Chapter 275: Action
Xu Youyou suppressed the urge to call Xie Ran for a moment, maintaining a cold expression as she spoke to the Gu siblings. “I don’t understand what you’re saying. Stop bothering me.”
Gu Xueying, however, sobbed, “Sister, as long as you let the Gu family go, I’ll do anything you want. I’ll never compete with you again.”
Xu Youyou furrowed her brow, sensing that Gu Xueying’s words carried hidden meaning, but she didn’t dwell on it and quickly left.
Once she was in a secluded area, Xu Youyou dialed Xie Ran’s number.
“Boss, we’re indeed targeting Xingzuan Group, but it’s not that we want to harm the Gu family. The Gu family’s short-sightedness has led them to try to use their daughter to gain wealth, but Xingzuan isn’t stupid,” Xie Ran explained.
“Did Xingzuan set a trap to harm the Gu family?” Xu Youyou asked.
Xie Ran responded, “Boss, if you say Xingzuan set a trap, that’s a bit too much. It’s just that according to Xingzuan’s usual way of doing things, when they select a company to cooperate with on a project, they keep the key details in their hands, while the partners take on more of the risk and investment.”
Xu Youyou didn’t quite understand. “Not many people are foolish enough to do business like that. Who would still want to cooperate with Xingzuan if their terms are so harsh?”
Xie Ran chuckled lightly. “Xingzuan is a large company. If one company doesn’t want to cooperate, there will always be others eager to join. In business, if you don’t move forward, you move backward. The bigger the business, the harder it is to turn things around.”
“The Gu family didn’t fully trust Xingzuan at first, but Xingzuan is extremely skilled at self-preservation, and the Gu family couldn’t see the tricks in their dealings. By the time the Gu family realized something was wrong, it was already too late.”
“Of course, if the project had gone well, the Gu family, as a smaller player, would have made a lot of money. But this time, they gambled and lost.”
Xu Youyou barely understood Xie Ran’s explanation. Although they were targeting Xingzuan, the Gu family had been closely tied to them, making them the first to fall.
“Alright, I understand. You’re doing a good job. Keep it up,” Xu Youyou said before hanging up.
She couldn’t help but feel a bit of joy at the thought of the Gu family’s downfall. The suffering they had caused her in her past life was something she would never forget, but she also hoped not to be consumed by hate in this life. So, she purposely ignored the resentment she felt toward the Gu family.
After receiving such good news, she was only happy for half an hour before her expression darkened again as she thought about how to get the treasure inside that little courtyard.
She thought back to the Gu siblings she had seen today. They had come and gone from the small courtyard at least five or six times in the past two days, indicating that their relationship with the “Queen” inside the courtyard was likely quite close.
Apart from the Gu siblings, she hadn’t seen anyone else special coming or going from the yard.
Was she really going to have to ask the Gu siblings about the situation inside? Xu Youyou didn’t want to lower herself to ask them, but she wasn’t sure what kind of price she’d have to pay to get information from them.
In the end, she reluctantly decided on a less dignified method. She instructed Xu Fang, “Send someone to keep an eye on the Gu siblings, preferably someone they haven’t seen before. If they can overhear or spot anything useful, that would be perfect.”
After thinking for a moment, Xu Fang assigned the task to a temporary bodyguard from the team. The temporary bodyguard had an unremarkable appearance—someone who would be easily forgotten in a crowd.
As for whether a typical Chinese appearance would stand out in a foreign country, Xu Fang wasn’t worried at all.
After all, in Pattaya, Chinese and Indian people made up the majority of the population, almost surpassing the locals. A plain-looking Chinese face wouldn’t draw any attention.
The temporary bodyguard followed the Gu siblings’ movements, and seeing how the other temporary employees had earned Xu Youyou’s approval with their various skills, he was eager to prove himself.
The Gu siblings, planning to plot against Xu Youyou, didn’t make any overt moves, but they didn’t stay at the hotel all day either. For lunch, they chose a nearby restaurant with good reviews.
After entering, they anxiously ordered a few dishes, and Gu Xueying took out a small makeup mirror, pretending to touch up her makeup. In reality, she was using the mirror to covertly observe the temporary bodyguard sitting behind them, who was facing away from them.
Gu Xueying subtly nodded toward her brother.
It was then that Gu Yujie spoke up. “The Queen’s price is too high, and her efficiency is too slow. I’m really worried our money will be wasted.”
Gu Xueying replied slowly, “Brother, we don’t have any other options. The Queen is the only one willing to take over our affairs. I’m hoping things can be resolved quickly, and that she can help pray for our father and avert disaster. Unfortunately, she has urgent matters to attend to tomorrow and won’t be in Pattaya all day.”
The siblings continued their conversation, but it seemed as if the food had lost its taste. After a few bites, they stood up and left.
The temporary bodyguard rushed back to Xu Youyou’s side and relayed every bit of information he overheard during the meal.
Xu Youyou couldn’t help but think deeply. The Queen would be leaving Pattaya, taking most of the security with her. This seemed like the perfect opportunity for her to break in.
Xu Youyou had no intention of visiting the Queen’s residence. After all, the cold reception she received in Bangkok was still fresh in her mind. After her encounter with the local warlord, it seemed like some kind of seal had been broken. Now, when she met someone, she almost felt like starting a fight first.
She could tell that the place was very sinister. No one knew exactly what was hidden in the courtyard, but it was likely similar to the house in Bangkok, where someone with a special constitution like Liu Xiangyi might be hiding.
After all, a courtyard where normal people lived wouldn’t have such extreme security.
Of course, if the situation with the Queen was different from Bangkok, Xu Youyou would apologize and do everything she could to compensate for any losses.
The next morning, Xu Youyou climbed up the high building across from the courtyard. Sure enough, five cars were parked outside, and people inside the courtyard were coming and going, packing their belongings. It seemed like they were preparing to leave.
After 8 a.m., a woman with a scarf covering her face tightly walked out of the courtyard and slowly got into one of the waiting cars.
Three minutes later, the car started, and because the Queen had taken many people with her, the originally heavily guarded house was now mostly empty.
Xu Youyou didn’t dare act immediately. She instructed her people to follow the convoy and make sure they were truly leaving Pattaya.
“Boss, they’ve definitely left the city. They’re driving fast, so it doesn’t look like they’re trying to mislead us,” the person tracking them reported.
This was Xu Youyou’s first time trying to break into someone’s house. Though she was anxious, the thought of someone possibly hiding in the courtyard waiting for her help steeled her resolve.
With a firm heart, she gave the order: “Action!”
