Chapter 81: It Seems Like They Really Became a Couple
Lin Yuejiu covered her face with one hand and stepped out first.
Outside, the staff member saw them emerge and smiled. “Congratulations to both of you for successfully completing the haunted house.”
“…Thank you,” they replied.
“This haunted house adventure was a special couples edition. Were you satisfied with today’s arrangement?”
Lin Yuejiu didn’t respond, but Xu Nianshen nodded politely, satisfied—after all, he had gotten the best part.
“Wonderful. Thank you very much. Now, you may participate in the prize draw.”
Hearing “prize draw,” Lin Yuejiu perked up. She reached into the box, pulled out a slip, and handed it to the staff member.
The staff member opened it and smiled. “You’re lucky! Congratulations—you’ve won a unique couples keychain set.”
Lin Yuejiu asked curiously, “How unique?”
“This set is the only one in the entire amusement park.”
“Oh, that’s pretty unique. What does it look like?”
The staff member smiled and took out the one-of-a-kind keychains.
Lin Yuejiu glanced at them and then exchanged a look with Xu Nianshen. Both fell into silence.
The keychains were cartoon representations of the haunted house staff—two little ghosts, one male and one female. The female ghost smiled, and the male ghost looked at her.
If these were real people, it would look even more beautiful—but unfortunately, they were just ghosts.
“Oh, and there’s an extra set of photos.”
Both looked up simultaneously.
The staff member handed them over. “These were taken while you completed the tasks inside the haunted house. Each task has two photos—one for each of you.”
Lin Yuejiu took them and looked through them one by one. The first photo showed them with fingers interlaced, the second showed them hugging, and the third showed Xu Nianshen protecting her head as he pulled her close.
Fortunately, the haunted house staff had some conscience—they hadn’t taken photos of the wall slam.
They thanked the staff and left the haunted house.
Lin Yuejiu held up the photos. “One each?”
“Mm.”
“And what about the keychains?” she asked Xu Nianshen, looking troubled.
“They’re our prize, and this is the only set in the entire park. We should treasure them.”
“Alright.” Lin Yuejiu handed him the other keychain. “What should we do next?”
“What do you want to do?”
“…As long as it’s not too intense, I’m fine.”
Xu Nianshen smiled. “Then we’ll do something not too intense.”
“For example?”
A few minutes later, they sat on the Ferris wheel.
“I didn’t expect you to actually bring me on a Ferris wheel,” Lin Yuejiu said, her hand resting on the seat, smiling.
“What’s wrong?” Xu Nianshen raised an eyebrow. “You didn’t imagine me doing this?”
She nodded. “Yeah, I didn’t think cold and aloof Xu Nianshen would bring a girl on this.”
Xu Nianshen leaned back, hands behind his head, speaking with mock helplessness. “What can I do? You can’t handle intense rides. If anything happens to you, I’d be the one hurt.”
“Hurt?”
He extended his hand, showing the pale back still marked with scratch marks.
Lin Yuejiu silently turned her head to look out the window as the Ferris wheel slowly ascended, revealing a wider view. They gradually approached the blue sky.
Occasional clouds blocked the sun, scattering sunlight in fragments across the city, casting different shapes and patterns.
“Hey, Xu Nianshen.”
“Mm?”
Have you ever heard the Ferris wheel legend?”
“What legend?”
“You know… the one a lot of people talk about.”
“You mean the one where couples who kiss at the top of the Ferris wheel will stay in love forever?”
Lin Yuejiu turned to look at him in surprise. “Huh, you know about that?”
Xu Nianshen chuckled at her. “Do you think I’m some idiot who knows nothing besides studying?”
Lin Yuejiu giggled.
“Why bring it up all of a sudden?” His lips curved into a teasing smile. “Are you going to try it?”
This was probably a rare moment of Xu Nianshen being playful. He expected her to blush, but instead, she just glared at him.
“What are you thinking about every day?” she said.
Xu Nianshen shrugged. “I thought you might believe it.”
She shook her head. “I don’t believe it.”
“So why bring it up?”
“I wanted to ask if you believe it.”
“I don’t.”
Her reaction was exactly as Xu Nianshen expected—she didn’t seem like someone who would believe in legends.
“Legends are just legends. It’s fun to listen, but I’m a realistic person. Happiness comes from your own efforts, not just a legend,” Lin Yuejiu said, looking out at the sky.
Xu Nianshen lowered his hands from behind his head. “Same here.”
At that moment, the Ferris wheel reached its highest point. They glanced at each other, smiled, and high-fived at the very top.
Among the bustling crowd, finding someone who shares your ideals is truly lucky.
They also took a photo at the peak, standing with their backs to the sky. The sunlight blurred their faces, leaving their facial contours visible. One stray strand of hair seemed to twist with another strand from the other person, like two vines intertwining.
After the Ferris wheel ride, Xu Nianshen had planned to leave, but Lin Yuejiu insisted they continue having fun since they were already there.
“Weren’t you scared?” he asked.
“I said I’d go all the way with you.”
A smile appeared in Xu Nianshen’s eyes. “Alright, let’s go then.”
They went on the giant swing, the pirate ship, and other rides. Lin Yuejiu was thrilled and excited.
By evening, they finally left the amusement park.
Xu Nianshen handed her a pink cotton candy. “Teacher Xu had a lot of fun today. Thank you, student.”
Lin Yuejiu took it, smiling at him. “You’re welcome.”
They stood up together and headed back, eventually boarding a bus.
Meanwhile, Chen Qianxi, just leaving the amusement park, looked at the photos on her phone. She then glanced at the two on the bus, rubbed her eyes, and looked again at the photo, zooming in. She wasn’t mistaken—they were her OTP!
They had just come out of the amusement park, meaning… they’d been on a date?!
Chen Qianxi’s eyes widened, and she quickly looked down at the photo she’d taken.
In the picture, the girl held pink cotton candy and smiled up at the tall, handsome boy.
Chen Qianxi got excited—she felt like she had just discovered a real-life couple!
Her parents, watching their daughter tremble with excitement, exchanged a glance. “This child… she just went to the amusement park, why is she so worked up?”
Chen Qianxi immediately told her dad, “Dad, I need to go back to school!”
Her parents: “??? Daughter, are you okay?”
What was going on with their normally reluctant-to-go-to-school daughter? She usually stayed home longer, never wanting to go, and now she suddenly wanted to rush back?
Chen Qianxi didn’t care about what her parents were thinking—she only wanted to return to her dorm and ask Lin Yuejiu for the full story.
Her gossiping instincts were burning fiercely!
