Chapter 274: Setting the Trap
Xu Youyou felt like Gu Xueying and Gu Yujing were haunting her.
She still didn’t know the methods of the person referred to as the “Queen of Heaven,” but seeing the Gu siblings again made her feel even more certain that this “Queen of Heaven” was probably not someone to be taken lightly.
Thinking back to their previous encounter in Jinling with Gu Yujing, when Gu Xueying had a miscarriage, and Gu Yujing had simply abandoned her, Xu Youyou couldn’t help but wonder if their relationship had improved now, or if they were simply back together. What about Chai Wei, whom she had seen with Gu Xueying in Europe—did Gu Yujing know about his sister’s connections there?
Xu Youyou watched through binoculars as the siblings knocked on the gate of the courtyard. The door was opened by a middle-aged man dressed in traditional Thai attire. After speaking with the Gu siblings, he invited them inside.
The two walked across the yard and entered the smallest of the low buildings in the center. After that, Xu Youyou could no longer see or hear what was happening inside.
Inside, the siblings sat on a mat, kneeling. In front of them was a curtain made of delicate jade beads, which separated them from the person behind it. Xu Youyou could only vaguely make out the silhouette of a woman.
“The child will return,” the woman’s voice suddenly rang out.
A glimmer of joy flashed on Gu Yujing’s face, while Gu Xueying’s expression paled.
“As long as you listen to me…” The woman’s voice rippled like waves, at times near, at times distant.
Gu Yujing immediately responded, “Don’t worry, I understand the rules. I even brought you a small gift this time.”
Gu Yujing placed a special box on the ground.
The person behind the curtain didn’t seem impressed by the gift. Instead, she asked a strange question: “Tell me, who has been interfering with you recently?”
Gu Yujing replied, “This person is my biological sister. Many years ago, she was swapped with Xueying. Our parents wanted to bring her back, but she refuses. Because of this, she harbors resentment toward us and often causes trouble.”
The woman remained unaffected by his words and responded, “Since your biological sister can cause you so much trouble, clearly her life isn’t bad.”
Gu Yujing gritted his teeth as he spoke, “I don’t know what tricks she used, but she managed to latch onto Lu Jingyao, and using the Lu family’s power, she has ruined many of our plans.”
“Don’t you know how she made her fortune?” the woman asked.
Gu Yujing furrowed his brow. The Gu family had already sent people to investigate Xu Youyou. However, Xu Youyou seemed to have appeared out of nowhere—like someone who suddenly won a lottery. Not only did she suddenly own a mansion in the prestigious Tang Chen Yi Pin, but everything about her was strange, and no one could make sense of her background.
After hearing Gu Yujing’s words, the person behind the curtain lightly parted her red lips: “Interesting.”
Even though Xu Youyou had no connection to Gu Xueying’s miscarriage in Jinling, Gu Yujing still blamed her for everything. It seemed that Xu Youyou’s mere presence there had become her original sin.
“I don’t want to see her again,” Gu Yujing declared.
The figure behind the curtain responded, “I’m very interested in her. If you send her to me, I’ll solve all your problems.”
Gu Yujing frowned. He thought to himself that if Xu Youyou were sent to them, why would they need her help? Didn’t he know how to deal with people himself?
The woman continued, “Including Lu Jingyao. I can also handle him for you. After all, you wouldn’t want to face his wrath.”
Gu Yujing paused and said, “I don’t know her whereabouts.”
The woman laughed. “The person we’re looking for is in this city.”
Gu Yujing was startled. “How could Xu Youyou be here?”
The woman didn’t answer. Instead, someone brought over a tablet, and the screen displayed a monitoring video—Xu Youyou, holding binoculars, was clearly seen hiding in a building across from the courtyard, spying on them.
“This mouse! How dare she come here, she won’t leave alive!” Gu Yujing said fiercely.
The woman behind the curtain chuckled lightly. “This is your biological sister. Aren’t you going to show her some mercy?”
Gu Yujing replied coldly, “I don’t have a sister who does things behind the family’s back.”
Gu Xueying remained silent. She should have been happy to hear that Xu Youyou was about to be eliminated, as Xu Youyou had always been like a knife hanging over her neck, waiting to strike at any moment, leaving her with no way out.
Now, watching Gu Yujing act without hesitation to kill Xu Youyou, Gu Xueying couldn’t help but feel a sense of sympathy for Xu Youyou. It felt as though the daughters of the Gu family were worth nothing.
“Don’t forget, you promised me something,” the woman behind the curtain said, cutting off the conversation.
After that, she stopped interacting with the Gu siblings, urging them to leave.
As they left the courtyard, Gu Xueying asked, “Brother, are you really going to kill Xu Youyou?”
Gu Yujing replied, “This bitch has ruined so many of our plans. She even caused the death of our child. How can you still want to forgive her?”
Gu Xueying gently shook her head and asked, “Even if she’s here, how do we capture her?”
Gu Yujing said, “It’s not difficult. Maybe we can even kill two birds with one stone.”
Xu Youyou had been observing the courtyard from the building across for two full days. From her vantage point, the courtyard was always heavily guarded, and she couldn’t find any opportunity to act.
However, she did encounter the Gu siblings at her hotel.
When the Gu siblings saw her, their expressions were as if they had seen a ghost.
Gu Yujing, whose mental state was always unstable, rushed toward Xu Youyou, shouting, “Xu Youyou, do you really want to wipe out our family?”
Xu Youyou was puzzled. “Stop acting crazy. Who has the time to deal with your family?”
Gu Yujing’s eyes reddened. “Your company is now working with the Lu family. You’re almost driving our Gu family into bankruptcy. Are you happy to see us on the streets?”
As Gu Yujing spoke, he shot a glance at Gu Xueying.
Even though Gu Xueying didn’t want to cooperate, she could only sob and say, “The Chai family has canceled the engagement, and the plan to marry Star Diamond has failed. Now, there’s no one who can save the Gu family. Sister, even if you hate us, you don’t need to go this far.”
Xu Youyou vaguely understood. It seemed that Xie Ran and Lu Jingyao were teaming up to target the Gu family. She hadn’t been keeping up with domestic affairs, but the last time she had contacted Xie Ran, he had only mentioned dealing with Star Diamond, without mentioning the Gu family. Had she missed something?
