Chapter 219: Almost Impotent
With the system’s help in cheating, Yu Luo spent about half an hour in the casino, winning just over three thousand taels before cheerfully stuffing her purse and swaggering out.
Such a small sum was hardly worth anyone’s attention.
Inside, most bets ranged from tens to hundreds of taels per round, with some casually wagering thousands. The real high-stakes games were in the VIP rooms, where true thrill-seekers played.
After winning a little and killing enough time, she knew when to stop.
Back at the inn, she knocked on the door.
When Zhang Hu and Tao Ming saw Yu Luo return in yet another disguise, their eyes widened in shock.
This kind of big transformation could only mean one thing—their Young Master had gone out to do something major again.
“Young Master, you—”
Tao Ming couldn’t hold back his curiosity, but Yu Luo immediately gestured for silence.
“Zhang Hu, go pick up the man I bought at the auction last night. Take him straight out of the city. Here, I have some medicine—if the people of Feng City haven’t drugged him, give him one of these.”
She opened her palm, revealing five white pills.
Zhang Hu’s eyes filled with curiosity, but he carefully accepted them without questioning further.
“We don’t have a carriage. Can you carry him with lightness skill?”
“I can, Young Master.”
Hearing this, Yu Luo nodded in relief, then turned to Tao Ming.
“You’ll leave the city now. Go outside the gates and find ten filthy-looking men, preferably beggars. Try to be discreet. Here are their contracts. The names should match one of them. If all goes well, they should be sticking together outside the city.”
“Young Master, you bought more people?!”
“Of course, idiot! Did you forget why we came to Feng City?!”
Yu Luo rolled her eyes. She felt that next time, it might be safer to just bring Zhang Hu—Tao Ming still lacked the necessary calmness and composure, something only time and countless beatings could fix.
“Young Master, I’ll leave now.”
Zhang Hu picked up the auction token and prepared to head out.
Yu Luo gave him a serious look.
“Once you have him, leave immediately. Use lightness skill to travel as fast as possible. Rest if needed, but avoid drawing attention. If you sense someone tailing you, take a detour before heading back.”
Yu Luo wasn’t sure if the people of Feng City would make a move on them. They had tried to stay low-profile, but in a place like this, caution was everything.
If Feng City suspected that another city was rising, they might try to crush them before they even got started.
“Understood, Young Master. However, if I leave now, I won’t be able to travel with you. Please be careful on the road.”
Yu Luo nodded, giving Zhang Hu a reassuring glance.
After Zhang Hu left, Yu Luo retrieved a clean set of clothing from her belongings and handed it to Tao Ming.
“Change into this, then wear this face covering before leaving.”
“I’ve checked—there are no spies watching the back window.”
Tao Ming nodded but still looked worried.
“Young Master, should I take them straight home once I find them?”
“Yes. I don’t know if Feng City will keep an eye on us, but you know what that city means to me. Our goal is to grow in secret until we have real power. We must not let Feng City notice us. Do you understand?”
Tao Ming might lack composure, but he was smart.
Hearing Yu Luo’s words, he immediately understood her concerns.
He nodded solemnly.
“If that’s the case, then I’ll take them back first. But, Young Master, you’ll be alone… I don’t feel comfortable leaving you here. Why don’t you stay one more night in Feng City? I’ll come back for you once I’ve delivered them home.”
“No need. I can take care of myself. If I can’t win, I can still run. Take Ming Ye with you—you both have lightness skill. Make sure to protect him.”
The moment Yu Luo suggested this, Ming Ye’s eyes flickered with concern.
“I want to stay with sister.”
Yu Luo: …
Hearing such a long sentence from Ming Ye was a rare occurrence!
Facing his beautiful face, she momentarily faltered, her voice softening unconsciously.
“Be good. My lightness skill isn’t as good as Tao Ming’s. If we get attacked, you’re safer with him. Also—” she picked up a face covering, “—your face is too good-looking. Wear this when you go out.”
She personally tied it around his face, making sure it was secure.
“You guys don’t need to worry. I’ll leave soon too. If all goes well, I might even catch up to you.”
With Yu Luo’s firm decision, they had no choice but to obey.
They exited through the back window, landed in the alleyway, and swiftly headed for the city gates.
Yu Luo waited a while, then changed back into her tattered old clothes before checking out of the inn and heading toward the city gates.
She almost made it out smoothly—until a figure dressed in moon-white robes suddenly blocked her path.
Looking up, she immediately recognized the man who had annoyed her at the auction.
He stood calmly, his tall frame completely obstructing her way as he gazed down at her intently.
Yu Luo tried to sidestep, pretending not to recognize him, but Ye Lu seemed to have anticipated her move, shifting to block her again.
“Move!”
She didn’t bother with politeness, snarling in irritation.
Everything had gone so smoothly today—why did she have to run into him now?!
Little did she know that Ye Lu had been waiting at the city gates all day just for her.
“Hah. You dared to drug me?”
His low, gritted voice sent shivers down her spine.
Just his tone alone told Yu Luo exactly what he had gone through last night.
But why should she admit to it?
She lifted her head, tilting it slightly, eyes full of feigned innocence as she gazed at him.
“Sir, I don’t understand what you’re talking about. Perhaps there’s been a misunderstanding?”
