Chapter 72: Dumbfounded—Splashed with Wine
Qin Junchi rattled on nonstop, leaving Su Keke no chance to get a word in. And he even had the nerve to say, “Master, why aren’t you saying anything?”
“Master, don’t tell me you don’t remember me? We met at the Guose Tianxiang Club before—it was me who brought you in.
“I never expected you to really be a master. You said I’d have a bloody disaster, and that very night something actually happened to me. Master, the protective talisman you gave me was incredibly effective—I’m convinced it saved my life. If it weren’t for the fact that the elders in my family don’t believe in this stuff, I definitely would’ve mentioned you. You’re my great benefactor—my parents’ great benefactor too. After all, I’m their only son…”
Qin Junchi babbled on and on, until he suddenly seemed to realize something.
He abruptly looked at Wu Zongbai, his face full of disbelief. “Wait—why are you with Assistant Wu? Oh my god, don’t tell me you really got together with my Fourth Uncle—”
Wu Zongbai cut him off expressionlessly. “Young Master, you’re overthinking it. Miss Su is currently Fourth Master’s bodyguard.”
“Bodyguard my ass! With my Fourth Uncle’s personality, would he ever let a tender little girl be his bodyguard? You think I’m stupid?”
Although the girl was dressed in a black suit and looked sharp and capable—quite convincing at first glance—who was his Fourth Uncle? He could take down a whole group of people by himself. Most of the tall, burly bodyguards he kept around were basically useless most of the time. So why would he hire a skinny little girl with thin arms and legs as a bodyguard?
Could it be that she was ‘guarding’ him right into bed?
Oh my god! Qin Junchi clutched his head. After the shock came guilt.
He might fool around himself, but he didn’t want to drag his Fourth Uncle down with him.
If Old Master found out, he’d definitely break his legs and make sure he could never go out and mess around again. And there was also Yuexiang-jie—he wouldn’t be able to explain himself to her.
Wu Zongbai maintained his polite smile. “Young Master, you really are thinking too much.”
It wasn’t entirely Qin Junchi’s fault. Su Keke’s makeup now carried a hint of mature feminine charm, and Qin Junchi was a seasoned playboy. In his mind, that extra bit of allure on a woman usually meant she’d already experienced worldly affairs.
Su Keke didn’t quite understand the cryptic exchange between the two men, but she followed Wu Zongbai’s lead and said, “I really am your Fourth Uncle’s bodyguard right now. For one month.”
“Alright, I’ll believe the Master. If the Master says so, then so be it.”
He said he believed her, but deep down, he didn’t.
Whatever. The legs were on his Fourth Uncle’s body. Even if he had brought the girl over himself, it would still be his Fourth Uncle who couldn’t keep that extra leg in check.
To be honest, after the shock, horror, and guilt, Qin Junchi even felt a little pleased. Getting his Fourth Uncle out of the ranks of old virgins—that counted as a good deed. It was just a bit unfair to Yuexiang-jie.
But come on—what man doesn’t have some romantic history before marriage?
Grandpa, Grandpa, you can finally rest easy now. My Fourth Uncle isn’t sick—he’s perfectly fine!
Qin Junchi beamed at Master Su Keke. “There are too many people and too many eyes here. Come, Master—let’s find somewhere quiet and really catch up.”
With that, he grabbed Su Keke’s arm and pulled her toward the exit.
“I can’t go! I have to stay here and protect your Fourth Uncle.” Su Keke planted herself firmly in place, her face taut. “Young Master Qin, the karmic connection between you and me has already ended. There’s nothing to catch up on.”
“Hey, how can our connection be over? If it weren’t for me, could you have become my Fourth Uncle’s ‘bodyguard’? But seriously, Master—why would a master like you work as my Fourth Uncle’s ‘bodyguard’? With your skills, you could make a fortune just telling fortunes. Or is it that you’re purely coveting my Fourth Uncle’s good looks?”
Su Keke: …
“Assistant Wu, I’m taking her with me for a bit,” Qin Junchi said. “Just tell my Fourth Uncle later.”
“Young Master, this… isn’t appropriate,” Wu Zongbai stepped forward to stop him.
“Oh come on, you’re no fun at all. I’m just chatting with my Fourth Uncle’s little ‘bodyguard’—it’s not like I’m going to eat her. If it weren’t for me, where would my Fourth Uncle have found such a fresh, delicate little ‘bodyguard’?”
Su Keke frowned. “I’m really not going. If you have something to say, say it here. If you keep pulling me, I won’t be polite.”
“Ha! With your skinny arms and legs, you really think you’re a bodyguard—ah!”
Su Keke suddenly made her move. Two fingers shot out and jabbed directly into an acupoint on Qin Junchi’s arm, making him cry out in pain.
She quickly stepped back. “I—I just don’t want to go. Don’t force me. Forcing me is bullying me, and if you bully me, I’m definitely going to fight back.”
Qin Junchi clutched his arm. That jab had hurt so much his handsome face had twisted.
He’d been a bit skeptical about her being a bodyguard before, but now he believed it.
Turns out she wasn’t the kind of ‘bodyguard’ he’d imagined—she was a real one.
Just as things were getting chaotic, Su Keke heard rapid click-clack footsteps.
Urgent and chaotic.
She looked toward the sound.
A woman in a goose-yellow gown was striding over aggressively, thin high heels clicking sharply against the floor. In just a moment, she had rushed up to them.
Her eyes were blazing—and aimed straight at Su Keke?
Although utterly baffled, Su Keke still quickly assumed a defensive stance, ready for a fight.
She was prepared. If needed, she’d use the move her master had taught her—she could subdue the other party instantly without making her look too bad. After all, this was a banquet; things couldn’t get out of hand.
Su Keke was ready for anything. But who would have thought—the woman didn’t charge in for a fight as expected. Instead—
She grabbed a nearby glass of red wine, swung her arm, and flung the entire glass straight at Su Keke’s face.
If what was flying at her had been yin energy, baleful qi, or anything else, Su Keke had dozens of ways to avoid it. But this was just wine.
In the brief moment of her stunned hesitation, the glass of red wine splashed forcefully onto her face—smack in the middle—drenching her completely.
The wine streamed down Su Keke’s face. Her eyebrows smeared, her makeup ran, powder mixed with wine streaking across her face in chaotic lines. The little beauty instantly turned into a little tabby cat.
Her hair at the temples didn’t escape either—soaked through, clumping into strands. The red wine gathered at the tips of two locks and dripped down steadily.
Drenched and disheveled, Su Keke blinked, shaking some of the droplets off her lashes.
In that moment, her mind went completely blank.
She didn’t know this woman. Why would she splash wine on her?
The woman who had just vented her anger still held the now-empty wineglass, her eyes even wider than Su Keke’s.
She seemed to regret her impulsive action, her gaze flickering—yet mixed with a trace of satisfaction after venting.
Everything happened in the blink of an eye. Qin Junchi was still clutching his arm and hissing in pain, while Wu Zongbai, out of courtesy, stood two steps away from Su Keke.
Both of them were completely stunned by the sudden turn of events.
