Chapter 90: Anticipation — The Hungry Wolf Breaking Free from Its Cage
Nan Xun was awakened by Li Chen’s kisses. They were so overwhelming, it would’ve been strange not to wake up.
Seeing that she was awake, Li Chen released her lips and let out a low chuckle. “Baby, it’s getting late. Time to go home.”
Nan Xun rubbed her eyes, almost forgetting where she was. The man scooped her up in his arms, carried her straight out of the little grove, and then settled her onto the back seat of the bicycle.
Li Chen pedaled steadily, carrying his girl out of the campus and riding all the way toward the Li family villa.
The distance was quite long, and as they rode, the sky gradually darkened.
“Daddy, the stars are out. They’re so bright,” Nan Xun said, gazing up at the night sky and pointing at the stars as they slowly revealed themselves, dazzling and beautiful.
“Baby, don’t move around. If you want to watch the stars, we’ll go up to the rooftop after we get home.”
Nan Xun answered with an “oh,” obediently sat still, and began humming a tune. “Fa fei wa, fa wa fei wa…”
She’d said she wanted to watch the stars, but once they got home, she completely forgot about it. After dinner, she sat in the main hall with Old Master Li, watching a palace intrigue drama.
“Grandpa, you actually guessed right! That Noble Consort Xue didn’t die, and now she’s starting to tear into Consort Li. The female lead’s halo is kicking in!” Nan Xun said excitedly.
Old Master Li chuckled. “Just watch. This is only the beginning. The next few dozen episodes will be packed with schemes and plots one after another.”
Li Chen watched the grandfather and granddaughter enthusiastically discussing the show, his face darkening, a sudden urge rising in him to smash that massive crystal TV.
Later, after Nan Xun went off to sleep on her own, Old Master Li called Li Chen over for a talk.
As soon as the door closed, Old Master Li hurled the inkstone from the desk at him.
Li Chen tilted his head slightly, dodging it with ease, and frowned. “What are you doing?”
Old Master Li was furious. “I told you to restrain yourself, to restrain yourself! Did you take my words as a breeze past your ears? Look at Nan Nan’s little mouth—it’s practically swollen into a sausage! Are you afraid people won’t know she has a perverted father or what?!”
Li Chen was unmoved. “You should be thankful you gave birth to a son with extremely strong self-control. Otherwise, Nan Nan wouldn’t just have a swollen mouth right now.”
Old Master Li was seething inside. What made it worse was that he simply couldn’t do anything about Li Chen anymore.
All of the Li family’s wealth and power—both overt and covert—were already firmly in Li Chen’s grasp. He used to enjoy the leisure of stepping back, but now he desperately wanted to reclaim authority just so he could properly beat some sense into this brat.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t take it back even if he wanted to.
—
Everyone in the Li Group knew that they had an exceptionally young chairman—handsomer than a movie star, with outstanding work ability. However, the chairman always left work on time. A few days ago, he even started leaving early, and recently he vanished altogether. Rumor had it he’d taken a very long vacation.
Li Chen had indeed taken a long vacation. His baby had finished the college entrance exam and was on summer break, and she’d even chosen to apply to the nearest university, B University. As a reward, he naturally had to make time to take his baby on a proper graduation trip.
Back then, when the teachers learned that Nan Xun wanted to apply to B University, they were anxious and upset. With her grades, she could easily apply to the nation’s top T University. Even if she wanted to stay in the city, there was also the second-ranked A University. But Nan Xun stubbornly insisted. Because of this, the teachers even invited her guardian to the school.
When they saw the young Li Chen, they assumed he was just her older brother. Li Chen didn’t deny it and simply said, “I respect any decision Nan Nan makes. Everyone in the family feels the same.”
The teachers couldn’t persuade them and felt deeply regretful.
That summer vacation, Nan Xun and Li Chen played wildly. Li Chen was naturally a cold person, but almost all the tenderness of his lifetime was given to Li Xiaonan. If Li Xiaonan wanted to go wild, he would go wild with her.
When they returned from traveling, Nan Xun flopped onto the bed and happily rolled around.
The Void Beast, silent for a long time, suddenly spoke up. “Dear, did you have fun?”
Nan Xun quickly replied that she had—very much so.
“Li Chen Daddy’s malice value is down to just 20 points now. Are you really not considering throwing away your integrity right away? Who knows—maybe once you do, the malice value will instantly drop to zero. If you complete the mission early, you can make two requests in the next world~”
Unmoved by the sugar-coated temptation, Nan Xun said firmly, “Sure, in ancient times a girl was considered an adult at fifteen, but is the modern world the same? I’m definitely waiting until I’m an adult before losing my integrity.”
The Void Beast snorted. “Old-fashioned.”
Nan Xun shot back immediately, “If you’re not old-fashioned, then why don’t you go do it with Li Chen?”
Void Beast: …
Nan Xun’s college life began soon after. But college didn’t feel much different from high school—because it was close to home, she could go back every day. At night, she’d lie under the same blanket with Li Chen, chatting, then end the day with a mouth-to-mouth goodnight kiss.
Every morning, Nan Xun would see Li Chen go into the bathroom and stay there alone for a long time. One day she sensed something was off and knocked on the door. In response, she heard Li Chen’s deep, hoarse, seductive voice say, “…Baby, I’m fine.”
Hearing that voice, Nan Xun was so startled she never dared knock again.
The Void Beast suddenly let out a strange laugh. “Dear, I’m suddenly really looking forward to it.”
Nan Xun was confused. “Little Eight, what are you looking forward to?”
The Void Beast replied brutally and bloodthirstily, “I’m looking forward to the day the hungry wolf breaks free from its cage and ravenously tears into its prey. Sigh, just imagining it is so violent. But don’t worry—I’ll automatically block the five senses then, especially sight and hearing.”
Nan Xun increasingly wanted to mash Little Eight into a meat patty.
Since Nan Xun’s life revolved almost entirely around Li Chen, even though she had been assigned a dorm room at university, she never stayed overnight and always went home on time. Her roommates often teased her for it, saying she was a child who hadn’t grown up.
But Li Xiaonan had skipped two grades and was indeed two years younger than them, so everyone took good care of her.
At noon, Nan Xun would take a short nap in the dorm. That day, no one was sleeping, and they started chatting.
Somehow, the topic shifted to Li Xiaonan.
“Nan Nan, are you really not considering the top heartthrob from the neighboring department, Ji?” one girl suddenly asked.
Nan Xun paused. “You mean Ji Shaoqing?”
Another girl grinned. “I heard Ji Shaoqing was your high school classmate and has been chasing you since high school?”
Nan Xun honestly hadn’t expected Ji Shaoqing to apply to this university too. Back then, because Li Chen’s “family discipline” was too strict, she later sought Ji Shaoqing out and clearly rejected him.
She was sure that any boy with self-respect wouldn’t keep being one-sided after hearing what she said.
Ji Shaoqing had always thought she would apply to A University, so when he later saw her at B University, he was shocked.
At the time, he’d even said, “Nan Nan, you must have feelings for me. Otherwise, why would you apply to this university?”
So damn narcissistic.
