Chapter 256: Master’s Cooking is Truly Amazing!
“Today, I’ve called you here to let you taste the fruits of our fields.”
Zhang Hu, Storm, and the others had already seen these crops in the fields. Since they were Yu Luo’s trusted subordinates, they would occasionally take time to check on the farmland.
“Are they ripe? When I last checked two days ago, the whole patch was still green!”
Looking at the bright red tomatoes, Zhang Xiaoliang picked one up with delight. He was curious about its taste but, without Yu Luo’s permission, he could only hold it and examine it.
“Only a few have ripened, but the rest are not far behind. Harvesting them now and taking them to market is the perfect timing. Once fully ripe, they won’t last long before spoiling. Try these tomatoes and see how they taste. Not only can they be eaten as fruit, but they can also be used in cooking. Today, my father is personally preparing the dishes, so you’ll get to taste how they turn out.”
“What? How can we let Master cook? I’ll go help him!”
Saying this, Tao Ming stood up, eager to rush to the kitchen, completely forgetting about the tomatoes on the table.
“Sit down!”
Just as Tao Ming got up, Yu Luo’s voice made him sit back down in shock.
“If you could cook, why would I have my father do it? I called you here to taste these crops from overseas. This continent doesn’t have such fruits.”
“Alright then, we’ll taste them first. These tomatoes are bright red, big, and juicy. They must be delicious.”
Saying this, Storm took a bite. The sweet and tangy juice burst out instantly, filling his mouth and spilling everywhere. His originally composed expression suddenly changed, his eyes widening, a mix of indescribable emotions flashing across his rugged face, making Zhang Hu frown slightly.
“What’s wrong, Storm? Is it bad?”
Seeing Storm’s frozen posture and stiff expression, Zhang Hu was skeptical. He picked up a tomato and took a small bite. The moment he did, his eyes lit up, and he took one bite after another, unable to stop.
Perhaps it was because he hadn’t eaten fruit in years in this barren land, or maybe the taste of the tomato suited him perfectly, but at this moment, Zhang Hu felt as if he was eating a divine fruit—the best thing he had ever tasted in his life.
Seeing Zhang Hu’s reaction, Tao Ming and Zhao Xiaoliang couldn’t sit still anymore. They quickly grabbed the tomatoes from the basket and started devouring them, completely abandoning their initial restraint.
“These tomatoes are so juicy! The taste is unique—delicious! I never expected our fields to grow such fruit! This is the best thing I’ve eaten since coming to this wilderness!”
Storm finished his tomato in a few bites. Though the skin was slightly tart, the juicy and flavorful flesh left him savoring the taste.
After visiting Feng City and the two small towns along the exile route, Yu Luo had realized that food in this era was very limited. Cooking methods were nowhere near as varied as in her past life, and many edible ingredients remained undiscovered.
She didn’t intend to make a fortune from tomatoes and watermelons, but she wanted to use these rare crops to spread the reputation of their city.
After her subordinates finished sampling the tomatoes, Yu Xiangxiang and Ming Ye each came out carrying a tray.
“Is that the sweet melon—no, the watermelon?”
Zhang Hu’s eyes widened as he saw the sliced watermelon, along with a tray of tomato egg drop soup, golden lion fish, tomato scrambled eggs, and sweet and sour pork ribs.
He had never seen such exquisite dishes in his life. The tangy-sweet taste of the tomato still lingered in his mouth, and he couldn’t believe that such an ordinary fruit could be transformed into these delicacies.
“Father, thank you for your hard work. Your cooking skills seem as good as ever.”
Yu Luo stood up as Yu Haojie entered, wearing an apron. The subordinates at the table quickly followed suit, bowing respectfully.
“It’s been a long time since I last cooked. That golden lion fish took quite some effort. Sit down and taste these tomato dishes.”
“Ming Ye, you sit down too. These dishes are all delicious—you’re in for a treat today.”
Yu Luo then turned to Yu Xiangxiang. “Go call my mother and uncle. You should join us too.”
Yu Xiangxiang nodded and was about to leave when Tao Ming quickly pulled her back. “I’m faster. Xiangxiang, you sit here—I’ll go.”
Having her sleeve tugged, Yu Xiangxiang felt a bit uncomfortable. Her earlobes reddened slightly as she nodded, while Tao Ming had already dashed off.
Ming Ye, on the other hand, sat quietly beside Yu Luo, as obedient as ever.
Having spent several months in this barren land, he was now well-fed and living a good life. His face had filled out, and he had grown taller—almost catching up to Yu Luo.
He remained the quietest in the household, always helping Ye Jiamei with chores or assisting Yu Haojie. Even Ye Jiamei had jokingly mentioned adopting him as her son.
When Ye Jiamei and the silent man arrived, the large table was completely surrounded. The subordinates knew this wasn’t proper etiquette, but they understood that Yu Luo had invited them to sample the dishes to help promote their crops.
Aside from Yu Luo’s family, most of them had never tasted tomato-based dishes before.
Within moments, all the dishes were completely devoured. Yu Luo, seeing the normally reserved Ming Ye with an empty bowl, filled it with fish, tomato scrambled eggs, and sweet and sour pork ribs, stacking his plate high.
Ming Ye glanced at Yu Luo from the corner of his eye, his lips curling into a faint smile.
“I invited you to taste, not to fight over food. Did you even savor the flavors?”
Watching the group of rugged men wolfing down their meal, Yu Luo sighed, setting down her chopsticks. She deliberately lowered her voice, feigning seriousness as she looked at her subordinates.
Hearing her words, they immediately put down their chopsticks, glancing at each other.
“Well, well… it was just too delicious! I’ve never eaten anything this good before. Master’s cooking is truly amazing!”
