Chapter 150: Intense Crossfire
After successfully rushing past the entrance hallway, Luo Fei raised his gun. However, unsure if Axi was dead or alive, he hesitated to pull the trigger. Instead, he kept his head down and sprinted toward the large bed, which had been riddled with bullets, its springs now protruding chaotically.
As soon as he saw the muzzle flash from ahead, Luo Fei reacted instinctively. With a textbook tactical roll, he dodged to the side, diving behind the bed amidst the deafening gunfire.
Despite his quick reflexes, Luo Fei was no longer young. His slightly bulky frame and aging physique couldn’t quite keep up with his once-agile reactions.
He had been shot!
One bullet grazed his leg.
Another one hit him…
Right in the butt!
A humiliating spot to be shot.
Axi had landed that shot while Luo Fei was mid-roll. His marksmanship was truly terrifying. Three shots, two hits—only missing one.
Had his gun not run out of bullets, Luo Fei might not have made it behind the bed at all.
“He’s reloading!” Luo Fei yelled, clutching his wounded backside.
At the same time, he attempted to climb over the bed to engage Axi in close combat. But the pain in his lower body made his entire leg go numb. Luo Fei could barely move, let alone get up. All he could do was raise his gun over the bed and fire wildly toward Axi’s direction, suppressing him with covering fire.
Hearing Luo Fei’s warning, the second assault officer sprang into action. Holding his pistol firmly in both hands, he charged into Room 512.
Click-click…
Luo Fei emptied his magazine in mere seconds.
The sound of a dry firing pin echoed in the tense silence.
Axi seized the opportunity. He sprang up, his freshly reloaded gun in hand, aiming straight at the doorway where the second assault officer was rushing in. His expression was twisted with madness as his finger tightened on the trigger.
BANG!
A single gunshot rang out.
Blood sprayed as Axi’s gun-wielding hand was struck.
Seeing Axi rise and take aim, the second assault officer immediately dodged to the side. Axi’s gun muzzle followed him like a shadow.
But what Axi failed to notice was the third assault officer, who had been lying in wait behind them. His gun had been locked onto Axi’s position the entire time.
The moment Axi’s focus shifted toward the second officer, his aim slightly off, the third assault officer took the shot.
A flash of fire.
A bullet struck Axi’s hand, the one holding the gun, knocking the weapon to the ground.
Axi’s eyes widened in shock. He clutched his bleeding hand and instinctively bent down to retrieve his gun.
“He’s been hit! I knocked his gun away!” the third officer shouted.
Upon hearing this, the second assault officer wasted no time. He charged forward, diving behind the bed.
Gunfights in such a small space were a disadvantage.
Hiding behind the bed, Axi had the upper hand.
Close-quarters combat was the only way.
Seeing his teammate charge forward, Luo Fei gritted his teeth.
With both hands, he pushed himself off the ground, rolling onto the bed with the same goal in mind—to engage Axi in close combat, despite his injuries.
“Surrender!” the second officer roared as he lunged over the bed.
Luo Fei tumbled off the other side, clawing at the carpet as he dragged himself toward Axi.
Seeing this, the third assault officer also rushed into Room 512, charging toward the back of the bed.
BANG!
A gunshot echoed.
Ugh…
A pained grunt followed from behind the bed.
In the scuffle, Axi’s gun had gone off.
And someone had been shot!
“Quick! Grab him!” Luo Fei rasped.
“Damn it! Let me go!” Axi roared furiously.
Click!
A metallic snap echoed.
Luo Fei had grabbed Axi’s ankle with one hand while retrieving his handcuffs with the other, snapping them around both of Axi’s legs.
Axi’s small stature had been both his greatest weapon and his downfall.
His diminutive frame made him agile in combat, allowing him to weave through chaos.
But against three full-grown criminal investigators?
He didn’t stand a chance.
Because of his child-like size, the standard handcuffs fit perfectly around his ankles, restricting his movement completely.
With that final effort, Luo Fei collapsed against the bed, panting heavily. The carpet beneath him was soaked in blood.
Axi, too, lay in a pool of crimson, though it was unclear whose blood it was.
Click!
Another metallic snap.
The third assault officer pressed Axi down, pinning him beneath his weight, and secured his wrists with handcuffs.
A notorious serial killer had finally been captured!
This time, Axi had no way to escape.
“Huff… huff…”
With Axi subdued, everyone let out a sigh of relief, gasping for air. The battle had drained them of all energy.
“You bastards! Let me go! Fight me one-on-one if you dare!” Axi thrashed and screamed, his voice filled with rage.
But it was useless.
He lay sprawled on the ground, his arms shackled behind his back, his legs bound as well.
He had no way out.
“Call an ambulance!” Luo Fei gasped. “I’ve been shot too…”
Hearing this, the third assault officer’s heart sank. He turned to look at Luo Fei.
His face was deathly pale.
Sweat poured from his forehead.
A massive pool of blood had spread beneath him.
Fear gripped the third officer.
They had suffered heavy losses today.
First, Wang Qiang had been stabbed by an assassin and rushed to the hospital.
Now, both their captain and vice-captain had sustained gunshot wounds—severe ones.
“Check on Xiao Qiang—he’s been shot too…” Luo Fei muttered weakly, gesturing toward the second assault officer, who was still pinning Axi down.
The third officer turned his gaze and his heart clenched.
Xiao Qiang’s breathing was shallow.
His abdomen was soaked in blood.
“Xiao Qiang!”
The third officer yelled in panic.
“Call an ambulance!” Luo Fei urged in a faint voice.
At the same time, he sighed inwardly. Young officers these days… They panic too easily. All they do is shout. No real action…
Finally snapping out of his daze, the third officer scrambled for his phone and dialed emergency services.
After hanging up, he grabbed his radio and called for backup.
Luo Fei watched as he carried out the procedures, his mind finally at ease.
Then, everything went dark.
He had lost consciousness.
