Xiyue put away her trusty brick (used as a seat), stood up, and straightened her clothes.
System lifted the invisibility screen around her.
She walked over naturally, pretending to be surprised when she saw the two people on the floor.
“Huh? Yechu, why are you outside? And why are you both sitting on the ground? Come on, get up.”
She crouched down to help Chen Ye Chu.
“She said she wanted to wait for you and refused to move,” Yu Zhiyu explained softly, then turned to coax the drunk girl again.
“Yechu, Xiyue’s back now. Let’s stand up, okay? Didn’t you say you wanted to talk to her? Now you can.”
“Mm? Xi…yue…” Chen Ye Chu murmured sleepily.
Ning Xiyue helped her up, speaking in the same gentle tone Yu Zhiyu had used:
“Yechu, let’s go lie down on the kang and talk there, okay? Come on, I’ll help you up. It’ll be nice and comfy.”
Chen Ye Chu opened her bleary eyes, recognized Ning Xiyue, and threw her arms around her neck, leaning all her weight on her.
With Ning Xiyue’s support, she stood up, shouting with delight,
“Xiyue’s back! Xiyue’s back! Sleep time!”
Yu Zhiyu helped her steady herself, then stepped back, picking up his jacket and saying with a warm smile,
“Thanks for taking care of her, Xiyue.”
“Of course. You should head back—it’s getting late.”
Ning Xiyue waved and closed the door.
Outside, Yu Zhiyu lingered for a few seconds, then turned and walked toward the kitchen.
Meanwhile, Ning Qingyuan—who’d been secretly spying nearby—hurriedly straightened up and jogged back a bit,
then casually walked forward again so they could “bump into each other” naturally at the corner.
Feigning surprise, he called out,
“Hey, Brother Zhiyu! Finished up in the kitchen? Come on, let’s go to bed.”
Yu Zhiyu followed him back, smiling gratefully.
“Thanks for everything today, brother. Really appreciate it.”
Ning Qingyuan waved it off.
“No big deal. Just cleaning up the kitchen, nothing serious. Next time we cook something good, you can handle the cleanup.”
“Deal! I’ll take care of it next time,” Yu Zhiyu agreed happily.
Ning Qingyuan grinned broadly, secretly laughing to himself.
What an unexpected turn of events tonight—this guy really knew how to seize the moment.
Tomorrow, he’d have to quietly tell his sister what had happened, just to give her a heads-up.
As for that sister of his—
she was currently busy tucking Chen Ye Chu into bed.
Chen Ye Chu had crawled into Ning Xiyue’s kang, clutching her arm and rambling drunk nonsense nonstop.
One moment she was asking what day it was so she could study;
the next, she said she wanted sesame balls;
then she gushed that Yu Zhiyu was handsome and educated and that she liked him;
then she started “scooping little tadpoles looking for their mom” out of the air;
then she sat up, swatting at invisible mosquitoes, claiming they were flying near her face.
What tadpoles? Those were clearly the flower tassels on the blanket!
And mosquitoes? At this time of year, there weren’t even any around yet!
Anyone who didn’t know better would think she’d eaten psychedelic mushrooms instead of getting drunk.
This usually calm, quiet, and mature girl had completely transformed into a chatty, excitable version of Liu Yao.
The contrast was enough to give Ning Xiyue a headache.
“Even if I get beaten for it, I’m never letting you drink again. This isn’t getting drunk—it’s torture!”
Desperate for sleep, Ning Xiyue got off the kang, poured a cup of water,
and added a drop of the mango pomelo sago potion she had saved earlier.
She coaxed Chen Ye Chu into drinking it.
Within a minute, Chen Ye Chu finally fell asleep.
Ning Xiyue reached over, lifted her gently with one arm, carried her back to her own bedding, and tucked her in snugly.
The world went quiet again.
Ning Xiyue lay back down, satisfied, and closed her eyes with a small smile.
“Finally quiet. Time to sleep.”
