Chapter 2: The Wealthy Family Reunion
Gu Fengchuan had been knocking on the door for a while, but he didn’t expect that the moment it opened, a broom would smack him right in the face.
Xu Youyou swung with full force, aiming squarely at Gu Fengchuan’s handsome face.
In her past life, Gu Fengchuan had leukemia, and she was the one who saved him through a successful bone marrow transplant. Her declining health was partly because of him.
After everything she gave—her bone marrow, her health—he repaid her kindness by kicking her out and having the security guards beat her. She would never forget that grudge.
“Are you insane?”
Gu Fengchuan, after being struck several times, finally managed to grab the broom.
Xu Youyou, delighted to see a few scratches on his face, feigned innocence. “Oops, turns out you’re not the drunkard upstairs. I thought it was that drunk trash harassing me again.”
Gu Fengchuan frowned. “Do I look like a drunk? Have you ever seen a drunk wearing a suit?”
Xu Youyou gave him a once-over. “Who are you? I don’t know you. Why are you knocking on my door? Wearing a suit in this heat—either you’re an idiot or selling insurance. I don’t need insurance. Bye.”
She snatched the broom back and slammed the door shut, nearly hitting Gu Fengchuan’s nose.
Frustrated, Gu Fengchuan knocked again, calling out, “Xu Youyou, I’m here for something important. I’m not selling insurance. I know who you are—you’re from the orphanage…”
Behind the door, Xu Youyou’s eyes narrowed as she heard his words. Moments later, she opened the door again and swung the broom at him.
“How dare you mock me! Yes, I’m an orphan—dead parents, dead family! Who gave you the right to laugh at me?!”
After a few more hits, Gu Fengchuan managed to grab the broom again. “What’s wrong with you?! I’m here to talk business!”
Xu Youyou turned to go inside, and when Gu Fengchuan tried to block the door, she slammed it shut—right on his fingers.
“Ah!”
Gu Fengchuan let out a pained yell, completely losing his usual composed demeanor.
Xu Youyou crossed her arms and glared. “I didn’t invite you in—why are you forcing your way inside? Trying to scam me? Go ahead, call the cops—I’m not afraid!”
Suppressing his irritation, Gu Fengchuan said, “You might be the biological daughter of the Gu family. I’m your older brother, Gu Fengchuan. Our father is Gu Jianming—you can search his name online.”
He expected her to verify the information. Instead, Xu Youyou disappeared inside and returned with another broom, whacking him again.
“Can’t sell insurance, so now you’re scamming? I’ll beat you to death, you fraud!”
With the broom still swinging, Gu Fengchuan turned and bolted downstairs like he was being chased by a ghost.
Ten minutes later, he returned—with the landlord.
“Youyou, open up—it’s Auntie Wang,” the landlord called out.
When Xu Youyou opened the door, she eyed Gu Fengchuan suspiciously.
Auntie Wang smiled. “Youyou, I looked him up online. This young man is the general manager of Gu Group. You were switched at birth in the hospital—this is your chance to become a rich lady!”
Xu Youyou remained skeptical. “How rich?”
Gu Fengchuan’s lips curled in disdain. Of course, an orphan would only care about money.
“Our father’s net worth exceeds fifty billion. The Gu family is one of the wealthiest in Hu City. Once you return home, you’ll never have to live in a place like this again,” he declared proudly.
Xu Youyou gave him a disdainful look. “A wealthy family reunion? Fifty billion? When I visit neighbors, I at least bring apples. You came empty-handed?”
Auntie Wang nodded approvingly. “Young man, that’s not proper. Visiting family requires gifts. Your family’s so rich—why not write your sister a check?”
She even winked at Xu Youyou.
Irritated, Gu Fengchuan restrained himself and said, “We need to conduct a paternity test first.”
Xu Youyou snorted. “See? He’s bluffing—broke as hell.”
Auntie Wang nodded firmly. “All talk, no money.”
Despite knowing they were trying to provoke him, Gu Fengchuan couldn’t hold back any longer. Given how much Xu Youyou resembled their grandmother, the Gu family was already convinced of her identity. The paternity test was just a formality.
He pulled out his checkbook and, with visible frustration, scribbled down an amount. “Isn’t it money you want?” He tossed the check at her.
Xu Youyou picked it up, glanced at it, and scoffed. “Fifty billion in assets, and you’re handing me a million? What am I, a beggar? I expected more.”
His expression grew cold. “How much do you want?”
“A billion. Show me your real power.”
Gu Fengchuan’s gaze sharpened dangerously. “You’re insane.”
“If you’re so rich, you can’t spare a fifth of your wealth for your long-lost sister? Doesn’t seem like you care about me.”
“Most of the family’s wealth is tied up in assets—not liquid cash,” he retorted.
Xu Youyou shrugged. “Fine—ten luxury villas in the city center. I’m not picky.”
Clenching his fists, Gu Fengchuan tried to stay calm. “Those properties are in our parents’ names. But once you return, our family will protect you—no more struggling.”
Hearing those words reignited her fury. In her past life, she believed their lies—that returning to the Gu family meant she’d finally have a home. Instead, they turned their backs on her, leaving her to die in the snow.
She crumpled the check and threw it back at him.
“No houses, just pocket change—you call this a wealthy family reunion? Get lost!”
Gu Fengchuan snapped, “Can’t you be a little more ladylike?!”
Grabbing the broom, Xu Youyou charged again. “I’m just an orphan—what are you gonna do about it? Scram!
