Chapter 91: Treating Illness — Talisman Water
Qin Mochen tilted his head slightly, curling his hand up to cover his nose and lips—just enough to hide the corner of his mouth that he truly couldn’t stop from lifting. The curve was bigger than it had ever been, so big that if Wu Zongbai saw it, he’d be shocked for a long while.
The man tried his best to hold back his laughter. The smile at his mouth was forced into place, yet the amusement still crept uncontrollably into his brows.
Raising his hand, he easily covered the little girl’s head and ruffled it back and forth. “About tonight… I wasn’t actually angry. I was just worried about you. It’s dangerous for a girl to go out alone so late. You’re my bodyguard—don’t let it be that nothing happens to me, but something happens to you instead.”
Su Keke looked at him with those bright, dark eyes. “I understand, Uncle. I won’t do things that make you worry again.”
Qin Mochen gave a low “Mm.” “It’s late. Hurry up and wash up and sleep. Don’t mess up your original body clock just because you’re off tomorrow.”
Su Keke nodded obediently. “I’ll listen to Uncle.”
“Oh right, Uncle, look—this is the feng shui book Qian Yunze recommended to me. The author writes so well. There’s a lot I can’t understand.”
Qin Mochen found it amusing. “You can’t understand it, so that means it’s written well?”
Su Keke nodded hard. “When I was little, I had tons of questions. For a while, Master even got tired of being asked by me. So even now, there are still things I don’t understand. Who would’ve thought—this book actually brings up all the questions I’ve had in my heart! Whether what he says is right or not, just using his viewpoint to explain them makes so many things suddenly make sense.”
Qin Mochen took it and quickly flipped through a few pages. “Explaining feng shui from a scientific angle—this book is actually easier to understand than most. How can you not get it?”
“It’s like brainwaves and stuff…”
“When you finish all your middle-school and high-school textbooks, you’ll understand everything.”
“Really? Then for this book, I have to hurry up and finish all the junior and senior high textbooks!”
Su Keke was bursting with motivation. Hugging the book, she patter-pattered upstairs.
She was going to tuck it under her pillow and take a look every day—so she’d have even more drive to study.
After she left, Qin Mochen looked up for a while. Only after he was sure she wouldn’t come back downstairs did he casually toss the small box on the table into the wardrobe drawer where he kept his ties…
The next day, Su Keke watched Qin Mochen leave, then she also went out with her little backpack.
The three of them took the car Qin Xing had arranged and went straight to Song Yuan’s home.
Song Yuan’s family was fairly well-off. They lived in a small two-story villa. The students who attended Yuehua’s elite school rarely came from poor backgrounds anyway.
When the three arrived, the adults weren’t home. A nanny was there specifically to look after Song Yuan.
Su Keke studied the thin, gaunt boy and frowned slightly, thinking: As expected—filthy qi has entered the body, especially in the brain. There’s an extreme buildup.
Song Yuan was a little surprised. “Qin Xing, Luo Man, why are you here?”
“I’m the class life committee member. Even if this position is basically the same as not having one, you still can’t forget Miss Me’s official duties, right?”
Qin Xing smiled and asked, “I’m here on behalf of the teacher and the whole class to visit Student Song Yuan. How have you been lately? When are you coming back to school?”
Song Yuan shrugged. “The hospital said I’m weak and told me to rest more and use my brain less. With that, how could my mom possibly agree to let me go back to school?”
He was bored to death staying at home all day. His mom wouldn’t let him do anything, and she even hired a nanny to keep an eye on him.
“Oh right—who’s this little sister?” he asked. “Luo Man is the quiet, top-student beauty type, Qin Xing is the fiery boss-lady type, and this little sister is super cute. She doesn’t look like either of you—so she definitely isn’t your real sister.”
“Heh, I say, Song Yuan—how long has it been since we last saw you? And you’ve already become this lively and cheerful? You can even joke about me and Manman now?”
Luo Man smiled too.
Qin Xing pulled Su Keke in front of her. “This isn’t some little sister. This is our new classmate—Su Keke.”
Su Keke nodded at him. “Hello, classmate Song.”
Song Yuan returned the greeting. “Hello, hello. I thought you were someone’s little sister. You really look tiny—like a middle schooler.”
Su Keke corrected him seriously. “I’m eighteen. I should be half a year or a year older than you.”
“Hah? Can’t tell at all.”
After a few pleasantries, the smile on Song Yuan’s face faded. “I didn’t expect you’d come to see me. To be honest, I regret it now. When I could still move around, I should’ve played more and messed around more. Now that I’m like this, even if I want to mess around, I can’t.”
Su Keke suddenly asked him, “Do you have money?”
The moment she said that, Song Yuan froze. Qin Xing and Luo Man also looked at her.
Su Keke smiled awkwardly. “I can cure him, but if there’s no money, I won’t cure him.”
Song Yuan looked skeptical. “You can cure me? What illness do I even have? I’m not sick—I’m just weak.”
“You really aren’t sick. You just have filthy qi invading your body. And this filthy qi isn’t ordinary—it’s filthy qi drawn in by a witch curse.”
Song Yuan looked at Su Keke as if she were an idiot.
“Don’t doubt it—Keke is a real master,” Qin Xing immediately said, and then she described the witch-curse incident vividly, with all the details, making it sound completely convincing.
“So you’re saying… the reason I’ve become like this is because of that witch curse?” Song Yuan was shocked.
The three of them nodded in unison.
Luo Man suddenly spoke up: “Song Yuan, didn’t you just say you regretted it? Now Keke can give you back a healthy body—don’t you want to try?”
Song Yuan stared in surprise. “Luo Man, top student—how can even you…”
After a long while, Song Yuan finally asked Su Keke, “How are you going to… cure me?”
Su Keke said, “First tell me if you have money. I’m not doing this for free.”
Song Yuan’s mouth twitched. “Is two hundred thousand enough? That’s all the savings I’ve got. If you can make me as healthy as I used to be, forget two hundred thousand—even one million, I’ll scrape it together for you.”
The moment Su Keke heard “two hundred thousand,” her eyes curved into little crescent moons from smiling. “Enough, enough.”
They watched as she went to the kitchen to get a bowl, then pulled a talisman out of her bag. “This talisman can dissolve filthy qi.”
Su Keke struck a match and burned the talisman, catching the ashes in the bowl. Then she poured boiling water straight in.
She swirled the bowl, mixing the talisman ashes into the hot water, and handed it to Song Yuan. “Here—drink it.”
Song Yuan looked utterly incredulous. “Y-You… you’re actually making me drink talisman water?”
My god—talisman water!
Wasn’t this the kind of trick those backward, remote countryside witch women used to scam money?
What era is this already, and he’s actually seeing a little witch with his own eyes?
Forget Song Yuan—even Qin Xing and Luo Man were wearing blank, stunned expressions.
Because of the witch-curse incident, they had already believed Su Keke completely. Who would’ve thought…
Seeing all three of them looking strange, Su Keke quickly went, “Ah—sorry! I forgot this isn’t Peach Blossom Village. The conditions aren’t that bad. Classmate Song Yuan, your home should have a strainer, right? I’ll go filter it for you first, then you can drink.”
Song Yuan: …
Are you freaking kidding me right now?
