Chapter 240: Hunting Time
The hunt had begun.
From her high vantage point, Fang Xiaocao watched as Taotie—with a savage grin—snapped the neck of Nemesis’ lookout.
Her gaze shifted to the other side, where Tom emerged from the shadows, elegantly slitting the throat of an unsuspecting enemy who had stepped out to relieve himself.
Two down.
Now it was three versus nineteen.
Fang Xiaocao scanned the darkness, searching for Hummingbird.
She worried the girl might foolishly charge into the enemy crowd.
After all, Nemesis had regrouped—no more stragglers to pick off.
Hummingbird would have to wait.
But Fang Xiaocao wasn’t anxious.
As long as Tom and Taotie kept hunting, Han Xue wouldn’t escape.
True to her expectations, Tom and Taotie remained hidden in nearby trees, biding their time.
Nemesis was resting now, but they’d move soon—and that would be the real hunt.
Ten minutes later, Nemesis stirred.
They rose and vanished into the dense forest, advancing toward Ragnarok’s position.
Fang Xiaocao smirked.
“Enjoy being hunted.”
As Nemesis moved, Tom and Taotie exchanged a glance and sprang into action.
Tom darted ahead, targeting the scouts at the front.
Taotie lingered at the rear, waiting to pick off stragglers.
Opportunity came swiftly.
Nemesis’ scouts raced ahead, outpacing their group by a hundred meters in moments.
Fang Xiaocao almost laughed.
“Rushing to their graves?”
Like a panther, Tom pounced.
Blood sprayed.
His black dagger claimed the first scout’s life.
“Who’s there?!”
The remaining three scouts whirled, but Tom was already upon them.
“Your executioner.”
A flash of steel—
Thunk.
A second corpse collapsed, throat pierced.
Tom kicked the body aside and lunged at the last two.
Two more slashes—
Clean. Efficient.
Before they could even react, their heads toppled.
“Damn…”
Fang Xiaocao mentally applauded.
Four kills in seconds.
Flawless.
Her attention snapped to the rear.
Taotie was poised to strike.
Four Nemesis members guarded the back.
Once they fell, only eleven would remain.
Then, Tom and Taotie would unleash hell.
Fang Xiaocao’s lips curled.
“Han Xue… your time’s up.”
Taotie hefted his machete, grinning as the rear guards drifted further from the group.
Ten meters.
Now.
He stepped forward—
Whoosh!
A shadow blurred past.
Slash! Slash!
Two heads flew.
Before the remaining two could process it, the blade struck again.
Two more.
Fang Xiaocao blinked.
The one stealing Taotie’s kills?
Hummingbird.
“Hey! Those were mine!” Taotie roared.
“First come, first served,” Hummingbird replied coolly.
Tom arrived just as the two glared at each other.
“What’s the issue?”
“She stole my kills!”
Tom rolled his eyes.
“That’s it?”
“Grow up.”
Taotie: “Uuu…” (Translation: I’m being bullied.)
“Eleven left. We go loud.”
“Hummingbird—your only target is the flashy woman. The Princess wants her dead.”
“Fail, and you answer to her.”
Hummingbird nodded.
“Taotie, we handle the rest.”
“Problem?”
“Pfft. I’ll take extra if you can’t keep up.”
Tom ignored him.
“Move.”
Daggers drawn, they advanced.
As they closed in, Tom pulled out two Poké Balls, activated them, and hurled them into Nemesis’ midst.
BOOM!
Two more enemies vaporized.
Nine left (excluding Han Xue).
“AMBUSH!”
“FIGHT BACK!”
Han Xue, coughing from the blast, scrambled up—
And froze.
Tom. Taotie. Hummingbird.
Coming straight for her.
She ran.
Hummingbird gave chase.
