Chapter 67: Dead and Done—The Divide Between Humans and Ghosts
“Holy crap, Little Eight—did the Ghost Lord get some kind of stimulation? How is he thinking about making pancakes in broad daylight?” Nan Xun exclaimed in shock.
Little Eight coughed lightly. “I suddenly remembered—although the Ghost Lord didn’t follow you, all the little ghosts within several hundred li are under his command. Whatever you did, the little ghosts must have reported it to him long ago.”
Nan Xun: “……”
So terrifying after the fact. If she had brought back those talismans and the peach-heart powder, would she have been greeted by the furious wrath of the ferocious ghost boss?
Maybe, in a fit of rage, he would have just eaten her—literally eaten her.
This time, Fu Yu made pancakes with great enthusiasm, and Nan Xun experienced firsthand the feeling of her soul almost leaving her body.
From that day on, after having tasted real meat, a certain ghost became completely uncontrollable. This ghost bullied her outrageously—whenever he caught the chance, he would pin Nan Xun down and make pancakes.
This ghost was also widely read and well-versed in all sorts of techniques—eighty-one in total. He used seven different ones every day, never repeating.
Nearly a month passed like this, and one day Nan Xun suddenly jumped in fright while looking in the mirror.
“Holy crap, who’s that in the mirror? Why does my complexion look as pale as a ghost’s?”
Void Beast said, “Humans and ghosts walk different paths. Do you think that’s just something casually written in storybooks? You’ve been shamelessly ‘this and that’ with a ghost—and a ferocious one at that—every single day. The yang energy in your body is almost completely drained by him. But luckily, the malice value is down to the final 1 point.”
Nan Xun stared at the paper-white face in the mirror and suddenly asked, “Does Fu Yu know about this?”
Void Beast replied, “By logic, he should know. But fortunately, this divine beast is smart—I used an illusion early on. In his eyes, you still look rosy and healthy. He probably forgot for the moment that ghosts absorb yang energy.”
Nan Xun’s mouth twitched. She reached up and touched her face. “After this mission is completed, how long is my remaining time?”
Void Beast said, “The last world’s remaining time was too long, and this world also dragged on for several years due to my mistake. So once we complete the mission, we have to leave as soon as possible.”
Nan Xun gave an “oh,” then started putting on makeup in front of the mirror, adding a bit of color back to her deathly pale face.
Void Beast was puzzled. “What are you doing? Fu Yu can’t tell that your face is pale.”
“I want to take Fu Yu on one last date.”
That day, Fu Yu was over the moon. Mo-mo had actually asked him out again.
One human and one ghost went to ride the roller coaster and the space shuttle ride, screaming all the way. In the evening, they watched a movie together. Nan Xun cried loudly along with everyone else in the theater, and Fu Yu, a little helpless, patted the head of his beloved girl, silently comforting her.
When they returned to the mansion and the door had just opened, Nan Xun suddenly burned with an unusual heat. She sprang upward and clung to the Ghost Lord like an octopus, grabbing his head and kissing him fiercely.
Nan Xun’s passion nearly overwhelmed Fu Yu. Holding her, he carried her all the way into their love nest.
Thunder from the heavens met fire from the earth—so intense, so fierce, the bed nearly fell apart.
At a certain moment, the Void Beast’s voice suddenly sounded. “Darling, just to say this in advance—I’ve already blocked the five senses. I can’t hear or see anything. I’m just here to pass along a message. The ferocious ghost boss’s malice value has been completely cleared. Mission complete! You now have one hour of remaining time. Once the hour is up, we’re leaving immediately.”
Nan Xun was in the middle of wrestling demons with the Ghost Lord, right at the most critical point. Hearing this, she almost tumbled straight down from the clouds.
Nan Xun hugged Fu Yu tighter and became even more passionate. The demon wrestling grew more intense and spectacular than before, with all kinds of moves taking turns on stage.
Only after she’d exhausted herself into a limp puddle did Nan Xun curl up in Fu Yu’s arms. She rubbed her head against his chin and said tiredly, “Fu Yu, I’m sleepy. I want to sleep for a while.”
Fu Yu’s eyes were brimming with tenderness. He smiled, lowered his head, and kissed her forehead. “Alright. I’ll sleep with you.”
Ghosts don’t need sleep, but at that moment, he wrapped both arms around Nan Xun, rested his chin against her head, and closed his eyes along with her.
The instant he closed his eyes, Nan Xun’s soul was pulled out of her body by Little Eight.
She looked at herself in the man’s arms—her complexion even paler than his, her whole body steeped in lifelessness. She looked a bit ugly, but there was a sense of peace about her.
“Alright, stop looking. Let’s go,” the Void Beast’s voice suddenly rang out in her mind.
Nan Xun sighed and asked, “When Fu Yu wakes up and sees that I’ve lost my breath—dead from having all my yang energy drained by him—will he collapse and want to die?”
Void Beast chuckled. “You’re joking, right? Someone who’s already died once—how could he die again? Besides, you’re overthinking it. Back when he hadn’t gotten you yet, didn’t he want to kill you and refine you into a puppet to keep him company? Now that wish has basically come true.”
Nan Xun said, “Oh… then let’s go.”
Nan Xun’s soul slowly began to twist, on the verge of leaving this world. At that moment, the Ghost Lord, eyes closed, suddenly sensed something and snapped his eyes open. Those black eyes turned blood-red in an instant, murderous aura overflowing as he stared straight in her direction.
But in the blink of an eye, his eyes returned to normal. The man looked dazed for a moment, then tightened his hold on the person in his arms, closed his eyes again, and slept peacefully.
Nan Xun was startled. Before she could think further, everything went black before her eyes, and she left that world.
When she opened her eyes again, Nan Xun’s head felt a little muddled. Had that been her imagination just now? Why did she feel like she’d seen a pair of blood-colored pupils?
However, she soon had no time to think about anything else, because she realized she was being held in someone’s arms.
The person holding her was gripping her too tightly, and the posture was wrong, making it hard for her to breathe.
Nan Xun struggled to tilt her head back and peek up. Holy crap—a huge face was looming right in front of her. Startled, she lifted her arm and slapped that big face.
Smack.
The sound was small, crisp.
Nan Xun was a little dazed.
She raised her hand and stared at it for a long time—chubby, small, fair and tender.
Nan Xun’s face instantly darkened. She hurriedly called out to the Void Beast in her mind, “Little Eight, shouldn’t you explain what’s going on?”
The Void Beast said cheerfully, “Wasn’t I just satisfying your request? You said you wanted an identity born into wealth, and you also wanted a blood relationship with the target. Well—this is it. Your dad is Li Chen, and his family is ridiculously rich. Really. The ancestors were originally in the underworld, then got cleaned up in your grandpa’s generation and founded the badass Li Group—real estate, entertainment, food and beverage, transportation, all sorts of industries. Insanely powerful. You’ll be living the high life from now on.”
Nan Xun asked, “The target is…”
Void Beast replied, “Your dad. And he’s really handsome!”
