Chapter 70: A Counterattack with a Report
The tour guide pretended to be calm. “I don’t understand what you’re saying.”
Xu Youyou smiled and said, “Ten minutes ago, I already called the police. If you have anything to say, you can explain it to the officers.”
The police arrived quickly.
As soon as their car stopped, they saw two luxury cars waiting by the roadside.
One of the officers asked, “Who reported that tomb robbers dug up a bronze artifact worth two hundred million?”
Xu Youyou raised her hand.
The officer nodded and asked, “What exactly is the situation? Where’s the artifact? Where are the criminals? Tell me everything.”
Because the reported value of the artifact was too high, five police cars arrived, with some officers even carrying firearms.
Xu Youyou pointed at the tour guide, who was being restrained by her bodyguards. “This man should be the ringleader. My bodyguards have already secured him. Now, you just need to raid their criminal hideout.”
The tour guide still shouted his innocence. “I have no idea what she’s talking about! She’s just a tourist who wanted to visit our village. I simply took her there! There was never any bronze artifact—she’s crazy! I’ll sue her for unlawful detention!”
Xu Youyou couldn’t be bothered to explain. “Officer, we’ll find out once we check. There’s no need to listen to his excuses. Don’t worry, we’ve confiscated his phone, so he can’t warn anyone.”
Hearing this, the officer looked at Xu Youyou for a moment, then at the four muscular bodyguards around her. He decided to trust her.
Xu Youyou’s car led the way, taking the police straight to the village.
Concerned for her safety, she didn’t enter the village herself. Instead, she sent one of her eager bodyguards to guide the officers.
The tomb robbers were completely unprepared—about as oblivious as the geese wandering near the village entrance. When the police kicked open the door, they were still laughing and chatting inside.
In no time, the police easily arrested eight young men and escorted them out of the village.
Watching the scene, Xu Fang couldn’t help but ask, “Boss, you’re incredible. How did you figure out they were tomb robbers?”
Xu Youyou replied, “Do you remember? When we entered their house, they only opened the east room. The west room remained tightly shut, even during the day. And we heard noises coming from inside. That was unusual.”
Xu Fang had noticed that too but hadn’t thought much of it. “Isn’t it normal to keep a door closed during the day?”
Xu Youyou explained, “That house was newly built—at most a year old. In villages like this, most homes are two-story buildings. Why was theirs a single-story house?”
Xu Fang was confused. “Why?”
The other bodyguards also couldn’t figure it out.
Xu Youyou said, “Because the house wasn’t built for living—it was built to cover up their tomb-robbing activities. They constructed it directly over the tomb to avoid suspicion, so they could dig underground unnoticed.”
Everyone suddenly understood.
Xu Fang then hesitated before asking, “Boss, weren’t you tempted by such a valuable artifact? We thought you wanted to buy it and sell it for a higher price.”
Xu Youyou shook her head. “That artifact was clearly looted from a tomb. I wouldn’t touch it. Items like these, with unclear origins, can only be sold overseas. But why should our country’s treasures be sold to foreigners?”
The group nodded in agreement.
Officer Chen, who had been listening nearby, suddenly asked, “Miss Xu, you seem quite knowledgeable about tomb robbing?”
Xu Youyou immediately clarified, “I’ve only heard bits and pieces from others. I don’t know much about tomb raiding, but I do have some understanding of bronze artifacts. When they brought that item to me, claiming it was a family heirloom, I knew right away it had been dug up from the ground.”
Officer Chen then asked, “Is that bronze cauldron really worth two hundred million?”
Xu Youyou shook her head. “It’s hard to estimate, but I think one hundred million is a safe bet.”
Upon hearing this, the police officers were visibly pleased. Cracking down on tomb robbers and recovering such a valuable artifact would surely earn them commendations.
As the person who reported the case, Xu Youyou went to the police station to give a statement. By the time she finished, it was already afternoon.
“Xu Jie, call the travel agency and demand compensation,” Xu Youyou instructed.
Xu Fang was momentarily stunned.
“The travel agency assigned a criminal as our tour guide, putting our safety at risk. They should compensate us,” Xu Youyou said.
The travel agency had just received news from the police. The customer service representative on the phone was furious. “You got the tour guide arrested, and now you have the nerve to ask us for compensation?”
Xu Fang wasn’t easily intimidated. Seeing Xu Youyou and her team of bodyguards behind her, she felt emboldened.
“You call this customer service? A tomb robber became a tour guide at your agency. Who’s to say your whole company isn’t full of criminals? Maybe the police should investigate your entire operation!”
Bullies fear those who fight back. Seeing that they couldn’t intimidate her, the representative’s tone softened. “Alright, alright, we’ll refund your tour fees.”
Xu Fang was about to accept but then noticed Xu Youyou frowning slightly. She immediately changed her stance.
“Just a refund? That’s not enough to cover our losses! Your company put criminals near your customers, and you think this can be settled so easily?”
After a long silence, the representative finally said, “We’ll add an extra thousand yuan in compensation.”
Xu Fang scoffed. “A thousand yuan? That’s pocket change! We demand triple the tour cost in compensation!”
The travel agency refused, and the two sides argued back and forth. Eventually, they reached a settlement: a full refund plus double the original tour fee in compensation.
Xu Youyou clapped her hands. “Well done.”
Although Xu Fang was over ten years older than Xu Youyou, she was thrilled to receive praise from her young boss.
For Xu Youyou, the money didn’t matter much. She demanded compensation not just to vent her frustration but also as a test.
“Would you be interested in becoming my personal assistant? I’ll double your salary,” Xu Youyou asked.
She had asked Xie Ran to find a personal assistant for some time, but none of the candidates felt quite right.
Hearing “double salary,” Xu Fang’s eyes lit up with excitement. “I’d love to!”
“Great. From now on, you’ll be my personal assistant and driver. It’ll be busy, but the pay should be worth it,” Xu Youyou said with a smile.
Xu Fang was so happy that she would have given Xu Youyou her whole heart if she could. To her, Xu Youyou was the best boss in the world—someone who truly rewarded hard work!

Xu Youyou’s eyes sparkled with excitement. Compared to buying stolen artifacts at high prices, she preferred finding hidden treasures herself.
But after driving only a few hundred meters from the police station, they arrived at their destination.
Stepping out of the car, Xu Youyou looked up at the sign in confusion.
“A… flower and bird market?”
