Chapter 273: The Queen
Everyone’s face looked grim.
They initially thought Xu Youyou was being overly cautious with her distrust of the hotel food. But now, they were all convinced and relieved they had followed her instructions; otherwise, they’d all be lying in the hotel now.
They packed their bags quickly, but it was still slower than the speed at which the hotel door was opened.
A group of people wearing masks and baseball caps rushed in.
They had expected to see everyone in a weakened state but were surprised to find that only a third of Xu Youyou’s group had lost their combat effectiveness.
“Who are you, and what are you doing here?” Xu Fang questioned.
There were about ten or so people, and seeing the several tall men with Xu Youyou, they hesitated for a moment. One of them finally spoke in the local language: “We’ve got the wrong door. Sorry.”
The group left quickly, and once they were out of the room, the leader immediately took out his phone and made a call.
“Did your medicine have a problem?”
After a brief exchange on the phone, the person grunted and hung up harshly.
Xu Fang, still filled with unease, couldn’t help but speak to Xu Youyou: “Boss, this place is too chaotic. We should leave.”
In broad daylight, they had been able to barge into a hotel room, holding a hotel key card no less. With the security this disorganized, who would dare stay here any longer?
Xu Youyou’s expression also darkened. Even though she kept Qing Yatou’s words in mind, she was now considering giving up.
“I’m thinking of quitting the mission. Do you approve?” Xu Youyou asked the system.
System: [Host, are you sure you want to quit? The difficulty of this task is not too high, but it is extremely important for you. I advise you not to give up.]
Xu Youyou asked, “Can you tell me more information?”
The system was silent for a moment before replying: [Haven’t you already received some information from Qing Yatou?]
Xu Youyou did not immediately select the option to abandon the mission as the system suggested. Instead, she made another call to Qing Yatou.
“Yoyo, quitting doesn’t mean safety. Sometimes, quitting is a dangerous sign,” Qing Yatou said cryptically, as always.
Xu Youyou’s expression changed several times. She thought for a full ten minutes before speaking to Xu Fang: “Let’s check out. We’re leaving Bangkok today.”
She was increasingly sure that a pair of eyes were watching her in the dark. Though those eyes had great power in Bangkok, they didn’t control everything.
After all, they couldn’t possibly know which hotel she’d be staying at. Even if they did, it would take at least a night to set things up.
If that weren’t the case, she would have fallen into their trap last night at dinner, not this morning at breakfast.
She arranged for the seven affected people to be left in the hospital with a vehicle for transportation and a bodyguard to accompany them, as well as a few caretakers she had hired from a local hospital.
Once the car left Bangkok, they drove at high speed, and in less than two hours, they had arrived in the target city: Pattaya.
The system’s golden pointer directed her to a property in Pattaya.
This time, Xu Youyou had learned her lesson. Even though time was tight, she didn’t rush to knock on the door immediately. After confirming the location, she had Xu Fang investigate the specifics of the property.
She had booked two hotels this time, one being a local luxury hotel brand and the other an international chain.
She first checked into the local luxury hotel, pretending to bring some luggage inside. Then, she quickly left again and went to a high-rise building opposite the property.
“Does your good friend, who has been developing in Bangkok for so many years, have any connections in Pattaya? We can negotiate a good price,” Xu Youyou asked one of the bodyguards.
This bodyguard was the one who had introduced the gangsters earlier.
“Boss, he does know a few reliable people. If you need, I can contact them for you right now,” the bodyguard said.
Although their cooperation had been dangerous, the price Xu Youyou offered had been very satisfactory, so his friend was still eager to work with her, even though he knew they had provoked local warlords.
Xu Youyou was also generous. “Now is the time to use people. Whatever he can offer, we’ll take.”
After arranging a group of people, Xu Youyou turned her attention back to the yard.
Pattaya was a coastal city, but Xu Youyou felt the sea here wasn’t as clear as she had hoped. It wasn’t the alluring azure blue, but rather slightly yellowish.
The streets were filled with rough-looking people, and almost everyone she met had tattoos. This made her feel uneasy.
“Boss, I have some bad news.” Xu Fang rushed back.
Xu Youyou’s heart skipped a beat.
Xu Fang continued, “I asked a lot of people about that little courtyard. They all told me to stop asking, saying it’s very eerie inside.”
Xu Youyou felt something was off when she heard this.
“You know, this country has a lot of dark arts, and even the locals think that courtyard is cursed. It seems like something really isn’t right,” Xu Fang said.
Xu Fang didn’t understand why Xu Youyou was so interested in the courtyard or what her plans were, but she didn’t want her boss to get into danger.
Xu Youyou pondered for a moment, then picked up binoculars and took another look at the courtyard.
The courtyard had four low buildings arranged in an unusually strange pattern. Just one glance from her vantage point made Xu Youyou feel uncomfortable.
“Who is the owner of this courtyard?” Xu Youyou asked.
Xu Fang’s expression became somewhat strange as she replied, “I heard it’s a Chinese person…”
Xu Youyou furrowed her brows. “Do you have a photo of them?”
Xu Fang shook her head. “I spent a lot of money asking around. Most people, when they heard I was inquiring about that courtyard, ran off quickly. I only vaguely heard that many people call her the ‘Queen of Heaven.'”
Xu Youyou: ?
Xu Youyou couldn’t help but wonder—first the Red Dragon King, and now this “Queen of Heaven” character. What a juvenile title! Didn’t these people feel embarrassed calling someone that?
“The people here are tight-lipped. I couldn’t find out anything more,” Xu Fang said apologetically.
Xu Youyou shook her head. “If you couldn’t find out, then no one else could.”
Just as Xu Youyou was feeling helpless, she suddenly saw a car slowly driving toward the courtyard, stopping in front of the gate.
A man and a woman got out of the car. Xu Youyou felt their backs were strangely familiar.
She grabbed her binoculars and looked toward the courtyard, and just as she did, the man and woman turned around.
Xu Youyou’s heart skipped a beat. “Do these two have something to do with the Queen of Heaven?”
