Chapter 82: Tacit Understanding
Saying that, Yu Zhengqing began searching for his two sons in the darkness.
In no time, the two brothers were awakened, and Zhang Yuan also roused his family members. After issuing a series of warnings, Yu Zhengqing decided to leave his two sons behind to protect those in the cave while he, Zhang Yuan, and Yu Haojie attacked the bandits at the cave entrance.
This strategy was exactly what Yu Luo had in mind — with fewer people, they would be less of a target for the bandits.
After making preparations, the Armor-Claw Beast silently returned to Yu Luo’s side. Taking advantage of the darkness, Yu Luo bent down, picked it up, and stored it back in the system space.
[Ding! Host, preparations are complete. Zhang Yuan, Yu Zhengqing, and your father are at the cave entrance, ready to attack.]
Hearing the system’s message, Yu Luo whispered to Ye Jiamei, telling her to get ready.
“Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!”
Five short arrows flew out, hitting the throats of the bandits who were drinking. As for the one Yu Haojie targeted, the arrow struck his chest!
Seeing that the bandit was about to call for help, Yu Zhengqing quickly aimed at the man’s throat and pulled the trigger again!
The bandit, clutching the arrow in his chest, opened his mouth to shout, but a sharp arrow pierced his throat, silencing him instantly as he collapsed to the ground!
The sound of five bodies hitting the ground startled the other bandits sleeping nearby. In an instant, they grabbed their blades and looked around warily!
Before they could pinpoint the attackers, Yu Zhengqing and the others fired another volley of arrows, targeting the bandits who were just sitting up!
“Help, help!”
There were nearly three hundred bandits — no matter how fast they fired, it was impossible to take them all down in seconds.
Realizing things were amiss, one bandit shouted for reinforcements from outside the cave.
But Yu Zhengqing and Zhang Yuan, who had already scouted the terrain, immediately understood where the remaining bandits were based on the direction of the shout.
Using their lightness skills, they swiftly moved towards the entrance from where the call came!
As they approached, they heard the sound of weapons being unsheathed and footsteps drawing nearer.
The two immediately took positions on either side of the passage and fired at the bandits trying to rush in!
Inside the cave, the nearly three hundred bandits had only swords and long blades. Fortunately, none of them were archers.
The stone platforms they slept on were just long slabs, with rows of bandits lying on them.
If they wanted to counterattack, they would have to reach the entrance guarded by Yu Luo and her family. But with the flat ground around them, they couldn’t find cover, making them easy targets.
Even a few bandits who tried to use lightness skills to dodge the arrows were shot down before they could get close, falling dead halfway.
Meanwhile, Yu Zhengqing and Zhang Yuan blocked the five hundred bandits outside the cave entrance. In less than the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, Yu Luo’s family had wiped out the three hundred bandits inside.
Seeing the bodies strewn across the cave floor, the family barely had time to catch their breath. From the moment they first used the crossbows against bandits in the small forest, they had understood the harsh survival rules of this world.
The only way to survive was to become stronger.
“Auntie, we’ve cleared the bandits outside, but it might not be safe yet. Stay at the entrance, and if any bandits show up, just pull that trigger!”
Hearing this, Wang Ying and Yu Qiao’er hurried to take over the position, replacing Yu Luo and Ye Jiamei at the entrance.
Seeing the mother and daughter step out, Yu Haojie quickly followed.
“Here are two broadswords for you brothers to defend yourselves.”
On the way to Yu Zhengqing’s cave, Yu Luo pulled out two broadswords she had stored in the system space and handed them to Yu Shaoran and his brother.
Now was not the time to dwell on grievances — they had to work together to survive.
Taking the broadswords, Yu Shaoran’s gaze was complicated as he looked at Yu Luo. Words of gratitude seemed to rise in his throat, but before he could speak, Yu Luo’s family had already moved on.
As they rushed towards Yu Zhengqing, they kept an eye out for any remaining enemies or hidden caves.
Yu Zhengqing and Zhang Yuan had already moved five or six meters forward from their original position, fighting to keep the bandits at bay. When Yu Luo’s family reached them, they realized they were in a passage carved out of the stone wall.
The passage was long but fortunately had no forks, leading directly to another cave outside where bonfires were lit.
The passage was already littered with bodies of bandits taken down by Yu Zhengqing and Zhang Yuan. Ignoring the horror of it all, Yu Luo quickly stored the weapons beside the corpses into her system space.
Outside, the remaining bandits realized they couldn’t break through by force and began shooting arrows into the passage!
Seeing Yu Zhengqing and Zhang Yuan struggle to advance, Yu Haojie grabbed a bandit’s corpse off the ground, using it as a shield, and charged ahead!
This risky move made Yu Luo and Ye Jiamei break into a cold sweat, but Yu Haojie’s immense strength left Yu Zhengqing and Zhang Yuan momentarily stunned.
Fortunately, the two quickly recovered, using the cover provided by Yu Haojie to launch another round of attacks.
The three coordinated seamlessly, focusing first on the archers among the bandits.
