Chapter 84: The Plain and Unpretentious Young Lady
Chi Qian stepped back a few paces and focused her eyes.
It was a massive bouquet of fresh, dripping-red roses—so many that the kangaroo’s two little paws couldn’t even hold them properly.
Chi Qian blinked. “Where’d those come from?”
The kangaroo: Squee! Obviously from the roadside!
Up ahead there’d been a field full of roses. They just yanked and yanked—grabbed whole bunches at a time—and hey, didn’t even have to pay for them.
Each kangaroo had picked a huge armful, and when they put it all together, it became this enormous bouquet.
They made a point of stressing “no need to spend money.”
Chi Qian could only think: some poor soul must’ve planted those roses, and now every last one had been ruined by these pests.
The fact that they were still alive and hadn’t been beaten to death yet… was a kind of talent.
Then again, ordinary people couldn’t really win against them anyway.
*
Chi Qian reached out to take the bouquet—only to be suddenly grabbed by the kangaroo.
The staff and bystanders all thought the kangaroo was about to attack, their hearts leaping into their throats.
But no—the kangaroo simply lifted Chi Qian up, spun her around once, then hopped back onto the truck and shut the door.
Moments later, sounds of what could only be described as a group brawl came from inside.
Chi Qian: “…”
Rather get beaten up than give up this chance to score some points, huh? Bold move.
The animal transport truck soon drove away.
The crowd didn’t disperse, though—they clustered in a half-circle around Chi Qian, whispering excitedly.
“These days, even kangaroos have become spirits? They actually know how to give girls roses.”
“This girl’s authority over animals almost rivals my idol little Qian’s.”
“Kangaroos gave me flowers too—just… planted right on my face.”
“Wait, wait, wait… isn’t that really little Qian?!”
The name dropped like a splash of water into hot oil—instantly exploding the whole street.
“What?! It really is little Qian?!”
“Holy crap, it’s Qian Qian! I’m seeing her in real life!!”
The chaos threatened to spiral out of control.
Chi Qian raised a finger to her lips. “Shh. Keep it down. Truth is, I’m only down here undergoing a trial. If Heaven’s soldiers and generals discover I’m playing around in the mortal world, they’ll drag me straight back to Tongtian River.”
Chi Fengxiao, who was just about to grab her and run: “…”
What—are you trying to tell me that turtle who ferried Tang Sanzang across the river in Journey to the West… was actually you??
That’s such nonsense you couldn’t even sell it to a five-year-old.
The crazy part? These fans actually clapped hands over their mouths, nodding frantically in agreement and toning down their excitement.
Chi Fengxiao: “???”
Wait a sec, are fans nowadays really this easy to fool??
One whispered, “little Qian, you’re so cute—do you really have to descend just to face tribulations?”
Chi Qian: “I descended specifically to create tribulations.”
“I get it! Tomorrow’s Monday, and I don’t wanna go to work. Can you make it really bad—like, maybe destroy the world?”
“No.”
“Why not?!”
“My summer vacation isn’t over yet. I’m not in the mood for world-ending until school starts.”
…So the apocalypse is scheduled for after break, huh.
The fans wailed. What about our feelings?! Don’t they matter at all?!
Chi Qian calmly: “Not really. My fun comes first.”
Fans: QAQ
“Ahem.” Chi Fengxiao tugged her sleeve, warning her not to get carried away. More and more people were gathering.
Some fans noticed him in disguise but didn’t recognize who he was. “Little Qian, is this your friend?”
Before Chi Qian could reply, Chi Fengxiao straightened up, dropped his voice low and formal: “Miss, we should leave now. You have another appointment scheduled.”
Chi Qian: “……” Uncle, with acting skills like that, no wonder you’re still stuck doing background roles. Entertainment industry, I’m starting to question your standards.
The fans, though, had no idea this was film emperor Chi Fengxiao. They assumed he was just the “bag-carrier assistant” that every heiress needs at her side.
And with that voice? Definitely a handsome guy.
Clearly, they were about to head to some luxury restaurant or high-end boutique.
So enviable…!
After walking a while, Chi Qian asked her uncle, “So, what’s our next stop?”
“What else? The stinky tofu stall, of course. Didn’t you say you wanted to try it?” Chi Fengxiao pulled her into the crowd.
Chi Qian slurped back her drool. “Almost forgot—then let’s hurry, gogoGO!”
A true heiress—plain and unpretentious.
While they wandered the food street stuffing their faces, they also trended on hot search.

The whole nation now knew Chi Qian had gone out to snack and, along the way, helped the zoo recapture a gang of runaway kangaroos.
Those same kangaroos that had been drop-kicking pedestrians turned docile as kittens in front of her— and even brought her roses to win her favor.
Plenty of viewers who’d only seen her livestreams hadn’t believed it before, thinking her “animal whisperer” act was scripted.
But this time, she’d pulled it off in broad daylight with an audience.
And the zoo wouldn’t possibly let kangaroos out of the truck just to suit her persona.
So…
[So what is she exactly? Forest princess? Deep-sea witch? Somebody give me a definitive answer.]
[Maybe she’ll switch to a new persona in the next stream.]
[I was there. The kangaroos weren’t scared of her—they looked at her like she was their boss. They just folded, you know?]
[Forget kangaroos, sister Qian, arrest me! Take me home!]
[She’s just a kid! Get lost, creeps!!]
Before the speculation got out of hand, those hashtags were quietly buried.
Replaced by safer ones like #TrustInScience.
Chi Group’s PR department let out a collective sigh.
The chairman had made it clear—keep talk of the young miss and animals as low-key as possible. Don’t draw dangerous attention.
Innocent or not, a treasure invites thieves.
Meanwhile, blissfully unaware, Chi Qian and Chi Fengxiao were still running wild—two people whose combined maturity barely reached nine years old.
Eventually, too tired to walk, Fengxiao won a pair of roller skates at a ring-toss stall and strapped them onto Chi Qian.
While he went to buy milk tea, she rolled happily around the alley.
At the mouth of the alley, a figure appeared.
Jiang Heyi, carrying medicine from the hospital, happened to pass by. He turned his head—
and nearly dropped everything when he saw a girl in a white dress floating straight toward him.
No, really—floating.
The hem of her skirt just covered the roller skates, her legs perfectly still, sliding forward stiffly under the dim night light.
She looked, in every possible way, like a ghost.
Jiang Heyi nearly went into cardiac arrest.
Maybe because he’d been scared a few times before, he skillfully—though with trembling hands—pulled out a cinnabar talisman from his pocket.
Then he saw Chi Qian’s face.
“Why is it always you?!” Jiang Heyi broke down. “Didn’t you already leave?”
What was going on with the ghost world these days? Coming up and going down as they pleased??
Could they at least respect the humans who were afraid of ghosts??
Chi Qian braked with her hands in her pockets. Seeing him didn’t make her react much. “Good evening, have you had breakfast yet?”
Wait, what was this little brother’s name again?
Jiang Heyi: “……” Do you even hear yourself?!
His feet felt nailed to the ground, talisman in hand, not sure if he should slap it on her face.
If he didn’t, he was scared.
If he did, he felt a bit reluctant.
She looked scary, but at least she hadn’t harmed him.
“This time… why did you come up again?” Jiang Heyi asked stiffly. “Do you have some unfulfilled wish?”
“Unfulfilled wish…” Chi Qian touched her chin. “Actually, I’ve always wanted to know what surströmming tastes like, but I’ve never had the chance.”
