What?! I Became the Zombie Beauty in the Villain’s Arms – CH97

Something to Say

Chapter 97: Something to Say

She locked the doors and windows, took a quick shower, and climbed into bed.

At first, sleep eluded her. Her mind buzzed with worry over the chaos unfolding outside. But then she reasoned with herself: What do the dirty deeds of humanity have to do with me? Comforted by that thought, she closed her eyes and, after a while, actually drifted off to sleep.

At the exact same time, the interior of the central command building was brightly lit.

Ling Lang was leading his men on a raid. Seeing their target cornered and about to turn his gun on himself, Ling Lang thrust his palm forward, shooting a violent blast of supernatural energy directly at the man.

The searing heat forced the gangster to drop his weapon instantly. In the next second, Ling Lang closed the distance, delivering a brutal kick that sent the man sprawling.

Planting a heavy boot firmly on the man’s chest, Ling Lang stripped him of his remaining bullets and weapons. Then, reaching into the man’s coat, he pulled out a plastic bag containing still-warm human organs. Disgust and absolute fury flared in Ling Lang’s eyes. He kicked the man hard in the ribs. “Committing crimes right under our noses while the base is on high alert. Should I call you arrogant, or just completely suicidal?”

The gangster gasped, the wind knocked out of him, utterly unable to speak. Within seconds, Ling Lang’s subordinates pinned him to the concrete, twisted his arms behind his back, and slapped heavy cuffs on his wrists.

“Drag him to the water dungeon,” Ling Lang ordered. Grabbing the confiscated evidence, he stormed off toward the subterranean prison, radiating lethal anger.

On the way, he ran into Xia Jingyu, who was leading her own squad on a separate investigation.

The two captains halted.

“What’s going on?” Xia Jingyu asked, eyeing his furious expression.

“What’s going on with you?” Ling Lang shot back. “Shouldn’t your unit have departed the base long ago?”

“There was a change of plans. Something came up, and I need to investigate it before I head back to headquarters.”

“Do whatever you want,” Ling Lang scoffed, too angry to waste another breath on her.

Xia Jingyu fell into step behind him. “Heading to the water dungeon?”

“Yeah.”

“I’m coming with you to take a look,” she said. “There’s a puzzle I haven’t quite figured out yet. Did your people capture any intelligence spies a few days ago? I just want to ask around and gather some information.”

Ling Lang completely ignored her, continuing his rapid march with his men.

The interior and exterior of the dungeon were painted red with fresh blood. The execution ground outside the gates was littered with corpses, almost all of them outsiders clad in black masks. It wasn’t hard to deduce that a violent prison break attempt had taken place here not long ago.

After entering the water dungeon, Xia Jingyu descended straight to the third underground level.

Patrolling through the damp, dimly lit cells, she finally located the informant she was looking for. However, an intense interrogation was currently taking place in the adjacent cell. Unable to interrupt or bring her men inside, she had no choice but to stand aside in the corridor and wait.

Inside the cell, Qiu Chao was wearing sterile blue medical gloves. The exact second he injected a specialized serum into the prisoner’s neck, the man’s entire body seized. He violently convulsed, twisting and thrashing in excruciating agony. It looked as if a wild beast were trapped beneath his flesh, trying to claw its way out, causing horrific, bloody cracks to split his skin.

Qiu Chao didn’t even blink. In exactly five seconds, the unimaginable torture had forced the man’s mouth open.

Qiu Chao stood up, methodically peeling off his bloody gloves. He turned to report the extracted intelligence to the man sitting in the shadows behind him. “He gave up a location.”

Duan Xiaolin’s eyes were cold and indifferent. He sat casually on a blood-stained metal chair, slowly flipping through a thick stack of dossiers. Hearing the report, he issued a flat command: “Investigate it.”

He then marked a few key points on the document with his pen. “The missing links are right here. We need to comb through this data carefully. Cross-reference their planned escape routes with the secret communication networks connecting these syndicates.”

A subordinate standing behind him immediately took the file. “Understood.”

Just then, Ling Lang stormed into the cell with his men and slammed the plastic bag onto the metal interrogation table.

The bag wasn’t completely sealed. Thick, dark blood seeped through the gap, dripping steadily onto the concrete floor.

Drip. Drip.

The metallic stench of fresh blood in the room was overwhelming.

Qiu Chao sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “I literally just finished interrogating a dozen targets. Why are you dragging another one into my lab, Ling Lang?”

“You should ask them why they refuse to act like actual human beings,” Ling Lang sneered.

Qiu Chao gestured for the guards to haul the newly captured gangster off the floor and chain him to the iron cross. As he methodically prepared another syringe of his specialized serum, he complained with casual indifference, “I only came to this base for a brief visit. I never calculated that your unit would draft me into doing all your heavy lifting. Shouldn’t headquarters be treating me to a luxury dinner right now?”

“Nobody forced you to join Franlun,” Ling Lang shrugged unapologetically.

This time, Qiu Chao didn’t even have to administer the injection. Having just witnessed the horrifying, writhing agony of the previous prisoners, the new captive broke instantly, spilling everything he knew.

Qiu Chao clapped his hands together, a burst of supernatural fire instantly incinerating his contaminated gloves into ash. “Alright, shift’s over. Time to go home, eat, and grab a drink. The rest is up to your squads.”

He was genuinely exhausted. He had been working non-stop all night, breaking no fewer than ten high-tier operatives. Every single one had confessed. His interrogation methods were brutally direct; he never wasted time beating around the bush. If a target refused to speak, they were simply subjected to hellish physical torment until they did.

As he turned to leave, he unexpectedly spotted Xia Jingyu standing just outside the cell door.

He subtly adjusted his white mask, the expression underneath turning somewhat complicated.

Xia Jingyu stepped into the room, waving a hand in front of her face to fan away the suffocating stench of blood. “My father ordered me down here to interrogate a few specific prisoners. I didn’t expect to catch you actively running missions.”

She crossed her arms, her tone laced with mild sarcasm. “You really are a hard worker. Pulling overtime shifts this late into the night.”

Qiu Chao laughed dryly. “We aren’t as blessed as General Xia, who happens to have a supreme marshal for a father. We’re just a pack of working dogs.”

“You really know how to flatter yourself,” Xia Jingyu retorted.

Qiu Chao simply shrugged; he had never cared about such trivial insults.

He looked over at Ling Lang. “Are we clear here? I assume your unit can handle the cleanup?”

Ling Lang nodded. “Yeah, I’ll process the rest of the paperwork. You can head out, brother.”

However, the man sitting quietly in the dark corner of the cell showed absolutely no intention of leaving.

Qiu Chao raised a brow. He pulled a metal chair over, sat down, and asked Duan Xiaolin for a cigarette. Just as he sparked a flame to light it, he noticed Duan Xiaolin pulling the silver-rimmed glasses from the bridge of his nose.

“Is there something else on the agenda?” Qiu Chao asked, flicking the ash off his unlit cigarette.

Only then did he realize there was something visibly wrong with Duan Xiaolin’s glasses. He snorted a laugh. “Did you drop your glasses? Why is the lens completely loose?”

“I had a fall,” Duan Xiaolin replied smoothly.

He casually snapped the loose lens back into the frame as best he could, then slid the glasses back onto his face. Without another word, he slowly reached for a heavy tactical pistol resting on the interrogation table. He grabbed a fresh magazine, slid it into the grip, and silently racked the slide, chambering a round.

“A fall. Right. It’s a miracle they didn’t shatter,” Qiu Chao muttered sarcastically. He leaned back in his chair, surprisingly comfortable amidst the sickening smell of blood saturating the cell, but his sharp eyes remained locked on Duan Xiaolin’s deliberate movements.

“Brother Duan, do you have some unfinished business?”

Ling Lang noticed the shift in atmosphere as well. Acting on pure instinct, he stepped backward and firmly pulled the heavy iron cell door shut, effectively locking everyone inside the room.

It was clear his brother had something to say.

Duan Xiaolin’s posture remained perfectly relaxed, but his long, powerful fingers gripped the heavy pistol with lethal precision. In one smooth, unhurried motion, he raised the barrel and aimed it directly at the only other woman in the cell.

The daughter of the supreme marshal, Xia Jingyu.
