Chapter 131: The Magical Guesthouse King Bed
Jian Xingxia gave a brief explanation of the various facilities before heading back downstairs to receive the other guests.
Inside the room, Sister Yu and Brother Zhang were running their hands over everything, utterly amazed.
“Lao Zhang, I have to say, they really spent a fortune remodeling this room. Ever since I got pregnant, my nose has been incredibly sensitive, but this place smells like fresh grass, wood, and sun-dried cotton. It’s so comfortable and not harsh at all.”
Brother Zhang was currently making the bed for Sister Yu. They had brought six pillows—including a pregnancy pillow and various large and small support, wedge, and leg pillows—all of which had to be arranged in fixed positions.
“Xiaoyu, aren’t you tired? Lie down and rest for a bit first. I’ll call you when breakfast arrives.”
Sister Yu walked over and slowly leaned back onto the bed. Just as she was about to stuff herself into the mountain of pillows according to her habit at home, she suddenly realized that leaning directly against the bed didn’t feel uncomfortable at all.
“Huh? Lao Zhang, come try this. It feels like I can lie down without adding any extra pillows.”
She had no idea what material the mattress was made of, but as Sister Yu leaned against it, her feet didn’t feel heavy at all, as if clouds were cradling her legs.
For the lower-limb edema of late pregnancy, this was practically a miracle—there was absolutely no sense of pressure, yet the support was top-tier.
Sister Yu tried pushing away the pillows next to her hand and slowly reclined onto her side.
“Oh? Why is this pillow so comfortable? Lying down, it cradles my neck perfectly without me needing to adjust my posture.”
“And my hands… why does it feel like they’re resting on weightless cotton? Heavens, this is the first time since I got pregnant that I’ve felt so light!”
The old saying went that pregnancy meant carrying a heavy body. Sister Yu was already a bit plump to begin with, and with the pregnancy, the swelling made her terribly uncomfortable. Her legs had been swollen for two months, and it wasn’t a problem that could be solved simply by elevating them; the sheer weight of her own flesh and bone exerted an agonizing, heavy pressure on the lower parts of her body.
The reason Brother Zhang had insisted so fiercely on buying roasted chestnuts before was simply because Sister Yu’s pregnancy was too agonizing, and as her partner, his heart truly ached for her. He couldn’t share the physical burden, so he could only do everything in his power to make her happy and comfortable, even if only a little bit.
Entering the mountains today, Brother Zhang had been incredibly anxious, terrified that his wife would be uncomfortable or that some accident would happen. Therefore, the moment they arrived, he tucked her safely inside the room.
He had originally prepared a whole list of reasons to have his wife take a morning nap first, then eat something, and stay inside the room as much as possible. They could wait until there were fewer people to go out for a stroll, breathe some fresh air, and then head home—anyway, the room was paid for and the support had been delivered, so whether they actually stayed the night didn’t matter.
But to his surprise, before he could even use his reasons, Sister Yu fell in love with the room on her own.
“Really? Let me try too.” Brother Zhang smiled cheerfully and lay down beside her, turning to face her.
He only occupied a tiny edge, wanting to leave as much space as possible for Sister Yu. However, the two-meter by two-meter king bed in the suite was more than large enough for two people to lounge in whatever crooked position they pleased.
Before Sister Yu could speak, Brother Zhang suddenly froze. “Huh? My belly… it’s just being held up like this?”
Brother Zhang wasn’t old, but his belly wasn’t small. Running a shop and entertaining clients inevitably led to a beer belly. While it couldn’t compare to a pregnancy, the burden on his lower back was also heavy. He never slept very comfortably normally, as the weight always pressed down on his stomach.
But lying on his side now, Brother Zhang suddenly felt as if something pliable and soft was cradling his large belly, instantly relieving the pressure on his lower back.
The couple held hands and lay flat on the large bed, feeling as if they were resting on clouds, both light and soft.
“It’s a miracle… this works even better than the thirty-thousand-yuan mattress we have at home!”
“Yeah…”
Their voices gradually faded. The two people, who had long been tormented by sleep troubles and the burden of their weight, closed their eyes and fell fast asleep before they even realized what was happening.
A-Feng knocked on the door three times. Just as he was about to turn back after the final knock, the bedroom door finally opened.
Brother Zhang rubbed his eyes as he came to open the door. Seeing the abundant breakfast, he suddenly remembered. “Oh, I forgot, I ordered breakfast.”
Seeing that A-Feng looked spirited and sharp, Brother Zhang liked him quite a bit and spoke with a touch more warmth, “Sorry about that, little brother. Did I keep you waiting? I slept for so long… Eh? How is it only eight-fifty?”
Brother Zhang instinctively checked his phone, assuming at least an hour or two had passed. After all, he had just had an incredibly deep and comfortable sleep; though he had only just opened his eyes, his entire being felt refreshed and completely relaxed. This was bound to be the effect of a long, full slumber.
But looking at the time, Brother Zhang was dumbfounded. He couldn’t help but rub his eyes again. “How has it only been ten minutes?”
They had checked in at eight-thirty-five. Going upstairs and chatting with Xiaxia for a bit took about five minutes, so they must have lain down on the bed around eight-forty. But now, the clock displayed exactly eight-fifty.
A-Feng smiled. “You’ve only slept for less than a quarter of an hour, Guest. I brought the breakfast up the moment it was ready.”
A-Feng wasn’t accustomed to using minutes and hours yet, but he answered honestly that it hadn’t even been a quarter of an hour.
Brother Zhang accepted the breakfast somewhat dazed. “My goodness, do you even use such exquisite food boxes for breakfast?”
The food box in his hands was woven from bamboo and had two tiers, feeling quite heavy as he held it.
After seeing A-Feng off, Brother Zhang closed the door and carried the box to the table. Upon opening it, various clean, piping hot breakfast items stood revealed, still radiating steam.
Brother Zhang turned toward the bedroom inside the suite, intending to call his wife to eat. But the moment he turned his head, he saw his wife sleeping soundly, her breathing even, accompanied by a soft, gentle snore.
Staring in disbelief at the sleeping Sister Yu, Brother Zhang recalled the painful memories of the past month or so—how his wife, in her late pregnancy, suffered every night from edema, leg cramps, lower back aches, a heavy and tight belly, and a frequent urge to urinate that sent her to the bathroom every half hour. She would toss and turn, unable to sleep. He hurriedly swallowed the call that had almost left his mouth.
It had been so hard on her! His wife had actually fallen asleep! And she was sleeping so soundly!
This bed had to be magic! The moment you lay down, you drifted off! And she was sleeping deeper than a baby!
For the next hour or so, not a single one of the elaborate reasons Brother Zhang had formulated was put to use. He simply stayed by the bedside, guarding Sister Yu.
As of today, every single minute of sleep for Sister Yu was incredibly precious. And as each minute ticked by, Brother Zhang’s eyes welled with tears—it had been so long since his wife had slept this soundly without interruption!
It wasn’t until the guests downstairs gradually multiplied and voices drifted into the courtyard that Brother Zhang got up to close the window.
During this time, Jian Xingxia had already received several batches of guests one after another.
Arriving after Sister Yu’s group were three young women from the task force.
The boyfriend of one of the girls had driven them over before heading off to work overtime himself.
This batch of guests harbored no worries whatsoever—Lin Shuang was a member of the mobile government services team paired with Lu’an Village, so she came up here frequently. She felt absolute peace of mind regarding the village’s public security.
The other two girls, Ai Jinjin and Fang Xiaoying, had passed the exam and entered the same unit in the same batch, so they were highly familiar with the conditions of the villages under Jinmen Town’s jurisdiction. The three of them had come without a shred of suspicion.
The trio split a large suite at 220 yuan a night, which cost only 176 yuan after the 20% discount during the trial run. Jinjin and Xiaoying stayed in the large bedroom inside, while Lin Shuang occupied the chaise longue in the small living room, shielded by a bead curtain made of wood and bamboo and a bamboo screen, counting as an open-plan private space.
Costing less than sixty yuan per person to stay in a guesthouse suite that was a hundred times more comfortable than the dorms provided by their unit, all three were highly satisfied.
Bursting with youthful energy, the moment they finished checking in at the old house, they didn’t even care to eat breakfast, wanting instead to head straight to the stream to play.
They asked Lin Sanniang directly at the front counter, “Hello, we want to go camping by the stream and rent a set of camping gear. We aren’t going fishing, just playing in the water and camping. Which package would be best for us?”
