Chapter 300: A Direct Touch
The thunderstorm’s magnetic field was constantly expanding outward, bringing the violent electromagnetic explosions closer and closer.
The sky and earth were pitched in total darkness. An incredibly fierce blizzard raged, as if trying to swallow the entire world into a dead, frozen silence.
Remaining anywhere near the anomaly’s radius was extremely dangerous; one careless move, and a person would be sucked into the magnetic field, their body instantly destroyed.
Yet, right at the edge of this lethal vortex, an aircraft hovered mid-air. Dangling from a thick rope beneath it, Shadow was struggling to climb up. Gritting his teeth, he finally grabbed the edge of the open hatch and hauled himself inside, pulling up the heavy tether along with the person attached below.
Shadow’s body was covered in countless lacerations, his tactical uniform shredded by the magnetic field’s violent currents. The second operative in the cabin immediately took the controls to steady the aircraft, while the first reached down and hauled up Xiao Xiao, who had been dangling unconscious in the freezing air.
The temperature outside was horrifyingly low, and Xiao Xiao’s condition was critical. Shadow immediately rushed the boy into the aircraft’s thermal recovery chamber.
The external hatch remained open. Shadow stood by the edge, waiting to pull Brother Duan and Miss Pei up with the rest of the rope.
The heavy tether continued to swing wildly in the gale. Shadow gave it a hard tug and shouted into the pitch-black abyss below, “Brother Duan! Hold on tight! I’m pulling you and Miss Pei up right now!”
But as he threw all his weight into pulling the rope up, the line suddenly went slack. The severed end whipped into the cabin—it had been completely charred through by the electric current.
He stared down into the endless darkness beneath his feet, his fingers trembling around the frayed fibers.
Suddenly, a voice called out from above. Shadow looked up to see another aircraft hovering just overhead.
Ling Lang stood at the edge of his open hatch. “Where are they?”
Shadow held up the charred rope. “Brother Duan should still be with Miss Pei, but the tether broke. We need to determine their exact location.”
Ling Lang swung down via a boarding ladder, landing heavily onto their aircraft’s deck. He carefully examined the burned rope, his expression grim. “The destructive power of this thunderstorm zone is truly terrifying.”
To think it had actually burned straight through a specialized, military-grade tether—a top-tier synthetic material designed to be entirely fireproof, waterproof, and electrically insulated.
He looked up at the raging magnetic field behind them. Tossing the ladder aside, he spoke without looking back. “I’m going down there to look for them. You pilot this aircraft out of here immediately. Keep your distance from this sector—the further, the better!”
Shadow quickly grabbed his arm to stop him. “Major General, wait! We can’t determine their location right now, but when Brother Duan caught the rope earlier, he gave us an order. He said that if he and Miss Pei were sucked into the vortex, we should wait for them at the magnetic field’s exit coordinates. He guaranteed they would find a way out.”
“Exit? What exit?!” Ling Lang snapped. He had been fighting on the front lines for years, and every single time they encountered this kind of magnetic field, standard protocol was to detour immediately. Plunging directly into the core? Even if they miraculously survived the initial impact, how long would it take to find a way out?
Every extra second spent inside was a dance with death.
“That was the Chief Judge’s explicit order,” Shadow insisted firmly. “He also commanded that if any backup rescue forces arrived, they were strictly forbidden from entering the anomaly and must evacuate the area immediately.”
“Did he really say that?”
“Yes. When he caught our line, Miss Pei was already unconscious from the cold. He ordered us to pull ourselves up first and explicitly told us not to worry about them.”
Ling Lang frowned. “Where is Qiu Chao?”
“Captain Qiu is currently executing another mission.”
“Where’s San She?”
“Captain San She is currently managing the wounded.”
Ling Lang gritted his teeth. “No, it’s too dangerous in there. I have to go in and find my brother and Pei Xiqing. Even if he’s confident… I can’t gamble with their lives.”
“Major General!” Shadow struggled to hold him back.
“Ling Lang,” San She’s voice suddenly crackled sharply over the comms channel. “Since Brother Duan has willingly chosen to go in, it means he has already calculated an escape route for himself and Miss Pei. He knows exactly what the situation is like inside that anomaly. Even if he acts impulsively sometimes, Brother Duan would never gamble with Miss Pei’s life. Stand down.”
Ling Lang gripped the metal ladder tightly, his eyes blazing with worry and frustration. “But what if something happens to him?”
“Qiu Chao analyzed the data,” San She replied. “He concluded that the ones in the most danger were us and the refugees in the fleet. Ironically, Brother Duan and Miss Pei are currently the safest people out here.”
“How is that possible?”
“Have you forgotten how Miss Pei recovered her health?” San She asked quietly.
Ling Lang took a sharp breath, the realization hitting him like a physical blow. In the chaos, he had almost forgotten. Pei Xiqing had nearly died not long ago. She had only been saved after Duan Xiaolin systematically fed her hundreds of high-grade crystal cores, fundamentally altering her body. His brother must have made sufficient preparations and calculations before deliberately taking her into that magnetic field.
Blind panic would only lead to fatal mistakes. Forcing himself to calm down, Ling Lang stepped back from the open hatch. “Alright. We’ll rendezvous with the main fleet first, find a safe sector to rest, do a headcount, and repair the damaged aircraft. We will wait for them at the exit coordinates.”
“Understood!” Shadow replied.
Ling Lang walked further into the cabin and noticed the unconscious boy in the thermal chamber. “Who is this?”
“A kid who was traveling with Miss Pei. He’s one of the refugees,” Shadow explained. “He actually knows how to pilot these transports, so she had him co-pilot to help secure the safe route. He suffered severe electric shocks and frostbite.”
“Transfer him to the medical team for immediate treatment.”
“Yes, sir.”
Meanwhile, deep within the thunderstorm’s magnetic field, the environment was terrifyingly dark and freezing cold.
Not a single ray of light could penetrate the dense storm clouds. Layers of violent electric currents formed a massive, suffocating net—an airtight cage with no weak points to break through. It was an absolute death trap. Anyone locked inside would have to constantly endure waves of tornado-like winds and a colossal, invisible gravity constantly threatening to tear their bodies apart.
After Pei Xiqing passed out, her body had been subjected to the extreme apocalyptic cold. It felt as though she had been tightly entombed in solid ice, her limbs entirely numb and devoid of feeling. The initial, piercing agony of the frost had frozen her to the core; she felt so brittle that a single touch might shatter her into a million pieces.
The agonizing cold lasted for an indeterminate amount of time before her body miraculously began to warm up.
Slowly, her consciousness began to piece itself back together. Drawn by that comforting, enveloping warmth, Pei Xiqing struggled to open her eyes.
Her eyelids felt incredibly heavy, as if weighed down by a thousand pounds. The external environment still exerted a crushing pressure, tempting her to slip back into a deep, eternal sleep. A fierce battle raged within her mind. A seductive voice whispered in her head, urging her to just let go and rest, but a primal survival instinct screamed that if she fell asleep now, she would never wake up.
After several agonizing attempts, Pei Xiqing’s eyelashes fluttered, and she finally forced her eyes open.
She was greeted by an endless expanse of darkness.
It was pitch black, devoid of any color or light. The only distinct sensory input was the constant, deafening crackle of electricity sparking all around them.
Pei Xiqing instinctively tried to sit up and move away from the noise, but the moment she shifted, a firm hand gently pushed her back down.
The tip of her nose bumped against a broad, hard chest. She instantly recognized his faint, familiar scent, though it was now heavily mixed with the sharp, metallic tang of fresh blood.
Raising her head, she couldn’t see a single thing in the oppressive darkness, so she reached out, navigating blindly by touch.
Her fingers brushed over the solid planes of his chest, sliding downwards to trace the hard, defined ridges of his abdomen beneath his ruined shirt.
Before she could explore further, a large hand abruptly clamped around her wrist.
With a slight, effortless tug, he pulled her securely against his chest. The man deliberately lowered his voice, a husky, dangerous amusement coloring his tone. “Miss Pei, exactly what are your intentions?”
Chapter 302: Pointing the Way
The eye of the thunderstorm was only “safe” in the sense that they weren’t exposed to the apocalyptic blizzards that would instantly freeze a person solid outside.
Beyond that, it was still a chaotic electromagnetic anomaly spawned by an unnatural disaster. The sheer level of danger lurking in the dark here was likely higher, not lower, than the storm outside.
Pei Xiqing slowed her pace, taking every step forward with extreme caution.
Despite her careful guidance, the man following behind her seemed entirely relaxed, strolling through the lethal magnetic field as if he were just taking a leisurely walk in the park.
Pei Xiqing paused and looked back. She saw him studying the loose gravel beneath his boots. “Brother Duan, what are you looking at?”
Duan Xiaolin crouched down and picked up a piece of jagged stone, examining its texture. “I’m assessing the environmental conditions that generated this magnetic field.”
“Any findings?”
“This area was likely inhabited before the disasters.”
“Well, the apocalypse should have destroyed everything around here a long time ago,” she pointed out.
“It’s similar to the abandoned power station we encountered near the Ghost Market,” he explained smoothly. “Both anomalies formed deep underground. They are the result of a nuclear power leak reacting violently under the immense pressure of catastrophic flooding. Over the past few years, the ambient energy gradually synthesized into the massive electromagnetic field we are walking through right now.”
He tossed the stone aside. And for awakened users with lightning-based abilities, this concentrated energy made the field an unparalleled cultivation ground.
Pei Xiqing squatted down beside him, pondering his words. “So that’s what happened…”
No wonder her body had reacted so strongly, and no wonder she was immune to the ambient currents.
But understanding the anomaly didn’t change the fact that their top priority was finding a way out.
She dusted off her hands, stood up, and surveyed their surroundings. Aside from the small flame flickering from her lighter, there wasn’t a single source of light.
The silence was absolute, save for the ceaseless, terrifying crackle of electricity. Sometimes the hissing sounded like it was right next to her ear, ready to strike her dead in the next second, and other times it echoed from far away. The unpredictable noise constantly grated against her eardrums and frayed her nerves. The dread instilled by the invisible electric currents was honestly far worse than facing a horde of snarling zombies.
At least zombies gave you a warning before they attacked. You could brace yourself and fight back. But these lethal electrical discharges could burst from the ground without any warning whatsoever.
She knew exactly what it felt like to be electrocuted. It was safe to say that if she hadn’t absorbed the energy of the Horned Snake, she would have been charred black like Xiao Xiao by now. And being burned beyond recognition would have been the least of her problems.
The electricity crackling through this specific magnetic field felt distinctly different from anything she had encountered before. Even just looking at the color—deep, bruised purple mixed with a sickly, luminescent blue—made it obvious that the current was laced with some sort of specialized, mutated substance.
With every careful step she took, the ground crackled ominously. Several times, she accidentally stepped on concentrated currents that slithered across the gravel like countless slender, glowing worms. The moment her boot made contact, a sensation like thousands of needles violently pricking her foot forced her to jerk back instinctively.
The man steadied her shoulders, his voice low. “Are you alright?”
“Hiss…” She winced, almost losing her balance. “That actually hurt a little.”
“The path this way is blocked. Let’s try heading the other way.”
“Okay.”
Pei Xiqing gripped his hand tightly. If Duan Xiaolin hadn’t been here by her side, the oppressive darkness and constant threat of electrocution probably would have scared her out of her wits.
Honestly, her own imagination was the most terrifying part. She couldn’t shake the creeping feeling that something strange, horrifying, and utterly disgusting was going to lunge out of the pitch-black void at any moment.
She kept taking deep, steadying breaths to calm her racing heart. The man beside her, however, remained perfectly calm and unhurried. Seeking comfort, she couldn’t help but inch closer and closer to him.
By now, she was practically using his broad frame as a shield against the oppressive atmosphere, crowding him with every step. At first, she had been the one cautiously leading the way and directing Duan Xiaolin, but eventually, she had turned into a little shadow, closely following wherever he stepped.
The two of them walked in tandem, leaving a solitary trail of footprints in the dust.
Crouching slightly to inspect the ground ahead, Pei Xiqing suddenly spotted something strange. She lowered the lighter to get a better look. The flickering flame illuminated a rotting, severed human arm half-buried in the rubble.
Repulsed, she quickly kicked it away.
But to her horror, the severed arm twitched. As if locking onto her presence, it suddenly launched itself through the air, scrambling wildly toward her.
Pei Xiqing shrieked and dodged sideways.
Missing its target, the arm immediately pivoted, launching itself straight toward Duan Xiaolin.
Unfortunately for the undead limb, before it could even get within a foot of him, it inexplicably lost its momentum and dropped lifelessly to the ground.
Duan Xiaolin calmly crouched down and picked up the rotting appendage.
Pei Xiqing cautiously crept back over. “There might be parasitic bugs inside it. It’s already rotting to the bone—how else could it still move like that?”
“The intense magnetic field is definitely causing severe biological disturbances,” he noted, inspecting the mangled flesh. “A lot of things are starting to behave irrationally in here.”
“But why did it suddenly attack us?”
“It might not have been an attack.”
“Then what was it doing?”
Duan Xiaolin raised his eyes, a cold, calculating glint flashing in the darkness. “…It was trying to show us the way.”
An arm showing them the way?
Was it trying to point them toward an exit, or was it looking for something specific? No matter how she tried to rationalize it, the concept was utterly absurd.
Sure enough, a few seconds later, several fat, luminescent bugs wriggled out from the severed stump of the arm. The insects scuttled rapidly across the ground, leading a trail back to a large pile of rubble. As they watched, the debris shifted, and a mangled, incomplete torso slowly emerged from the rocks.
The arm hadn’t been attacking them. It had been animated by the magnetic field and the parasitic insects residing within it. Sensing the warmth of living humans, the bugs had actively propelled the limb forward.
Seeing the gruesome torso shifting in the rubble, Pei Xiqing took a step forward, intending to investigate further. But Duan Xiaolin immediately grabbed her arm, stopping her.
He casually dropped the severed hand, his eyes turning icy. “Don’t bother with it. Let’s keep moving.”
“…Alright.” Since he had explicitly told her to leave it alone, there had to be something far more dangerous lurking behind the appearance of that corpse.
A body reanimating in the exact center of a nuclear magnetic field was absolutely not a simple coincidence.
They continued walking. But after covering just a few dozen meters, she spotted another severed arm protruding from the gravel near her feet. Even without checking, she knew there had to be a mutilated body buried directly underneath.
Pei Xiqing managed to keep her composure when she saw the first one, the second, and the third… but her stomach dropped when she saw the tenth. Then the hundredth. Then the thousandth…
Soon, there were tens of thousands.
She stood frozen in place, completely unsure of where to even step.
Countless corpses littered the ground ahead of them. Furthermore, the vast majority of the bodies had been violently torn apart and severely butchered. Severed limbs and hollowed-out torsos were caught in the ambient magnetic currents, floating and twitching aimlessly through the dark air.
The scene was unspeakably grotesque and bizarre.
Pei Xiqing’s mouth fell open, her face draining of all color.
Just how many people died here?!
Duan Xiaolin, on the other hand, was entirely unfazed. He treated the horrifying mass grave like a routine investigation site, carefully analyzing the layout.
“Aren’t you worried about being electrocuted?” Pei Xiqing asked softly, watching him step over a sparking corpse. So far, he hadn’t shown any obvious signs of pain from the ambient radiation.
“I’m fine.”
Pei Xiqing grabbed his hand and quickly pressed a kiss to his knuckles, checking his pulse and temperature. It was true; there really wasn’t anything unusual about his condition.
She looked up at him. “What did you figure out?”
“This area used to be a major underground city. After being flooded and destroyed by the natural disasters, the nuclear leak transformed it into this magnetic field,” he explained. “But more importantly, directly beneath this specific sector was the main headquarters for one of the largest black market syndicates. These bodies must have been unearthed and brought up by the shifting currents.”
“This is just… it’s too much,” she whispered, horrified by the sheer scale of the slaughter.
“It’s standard practice in the black market,” he said nonchalantly, his tone as casual as if he hadn’t spent years ruthlessly hunting down and executing the very people who ran these syndicates. “From birth until death, a person’s value is meticulously calculated. They are injected with experimental viruses, tested, and then systematically butchered piece by piece to squeeze every last drop of profit from their flesh and organs. Everything you see here had a clearly marked price tag on the black market.”
“No wonder almost all of these corpses only have limbs left, and their torsos are completely hollowed out,” she murmured, a wave of nausea hitting her. She frowned. “But with the natural disasters wiping out so much of humanity’s living space, shouldn’t the black market have been forced to restrain themselves?”
“Not necessarily.” Duan Xiaolin’s gaze was dark and cynical. “The more severe the disaster, the more desperate people become. And the more desperate people become, the more unscrupulously the maggots hiding in the dark will act.”
The two of them carefully navigated through the horrific graveyard, circling the magnetic field several times to map the perimeter. They didn’t stop moving, but the cavernous space was simply too massive. They walked for what felt like hours, tracing the outer edge of the anomaly without ever crossing their own path. It felt as though the road ahead was infinite, a terrifying loop with no exit in sight.
After a while, Pei Xiqing’s mouth grew painfully dry. Strangely, her body wasn’t cold anymore; instead, a burning, restless heat began to build in her chest, making her feel flushed and feverish.
Unable to bear the stifling heat, she couldn’t help but strip off her heavy tactical coat, fanning her face with her hand as she walked. “Why does it feel like this place is endless? It’s getting so hard to breathe…”
Duan Xiaolin stopped, staring at her flushed face intently. He quickly found a relatively clean spot behind a large pile of rubble and brushed the dust off a flat stone, patting the seat next to him. “Sit down and rest for a while.”
Pei Xiqing’s body temperature continued to rise as she walked over. By the time she sat down, she had shed her outer layers, leaving her wearing only a tight-fitting, sweat-dampened camisole.
She absentmindedly played with the ends of her long, dark hair. Her pupils had grown slightly dilated and misty, and in the dim, flickering light, her flushed skin looked as soft and flawless as jade.
Noticing the man’s intense, unblinking gaze fixed upon her, she blinked in confusion. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
Chapter 303: Running For Our Lives, Stop Seducing Me
“Do you want to go back?” he asked.
“Do you? Or do you not want to?” she countered.
They were trapped inside, completely cut off from the outside world with no way of knowing what was happening out there. Naturally, she wanted to get out to see how everyone was faring and whether the fleet had safely bypassed the violent magnetic field.
But the way he asked the question made her sense a hidden meaning.
Pei Xiqing looked up at him with a teasing smile. “What’s wrong? You don’t want to leave? Do you want to be trapped in here with me forever? There’s nothing good in this place. It’s full of rotting corpses, and there isn’t even a decent bed. If we stay down here too long, we’ll definitely die of hunger and thirst, and end up just like them.”
Speaking of which, her mouth really was feeling incredibly dry.
Duan Xiaolin reached into his coat and pulled out a bottle of water.
Pei Xiqing’s eyes lit up in surprise. “You actually brought water?”
“I always carry some with me.”
“First I was freezing to death, and now I’m dying of thirst,” she muttered. Unable to wait, she unscrewed the cap and took several large gulps. When it was half empty, she handed it back to him. “Here, you drink some too.”
Duan Xiaolin shook his head gently. “This is the only bottle we have. Drink it sparingly and save the rest for yourself.”
Pei Xiqing leaned closer to him. “Are you really not going to drink? Aren’t you thirsty? We might be stuck here for quite a while longer.”
Duan Xiaolin’s gaze dropped to her lips, which were slick and glistening from the water.
Whenever they weren’t in bed, his kisses were always much gentler and less aggressive. Yet, that tender touch often carried a far more deadly attraction, making it absolutely impossible to pull away.
He kissed the corner of her mouth, slowly trailing his lips down along her jawline to her neck. His hands mapped the curves of her body, leaving a lingering, burning sensation wherever his fingertips brushed her skin.
The light around them had long since faded after she turned off the lighter. In the pitch-black darkness, only the sound of their intertwined breathing and racing heartbeats could be heard. Although she couldn’t see Duan Xiaolin’s expression, she could vividly feel the intense, radiating heat of his body.
Pei Xiqing closed her eyes, her breathing growing erratic as she pressed softly against his chest. His hot breath brushed against her bare neck and shoulders, making her shiver with a teasing itch.
The man’s body temperature was running incredibly hot. Clutching the water bottle tightly in one hand, Pei Xiqing tried to playfully dodge his advances, squirming left and right. But her efforts were useless. He easily caught her by the waist, lifting her up and settling her securely onto his lap.
Pei Xiqing leaned in and whispered, “This place… really isn’t appropriate.”
The environment was far too harsh, not to mention the violently unstable magnetic field threatening to unleash a deadly thunderstorm at any moment.
Duan Xiaolin gave her waist a light squeeze and smiled unapologetically in the dark. “Then I suppose I’ll just have to endure it.”
Pei Xiqing wrapped her arms loosely around his neck. “I think you should practice a bit more self-restraint.” Instead of constantly grabbing and kissing her at every opportunity.
He tightened his arm around her waist, lifting her slightly higher against him. “Do you think I lack restraint?”
“Of course,” she teased. “A truly disciplined man can remain completely calm and unfazed, even when a woman actively tries to seduce him. He wouldn’t even bat an eye.”
“At this point, I’m afraid that’s impossible for me.”
Having Pei Xiqing sitting so intimately in his arms, feeling her soft, delicate skin pressed against him, was already pushing the limits of what he could bear.
The man stared at her face through the darkness, his eyes narrowing slightly. Without the barrier of his silver-rimmed glasses, his gaze felt infinitely more explicit and direct. Slowly, he changed the subject. “This place actually leads straight to the Sixth Base.”
“What?” Pei Xiqing’s eyes widened in sheer disbelief.
This hellish, corpse-filled pit led directly to the Sixth Base?
“How did you figure that out?” she guessed. “Was it the bodies?”
“Not entirely.” Duan Xiaolin kept her securely on his lap as he gently brushed some dust from her bare shoulder. “Part of the reason this magnetic field even formed in the first place is because a massive tunnel was once excavated here, connecting straight to the Sixth Base.”
“They dug a tunnel all the way out here?”
“Do you remember how quickly the Sixth Base rose to prominence right after the Third Base was destroyed?”
Pei Xiqing nodded. “I remember.”
She had still been surviving out in the wilderness back then. The Third Base had been heavily devastated by a sudden attack from the Pak-Kuang syndicate, leaving many survivors completely blindsided. Almost immediately after, rumors spread that a “Sixth Base” had sprung up overnight, rapidly establishing itself as one of the largest, most powerful hubs in the apocalypse.
She distinctly remembered how Franlun had begun systematically purging the Black Army shortly after, and their operations had heavily targeted that new base. She had never known the exact details of what transpired behind the scenes, only that the origins of the Sixth Base were far from simple.
“The underground passage connecting to this area had already been fully excavated by then,” he explained.
“What was its purpose?”
“It was used for illicit underground trading and to secretly store thousands of corpses. Being deep underground masked the stench of the decaying bodies.”
Imagining the sheer scale of such a macabre operation, Pei Xiqing quickly covered her mouth, a wave of nausea washing over her.
“So… are we going to have to go through that tunnel to get out?”
“Mhm.”
Pei Xiqing’s stomach churned uncomfortably. After taking a moment to steady herself, she muttered, “I suppose it’s our only viable way out of here.”
“It is.”
“…Just give me a minute to mentally prepare myself.”
“There actually aren’t many bodies left down in the tunnels right now,” he assured her. “The apocalyptic floods washed most of them out. All the corpses we’ve seen scattered up here were regurgitated from below. Because the tunnel’s elevation is so low, the rushing water didn’t allow the bodies to settle there for long.”
Pei Xiqing spent the next ten minutes steeling her nerves before taking a deep, resolute breath. “Alright. Let’s head to the entrance.”
As she stood up to speak, she couldn’t help but glance back over her shoulder.
The space behind her was pitch black, completely swallowing her line of sight. Yet, within that oppressive, silent darkness, she could faintly hear the sickening sound of movement scraping against the rocks.
Realizing what was happening, she opened her mouth to speak, but before she could utter a word, Duan Xiaolin swept her up into his arms.
He easily hoisted her up, letting her lean securely against his broad shoulder as he began to move. Pei Xiqing patted his back urgently. “Are there parasites? Or zombies?”
“It’s the corpses,” he replied grimly.
“But aren’t they all already dead?!”
“They are infected with the mutant virus.”
“I knew there was something wrong when you wouldn’t let me investigate them earlier!” she hissed. “Next time, tell me these things sooner!” No wonder she had constantly felt a sinister, creeping presence at her back. The mangled corpses had been secretly writhing and tracking them this entire time.
Duan Xiaolin gave her backside a light smack. “Keep your voice down.”
Pei Xiqing immediately clamped her mouth shut.
The man carried her swiftly, navigating toward the far edge of the magnetic field.
Seeking purchase, Pei Xiqing clung to him tightly, burying her face in the crook of his neck. As the terrain shifted, her soft lips accidentally brushed against his earlobe.
Duan Xiaolin subtly turned his head to avoid the distracting contact.
However, there was no escaping the sweet, familiar fragrance wafting from her skin. She was wearing far too little in the sweltering heat of the anomaly. From his vantage point, the loose collar of her thin camisole offered a tempting glimpse of the soft, snow-white curves beneath.
He shot her a dark, warning look.
“We are currently running for our lives. Stop seducing me.”
