Chapter 141: Little Fool
Xu Fang fumbled as she took the bracelet box, then draped her coat over Xu Youyou’s shoulders, saying, “Boss, the wind is strong outside today. You shouldn’t catch a cold.”
Xu Youyou casually put on the coat, and once again thought to herself that her subordinates were definitely more considerate than her parents. They cared more about pleasing the employer than anyone else.
Xu Fang recognized the Cartier box, and her heart leapt with excitement. She thought to herself, when you’re good to a man, he’ll treat you like a servant, but when you’re good to your boss, she really remembers you!
Xu Youyou wasn’t concerned about whether to keep or sell the gift that was tossed her way. Although Xu Fang also liked pretty jewelry, she was more focused on saving up for a house in Hu City and had already decided to send the item to a second-hand luxury store once her vacation came.
Back in the small reception room, Xie Ran and He Zhi Ting were still in conversation.
“Can you endure hardship?” Xie Ran asked.
He Zhi Ting lightly shook his head. “I’ve never experienced it, so I don’t know.”
Xie Ran paused for a moment, just as Xu Youyou walked in.
“Can’t endure hardship, can’t sing, can’t dance, but she has a face that’s somewhat likable,” Xie Ran said thoughtfully.
Xu Youyou raised an eyebrow and asked He Zhi Ting, “Didn’t your family let you learn any talents when you were younger? Dance? Drawing? Piano?”
He Zhi Ting’s face flushed with embarrassment. “I couldn’t endure hardship. I cried a little, and my family told me to stop learning.”
Xu Youyou widened her eyes, finally understanding why Xie Ran had looked so strange earlier.
“So what about the skills passed down in your family? You didn’t need to learn them either?” Xu Youyou asked.
He Zhi Ting replied, “I have two older sisters. They’re both quite talented. I couldn’t learn it, so my family said it was fine.”
“What about studying?” Xu Youyou continued.
He Zhi Ting straightened up proudly. “Although my parents let me study whatever I wanted, I still worked hard. I got into a good third-tier university!”
Xu Youyou couldn’t help but think, with a capital city household, is it really that difficult to get into a third-tier university?
But she was also curious. “Why didn’t your family send you abroad?”
He Zhi Ting wrinkled her nose and said with disdain, “The food abroad is terrible. I couldn’t stay there.”
Xu Youyou sighed inwardly. She was truly born with the life of a young lady. She had never experienced hardship in her life. The worst thing she’d probably suffered was serving tea and water at some event.
“Why did your family send you to serve at the exchange event? Aren’t they especially indulgent toward you?” Xu Youyou asked.
He Zhi Ting said helplessly, “None of my cousins wanted to go. My two older sisters had already gone to the last couple of exchange events, so it was my turn. Besides, they gave me compensation…”
Xu Youyou asked, “What compensation? Money?”
He Zhi Ting replied, “A McLaren Senna. I’ve wanted it for a long time. If I hadn’t had to endure hardship, they wouldn’t have bought it for me.”
Xu Youyou couldn’t help but think, if serving tea and water could earn you a two-million-yuan car, the He family really spoiled He Zhi Ting. But now, with such a young lady who had nothing but her looks, Xu Youyou wasn’t sure how to manage her future.
But Xie Ran had figured it out in no time and said, “Actually, it’s not that difficult. Your initial idea was correct. She can indeed use her round face for a unique spot in the entertainment industry. Since she can’t endure hardship, I’ll try to avoid scripts that require high demands.”
Xu Youyou asked, “Doesn’t that mean her future won’t be as good as others’?”
Xie Ran said, “She doesn’t want to endure hardship, but still wants a bright future—how can things always go that smoothly? She can play roles that are very similar to her, like in idol dramas. Ancient idol dramas require headpieces and are more physically demanding, so I’d suggest she stick to modern idol dramas.”
“Later, I’ll create another ‘young lady’ persona for her, have someone film her daily vlogs, and that will attract a fixed fanbase. She may not become hugely popular, but reaching the third-tier shouldn’t be a problem.”
He Zhi Ting immediately said, “This sounds good! I really don’t want to work hard! I was tortured just serving tea and water once. Being a star is way more comfortable.”
Xie Ran’s eyelids twitched at that comment but he only replied, “I know you’re a young lady, but don’t say things like that in public.”
He Zhi Ting asked, “What kind of things?”
Xie Ran said, “For example, saying acting is a high-risk career or that your work is hard. You can be a young lady in the entertainment industry, but don’t be the kind of young lady everyone finds annoying.”
He Zhi Ting nodded vigorously and said, “I got it! I know I’m lucky, so I won’t complain to others.”
Xie Ran had almost finished his work in the capital, and with He Zhi Ting and Aunt Li’s matters, he quickly gave a few instructions before rushing off. Whether it was hiring self-media staff or finding an assistant for He Zhi Ting, he wanted to personally interview them.
Once the artist contract was signed, Xu Youyou saw a system notification appear. He Zhi Ting had also picked up a leak, but her reward was ten training hours. Xu Youyou secretly glanced at He Zhi Ting with some disdain—limited-type artists didn’t seem very valuable.
[Host, the leak-picking task has started. Please arrive at the target location as soon as possible.]
Xu Youyou’s eyelids twitched when she saw the notification appear in front of her. She waved to He Zhi Ting and immediately stood up, instructing Xu Fang, “Get ready to go.”
Xu Fang and the bodyguards quickly began preparing, and He Zhi Ting, seeing the house emptying out, suddenly lost interest in playing with the cats. As the idle young lady, she stood up and said, “Sister Youyou, where are you going? I want to go out and play too!”
Xu Youyou didn’t like bringing outsiders along when she was picking up leaks, so she casually replied, “We’re driving a couple of hours to the countryside. Do you want to come?”
He Zhi Ting immediately flopped back onto the sofa, hugging the cat and looking serene. “The cats need me, and I need the cats. Have a safe trip.”
After leaving the villa area, Xu Youyou gave her usual instructions to Xu Fang, just like she had done countless times before.
“Go straight.”
“Turn left at the traffic light.”
“Take the second exit from the roundabout.”
Xu Youyou had only mentioned the countryside as a passing remark to He Zhi Ting, but to her surprise, the car really drove for over two hours, leaving the capital and heading into increasingly remote areas. Soon, the surroundings became farmland, and they had truly arrived in the countryside.
Though Xu Fang was unsure about the situation, she stayed calm and drove carefully, seeing that Xu Youyou seemed perfectly normal.
As the evening wore on and the fuel gauge showed an urgent warning, the car finally stopped in front of a factory.
With the dim streetlights, Xu Youyou barely made out the sign on the factory: “XX County Little Fool Electric Vehicle Factory.”
Inside the factory, the manager and the director sat across from each other in an office, both wearing long faces.
“It’s over, it’s all over. How did we miss such important news in the beginning?”
“All these vehicles are ruined… The factory can’t keep running… We can’t even pay the workers…” The director’s voice choked with emotion.
