Chapter 15: Uncle, Your Hands Are So Big
Su Keke’s voice was soft and sweet. “Because the road up the mountain is hard to walk, I wanted to save Uncle some trouble.”
Qin Mochen held back the urge to curl his lips into a smile. “Didn’t you forget what Uncle said—that I was coming to visit your master?”
“Ah, about that… I’m sorry, Uncle. Last night when I texted you, Master was already asleep, so I didn’t get the chance to tell him you were coming. And when I woke up this morning, Master had already gone on a long trip.”
Su Keke wrinkled her little face.
But soon, she relaxed again and smiled brightly. “But I did tell Master about going to school, and he fully supports it. He even divined that a distinguished guest would arrive today. When I thought about it later, I realized that distinguished guest must be you, Uncle.”
“Then I’ll visit your master another time,” Qin Mochen said, casually lifting the big tablecloth-wrapped bundle hanging from Su Keke’s back.
Su Keke quickly pressed down on the strap over her shoulder. “No need, Uncle, it’s not heavy. I can carry it myself.”
Qin Mochen frowned. “And you call this not heavy? Girl, let go.”
“Oh.” Su Keke released her little paw, curved her lips, and said sweetly, “Thank you, Uncle.”
Qin Mochen untied the bundle strap and slung it over his own shoulder without asking anything further.
Assistant Wu, standing nearby, twitched at the corner of his mouth.
Was he really living in modern times? Why was he seeing something as ancient as a cloth bundle?
Was this little cutie so poor that she didn’t even have a backpack?
After Qin Mochen secured the bundle, before he could say anything, a small hand reached out and grabbed his large palm.
The man stiffened slightly. In the brief moment of distraction, that “sneak attack” of a little hand had already claimed its territory.
“Uncle, your hand is so big. I can’t even wrap my hand around it,” Su Keke said, looking at his hand.
After a short pause, Qin Mochen closed his fingers around the small hand that had burrowed in on its own.
With his large palm enclosing hers, only a tiny tip of Su Keke’s chubby little hand was left showing.
So… soft.
Qin Mochen didn’t dare use any strength, afraid that if he wasn’t careful, he might crush that little hand and have it burst into a handful of water.
“Uncle, hold my hand properly. The road here is pretty steep—I’ll help you down the mountain,” Su Keke instructed him seriously.
“Pfft!” Assistant Wu really couldn’t hold it in anymore and covered his mouth as he snickered.
Qin Mochen cast him a faint glance, and Assistant Wu immediately stopped laughing.
“Then I’ll have to trouble you,” Qin Mochen said to the little girl.
“You’re welcome. That’s only right, because Uncle is my employer. Since I’m taking your money, I have to do the job properly.”
Qin Mochen looked at her and asked, “Are you this attentive with all your employers?”
Su Keke immediately let out a mischievous giggle. “Of course not. You’re my first employer in the true sense. Yesterday’s one was handed over to me by my master, so it doesn’t count. Besides, in our line of work, we go by first impressions. I liked Uncle the moment I saw you.”
Hearing this, a faint curve lifted at the corner of Qin Mochen’s lips. Under the tea-colored lenses, his eyes flickered with starlike amusement—though that smile quickly sank back into their depths.
“Uncle, can you pay one day’s fee in advance? I didn’t bring any daily necessities, and I was planning to buy them after seeing what things are like at your place,” Su Keke said, tilting her head to look at him.
“Leave that to Assistant Wu.”
“Alright then.” Su Keke compromised, muttering, “I actually like buying my own things, but since I can’t leave Uncle, I’ll let it go.”
Qin Mochen was silent for a moment before replying, “On the weekend, I can go with you.”
Assistant Wu: …
Fourth Master, have you perhaps forgotten that this weekend you’re attending Old Master Xu’s seventieth birthday banquet?
