Sitting on the passenger transport, Xia Xiyao still felt like she was floating in a dream.

“Governor Su really is an amazing person,” Xia Xiyao murmured to herself, feeling a wave of gratitude.
Just then, her personal communicator buzzed.
The message was from her older sister, Xia Xijin.
“Are you there yet? I’m going to ask you one last time: are you absolutely certain you want to sign a life-contract with a Sword-Heart Husky?”
“You need to think this through, Xiyao. Once you sign that contract, you will never be able to return to the family.”
Xia Xijin simply couldn’t comprehend why her little sister would throw away the meticulously curated future their prestigious family had prepared for her, all because she was too stubborn to bond with the family’s traditional pet. To throw her life away on some forgotten, backwater Tier-4 planet… wasn’t she just ruining her own future?
She continued typing: “You’ve seen how desolate and primitive that planet is. How can it possibly compare to living in Athens?”
“Have you even stopped to think about why this ‘Governor Su’ offered you such incredible conditions? There’s no such thing as a free lunch in this galaxy!”
“Is it really worth throwing your life away just to be rebellious?”

Xia Xiyao read the messages, a sad smile touching her lips. She whispered to herself, “So you still just think I’m being a naughty, rebellious child…”
The Pet Home, Bathing Area.
Su Wudeng had lined up the Snow Crystal kittens and the Husky pups in a neat row. The usually chaotic, noisy bunch were surprisingly well-behaved today.
“Look at you all!” Su Wudeng praised generously, moving down the line and giving each pup and kitten an affectionate pat on the head. “You guys know today is the big day, don’t you? Today you finally get to bond with your forever masters!”
“And I promise to scrub every single one of you until you’re sparkling white and smelling amazing, so you can enter your life-contracts in absolute peak condition!”
Today was the day. Not only Xia Xiyao, but Huihui, Brother Chu, Keke, Shu Can, and Uncle Lan were all arriving to formally contract their respective pets.
The Pet Home facility had officially been relocated to the central terraformed zone of the planet. Su Wudeng had specifically prepared private, soundproofed contracting suites for each owner to ensure there were no external distractions during the bonding process.
The official contracting ceremony was scheduled for 10:00 AM. Time was ticking, so she stepped into the hallway and cupped her hands around her mouth.
“Amber!”
“Yingying!”
“Are you two done eating? We need to get started!”
“Ying-ying!”
The snow leopard was the first to arrive. Because she had to wake up early every morning to feed her own cubs, Yingying was already fully alert and energized.
Amber, on the other hand, sauntered in slowly, letting out a massive yawn and lazily wagging his tail.
“Woof. Woof.” If you ask me, they don’t even need baths. The mental link takes two seconds! Snap! It’s over before you know it!
Su Wudeng laughed. She knew exactly what the husky was doing—he was trying to get out of work. “Have you ever heard of a ‘sense of ceremony’, Amber? Stop talking nonsense and get your butt over here!”
“If you help me out, I’ll give you an extra portion of roasted chestnuts and a whole pound of premium beef jerky tonight!”
“Woof?!”
Amber’s sleepy eyes instantly snapped wide open, his tail kicking into high gear like a propeller. He trotted over happily, his entire demeanor completely reversing.
Master is absolutely right! We must ensure these young ones look their absolute best for such a momentous occasion! Do not fear, Master! I, Amber, am here to assist with this critical preparation!
Su Wudeng: “…” You are incredibly easily bought.
Because the Husky pups were at their most hyperactive, chaotic age compared to the relatively calm Snow Crystal kittens, Su Wudeng decided it was best to get them washed first before they lost their patience.
“Habao, you’re up first!”
‘Habao’ was the name Xia Xiyao had chosen for him. Because he was the only pup who was meeting his master for the very first time today, he was practically vibrating with anticipation and had obediently forced himself to the front of the line.
Su Wudeng tested the water temperature before carefully lifting Habao into the bathing basin. Without needing to be told, Habao sat perfectly still, squinting his eyes in bliss, lifting his chin, and resting his front paws on the edge of the tub, eagerly waiting for the scrubbing to begin.
His sheer obedience melted Su Wudeng’s heart. “Look at you! Why are you being such an angel today, Habao?”
“Woof! Woof!” Sister, you have to scrub me really good! This is the first time I’m meeting my master, and I want to look absolutely perfect for her!
Su Wudeng burst out laughing. “You’ve got a deal. I didn’t realize you cared so much about first impressions at your age!”
“Don’t worry! Sister is going to give you a blowout and style your fur perfectly. We’re going to completely charm your new master!”
“Sound good?”
Habao’s little tail wagged furiously, splashing water everywhere. “Woof! Woof!”
Soon enough, Habao was fully groomed and looking incredibly sharp!
Su Wudeng held him up in front of the full-length mirror so he could inspect her work.
In the reflection, Habao’s coat had been meticulously brushed out, the deep blues and grays looking vibrant and glossy. The fur around his ears and cheeks had been neatly trimmed, giving his face a perfectly round, fluffy appearance. His bright blue eyes sparkled with lively intelligence.
He was still very young, so his eyes lacked the deep, tactical wisdom of Amber’s, radiating pure, unadulterated cuteness instead. He raised a tiny paw against the glass, admiring how the pads had been scrubbed to a flawless, tender pink.
Habao proudly strutted back and forth in front of the mirror a few times, his tail held high.
Look at this posture. Look at this coat. I am absolutely flawless!
Watching the tiny pup act so incredibly conceited, Su Wudeng couldn’t contain her laughter.
She pulled out her terminal and recorded a short video of Habao posing narcissistically in front of the mirror, occasionally twisting around to admire his own fluffy tail.

After sending the message, she didn’t stick around to read the replies. She still had five more squirming babies to bathe, dry, and style.
But after today, she thought with a smile, bath time is officially the masters’ problem.
Just then, Professor Yang walked into the bathing area, rolling up his sleeves. “Governor Su, let me give you a hand.”
“I knew you wouldn’t be able to wrangle all of them by yourself. Since I’m not contracting anyone today, I figured I’d come make myself useful.”
Su Wudeng lifted Hashuai into the tub and looked over at the older man. “Professor Yang, are you absolutely certain you don’t want to sign a contract? I genuinely think Xiaohua has grown really attached to you.”
Xiaohua was the Snow Crystal kitten Professor Yang had initially reserved. However, when Su Wudeng sent out the final confirmation notices yesterday, the professor had messaged her privately, stating he was withdrawing his application.
“Ah,” Professor Yang sighed, picking up a towel to help dry. “At my age, what right do I have to tie down a young creature like Xiaohua? I’d only be a burden to her in the long run.”
“Besides, the one Xiaohua really bonded with wasn’t me… it was Yueyue.”
Yueyue was Professor Yang’s granddaughter. Su Wudeng knew the young girl lived with her mother back on the capital planet. The professor had mentioned before that Yueyue desperately wanted to visit the Pet Home, but her mother flatly refused to let her travel to the outer rim, constantly pressuring Professor Yang to return to the core worlds instead.
A warm, loving smile spread across the professor’s face at the mention of his granddaughter. “Now that I think about it, it was Yueyue who begged me to reserve Xiaohua in the first place.”
“I never expected that when I video-called Yueyue, she and Xiaohua would instantly click through the screen like that.”
He looked at Su Wudeng hesitantly. “Governor… could I ask a massive favor of you? Do you think Xiaohua could wait here until Yueyue is old enough to come get her?”
“Professor,” Su Wudeng replied gently, “you know my policy. It all comes down to what Xiaohua wants.”
But in her heart, she was fairly certain Xiaohua had already chosen Yueyue. If the kitten had wanted to bond with anyone else, she would have made her intentions clear by now.
“I know, I know,” Professor Yang said, looking visibly relieved. Watching the chaotic, joyful energy of the pups around him instantly lifted his spirits.
He let out a contented sigh. “These little ones are so incredibly lucky to have crossed paths with a governor like you.”
Meanwhile, in the private contracting group chat, the video Su Wudeng had posted instantly ignited a frenzy among the prospective owners.

Xia Xiyao laughed out loud, staring at the absolute joy radiating from Habao’s bright blue eyes in the video.

Su Wudeng unlatched the heavy double doors of the grooming bay, and the six meticulously groomed, incredibly excited pups and kittens poured out into the hallway, sprinting toward their respective master’s suites.
Watching them scatter, a sudden, heavy wave of emotion washed over Su Wudeng.
When they had first arrived, they had been nothing but fragile, dying scraps of fur. Now, they were vibrant, healthy, and bounding toward humans who were going to love them unconditionally.
She was incredibly happy for them.
Professor Yang noticed her wistful expression and smiled gently. “What’s wrong, Governor? Having a hard time letting them go?”
Su Wudeng sighed, not bothering to hide it. “Yeah. They were so incredibly small when they got here. Time really flew by. In the blink of an eye, they grew up, and now it’s time for them to leave the nest.”
Professor Yang nodded sympathetically. “It always feels like it goes by too fast.”
“But I have to ask,” the professor continued. “If it hurts so much to let them go, why do you insist on finding them masters? Given your resources, you could easily afford to keep and raise all of them yourself.”
Su Wudeng shook her head. “Because raising a pet isn’t just about providing high-quality kibble and clean water. It’s about giving them immense, undivided love and attention.”
“A person’s capacity for love and time is finite. If I kept hoarding every animal I saved, my attention would eventually become fractured. I wouldn’t be able to give each of them the devotion they deserve.”
“But look at them now. Every single one of these kids is walking into a room with a master who is entirely, wholly devoted to them.”
“This is the absolute best outcome for them.”
Professor Yang listened quietly, deeply moved by her profound sense of responsibility. “You have nothing to worry about, Governor. You’ve done a spectacular job.”

When Aihua had first been deployed to the Ether Front, the panda had been incredibly hyper-vigilant and hostile toward the soldiers. She wouldn’t even let anyone stay in the same room while she ate, violently chasing out anyone who dared to watch her chew her bamboo.
But General Chu was relentlessly stubborn. Even if it meant getting physically battered by a bear, he continuously initiated contact to try and bond with her.
After all, Aihua was an Iron-Eating Beast! Setting aside her apocalyptic combat metrics, her perfectly round, fluffy aesthetic completely melted the battle-hardened general’s heart.
As for getting beaten up? Let her hit me! It’s not like she’s going to kill me! As long as I’m still breathing, I can get back up and try to pet her again!
Eventually, Aihua had simply become numb to his relentless affection. She realized that swatting him away accomplished nothing, so she eventually just let him sit there and stare at her while she ate.
Furthermore, with General Chu constantly hovering around her, none of the other soldiers dared to approach, saving her the hassle of having to beat up multiple humans a day.
It had gotten to the point where General Chu actually recorded “eating broadcasts” of the panda for his own amusement.
[Ether Front – Gen. Chu (Aihua)]: Oh, by the way, @Governor_Su, Aihua went absolutely crazy for those roasted pine nuts you sent us in the last supply drop! Do you happen to have any more?
[Governor Su]: Absolutely! I’ll include a massive batch for her in the next shipment! Are your forces still actively pursuing the 7th Zerg Legion?
[Ether Front – Gen. Chu (Aihua)]: We are. But the tactical situation is highly irregular. The Zerg’s swarm behavior is completely abnormal right now. My recon teams are actively investigating the anomaly.

Inside her private room, Huihui was nervously repeating the contracting protocols out loud like a mantra.

Suddenly, a soft thump against the door interrupted her. Huihui’s eyes widened. It had to be Baiyun!
She scrambled to open the door. Standing in the hallway was a pristine, fluffy snow leopard cub, spinning in excited circles and letting out high-pitched mews.
“Baiyun!”
Huihui dropped to her knees and threw her arms open. Baiyun launched himself directly into her embrace.
“Are you ready for this, Baiyun?” she whispered, staring nervously into his silver eyes.
Baiyun stretched his neck out, affectionately rubbing his cold nose against her chin, before raising two large, soft paws and gently pressing them against her cheeks.
“Meow~”
Similar heartwarming scenes were playing out in the other suites for the Snow Crystal kittens.
On the Husky side of the facility, the process was equally smooth.
The first to successfully formalize their bond was Habao and Xia Xiyao. Coming from an ancient, elite beastmaster dynasty, Xia Xiyao had been strictly educated in the theoretical mechanics of spiritual binding since she was a toddler. In terms of academic knowledge, she outclassed her peers entirely.
Her only hurdle had been practical application—her absolute refusal and terror of bonding with a reptilian familiar.
But sitting across from an adorable, enthusiastic Husky pup was an entirely different story.
Because Habao was so young, he hadn’t yet undergone any formal mental conditioning. He didn’t know how to consciously initiate a telepathic tether with a human mind. Therefore, the burden of establishing the link fell entirely on Xia Xiyao.
